Due to the eye brow raising subject matter that titillates as much as it captivates, subtlety in a racy film with hopes of blockbuster status is a very high priority.
And a delicate balance.
The carefully designed storyline and upscale dreamy sets allowed the exceptional Starz TV series, The Girlfriend Experience, to titillate and captivate without overly offending.
As of this November 2016 writing, a renewal of the series has been given the green light.
Though she will not return in the new installments, the gorgeous young actress Riley Keough, the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley, clearly enhanced the series to the “must watch” over and over and over designation.
Her portrayal of a regal, emotionally detached, sensuous baby faced young law student turned elite escort is both believable and mesmerizing.
The cable giant Starz which consistently produces phenomenal television provides the copy, “Christine Reade is a law student and an intern at a prestigious firm but her focus quickly shifts when a classmate introduces her to the world of transactional relationships. Known as GFEs, they are women who provide “The Girlfriend Experience” – emotional and sexual relationships at a price. Juggling two lives, Christine is drawn into the GFE world, attracted to the rush of control and intimacy.”
They also produced another series that we fell madly in love with and watched over and over, then afterwards wrote about it.
The incredibly elegant but naughty, penetrating and ballerina world enlightening, Flesh and Bone is truly unforgettable.
And like a Kim Novak film?
You can’t watch it just once.
Dancer’s Secrets, Starz Flesh And Bone, A Masterpiece
Riley’s lineage surely helps. She’s related to two deceased kings.
One simply named the King in Elvis and the other the King of Pop in Michael Jackson.
With Riley’s performance in GFE, true the writing is exceptional. What else would we expect from the masterful director Steven Soderbergh?
But it was Riley’s acting that made all the difference.
The script writing of a movie can only take us so far. How many films have you seen with writings of wizardry, but the wooden actors who had no chemistry together turned it into a toad.
Where are wizards when you really need them?
What is the primary factor?
It’s not what you learn. It’s not how you are entertained. It’s not even just the titillation, which let’s face it, goes a long way.
It’s how it makes you feel that is the absolute key.
Riley’s acting made me want to watch it over and over because of how it made me feel.
The upscale restaurants, gorgeous but internally questionable educated and intelligent women, corporate warriors with offices that touch the sky and fresh faced emotionally bankrupt young girls with secrets.
Secrets they are willing to share.
Along with other things.
It’s not just about their gender either.
Do you remember Julian Kaye?
He wasn’t just cool. He was ultra-modern 1980’s cool. A Polo lounge lizard that rich mature women couldn’t stay away from.
He stole their hearts then they willingly opened their purses.
American Gigolo is a true niche classic.
And hey? It wasn’t because of the writing. Right?
It was because of Julian. Yes I know you’re a little confused but no I’m not going to call him Richard Gere.
Richard speaks to the Monks, philosophizes with Dick Cavett, fights for important humanitarian causes, pretends to homeless to make a cinematic point and what does he do with the rest of his time?
Dates and marries super models or James Bond Girls.
Very deep stuff for sure (eye brows gently raised).
Ah, but Julian. He’s a pretty simple, masculine and observant incredibly handsome young guy.
He is still alive somewhere. I just know it. I refuse to believe that the stylish and impeccably handsome young Julian Kaye is dead.
Please stop looking at me like that.
Why?
Because of the way he made me feel when I watched AG at least 50 times, at night with no distractions on a big screen TV.
At least the first part anyway. After the hand cuffs on the desk at the police station it mostly goes downhill.
Yet in the beginning, the pulsating Deborah Ann Harry theme song, the pristine black Mercedes, the over-priced luxury retail establishments and the most powerful character in the movie, the beach at Malibu made it the consummate regal package.
American Gigolo.
A timeless classic.
Now don’t get me wrong. Christine Reade is not Julian Kaye. Mercedes? This chick doesn’t even own a car. She’s always in a cab.
But that baby face, those full lips, the amazing wavy flowing hair, that borderline Alicia Silverstone smirk, in certain scenarios, any guy with a power business suit on, a cell phone mashed to his check, mucho coin in the bank and an unsuspecting wife at home will be reaching for the credit card that’s not maxed out, pronto.
Give Christine her props.
So you can imagine when the Dior Perfume group saw Christine Reade they no doubt fawned over her perfect school girl looks and wondered between runway models if she was the daughter of Julian Kaye?
Well look, if Christine is going to be written out of the next series, at least we gleefully still have Riley to swoon over and buy the perfume that she elegantly touches on.
It’s okay. If only for a moment, let’s take a closer look at Riley before she is whisked off to another project.
The enjoyable site fashionista.com speaks to her Dior rise. “Model-turned-actress Riley Keough premiered her buzziest acting role yet on Wednesday night in Manhattan. On Starz’s “The Girlfriend Experience,” based on the 2009 film of the same name, she stars as a lawyer who takes a job as a call girl. As such, the evening warranted a major dress, yet still appropriate for an intimate screening — so Keough, 26, turned to an ol’ faithful of hers: Dior. A decade ago, the “Mad Max: Fury Road” actress was the face of the brand’s Miss Dior Chérie fragrance, as well as an ambassador for the brand.”
In October 2013, Riley co-starred in the video for Justin Timberlake‘s “TKO“, portraying a bitter girlfriend who knocks out Timberlake and ties him to the back of a pick-up truck, proceeding to drag him through the desert and throw him off a cliff.
In terms of the future?
As of this November 11, 2016 writing, Riley will next appear in The Discovery directed by Charlie McDowell, set to be released in 2017 on Netflix.
She will also appear in Justin Kelly‘s untitled upcoming film opposite Abbey Lee and Caleb Landry Jones. Steven Soderbergh‘s Logan Lucky, and It Comes at Night opposite Joel Edgerton and Christopher Abbott, directed by Trey Edward Shults.
We look forward to that.
As far as Julian Kaye?
I know you didn’t believe me when I told you so before, but according to itechpost.com, “American Gigolo,” one of the most successful crime drama films of 1980s, is being adapted as a TV drama series. The classic film that starred Richard Gere and Lauren Hutton has been picked up by Showtime for a reboot. Other than the people behind-the-scenes, further details have yet to be revealed including the new stars that will take the place of Gere and Hutton.”
Didn’t I tell you? Julian Kaye is still alive.
So is Riley.
So alive.
So elegant.
So beautiful.
When you think of Riley as you purchase Dior perfume, please always remember, it’s not in the packaging which is sublime or the brand which is stellar.
Like a Julian Kaye or Christine Reade film?
Its how it’s going to make you feel.
