Electronically traversing the new era of female submission wrestling around the globe, among many, there are two prominent trends that have emerged in the last 10 years.
Top female wrestlers are participating in more MMA training.
Women submission wrestlers are heavily hitting the gym and displaying the fitness and body builder look.
In terms of the latter trend, there have been question marks raised as to whether body building enhances or distorts feminine beauty?
As with anything, Femcompetitor’s thoughts are, find a way to be balanced.
The trend from weight training to serious weight lifting are not just affecting our industry, but the world as a whole.
As recent as the 1970s it was so unusual for women to be in the weight room that the major daily newspapers would write stories about them as a novelty.
When this middle aged writer was a teen, played four years of high school football in Daly City, California, whenever my buddies and I would go to gyms in San Francisco for variety, if we saw women working out and lifting there, we often felt they were just doing it to get boyfriends.
The world has clearly changed.
With the proliferation of women heavily participating in fitness programs, leading the way as Fitness Models themselves, and making millions from their Social Media status, so much has evolved.
What about this weight lifting issue?
In many people’s mind, fitness is fine but this whole weight lifting thing is another matter. Some say it’s a real turn off when women retain large amounts of muscle.
Indeed many of our Female Submission Wrestlers are FBBs as well.
The concern is that the strongest women would win on the mats by virtue of strength alone, virtually driving the soft, shapely feminine form out of the game.
Did that happen?
We feel yes and no.
In the mid to late 1990s, early 2000 era, during the snail mail video days, the Fantasy Wrestlers were in abundance especially at erotic oriented companies like Cal Supreme, Joan Wise Club, Video Sports Limited, TPC, Festelle, Flamingo, The German Mat Club and the like.
Women Warriors, which often featured super star Robin and Raven, altered that trend. The latter was a gregarious slender wrestler who never met a conversation that she didn’t want to get involved in. She was the, always trash talking, Penny Barber of that time period.
Then Premiere Productions out of the Eastern United States came along and blew apart the fantasy, shapely girl match up and replaced it with gladiators possessing sun tans and gorgeous female muscle.
The Girl Next Door look was previously highly sought after because it felt real.
It was like Reality TV with your female neighbors and friends on the mats.
A perfect example of this was the then very shapely Jennie Vaughn, a gorgeous light colored shapely brunette who wrestled often at Flamingo in Florida and mostly lost her matches.
Win or lose, most didn’t care as long as she was dominated.
When we move up to her more recent matches at VeVe Lane’s Doommaidens club in New York, Jennie’s body and fighting style had dramatically changed in a more stealth, BoxFit approach.
She’s says it herself in her bio at WB270. “I am a 1st degree black belt in Tae kwon do-which I trained 7 years, I then did some Mui Tai & Jiu jitsu in addition to wrestling.”
Our co-operative site FCI Women’s Wrestling wrote about that improvement:
FCI Womens Wrestling » Jennie Vaughn Improves!
Thus while fantasy wrestlers still exist, it appears they have been relegated to another section of our industry where they primarily wrestle each other and their matches and numbers have dwindled, but are not extinct.
Beautiful starlets Mona Wales, Samantha Grace, Kymberly Jane and Dana Vixen to name a few currently fall into that category.
Eden vs Samantha as Isamar instructs.
All said and done they cannot successfully compete with the heavily trained and slightly muscular Fitness Girls that rule especially in Europe.
We wrote an article about Alkaia from the Czech Republic.

A match at femwrestle.com that is the epitome of this is the battle between the Czech Warrior Princess and the Hungarian beauty Jenna.
Both women seemed to have achieved the balance between muscle building and a shapely feminine form. It makes for both a powerful and erotic match.

We also can cite the now established submission star Savannah Fox.

When she first began to wrestle she was completely a fantasy girl.
Now take a look at her stealth body that has found the balance between muscular fitness and feminine beauty.
We have met her in person and can say that she has completely maintained a feminine and sexy shape with the perfect addition of muscle. She’s super sexy.
One more example of the new balance is Eugenie. Isn’t she absolutely gorgeous?

Having met Eugenie in person, she is very strong, earned a wash board stomach and yet is very sexy and feminine.
In an exceptional November 2014 article in Psychology Today that speaks to muscle development and the feminine physique, here are some intriguing thoughts that they share. “The sport of bodybuilding is unique on its focus on the looks of the body. It differs from, for example, power lifting, from which bodybuilding draws some of its participants.
In power lifting the winner is determined based on the amount of weight lifted without any concern for how the lifter’s body looks. In bodybuilding the size of the muscles (not what the muscles can do) determines the winner.
Many feminist researchers have mapped the psychological benefits of bodybuilding or “working out with weights to reshape the body” (Bolin, 2003, p. 110) for women. Some argue that developing a muscular body increases women’s self-esteem and confidence, because they feel more powerful, healthier, sexier, and in control of their own bodies.
The ‘femininity versus muscle controversy’ was already a central feature of the 1985 semi-documentary Pumping Iron II: The Women. The film followed three women contestants, Bev Francis, Carla Dunlop, and Rachel McLish in the 1983 Ms Olympia contest. These women represented three different types of body ideals.”
In Europe at Fight Pulse and Alpha Catz, they seem to have found the perfect balance between gorgeous feminine muscle and shapely femininity.
See if you agree:

VENERIS
As we can see, according to their research, the Fem Competitor with the balance between the two looks won out.
Sessions of course are another arena since that is strictly about personal taste but the concern we have heard in many circles since we have produced and covered events was that there was a fear that the heavy female body builders were going to dominate the industry and in some way, destroy the eroticism.
In the above cited article, here was one of Psychology Today’s conclusions.
“So is women’s bodybuilding an empowering practice that improves women’s self-esteem? Based on the research, not entirely. While women bodybuilders can feel empowered to challenge the thin feminine ideal, many still struggle to get accepted.”
Like most fears in life, they tend to be exaggerated.
Fortunately today, gorgeous women who are feminine with a balanced arsenal of muscle continue to provide us with the new trend of super sexy matches that we’ve come to know and erotically love.
