Movies that thrill the heart and lift the spirits in a troubled world will always be popular.
People have a need to escape, smile and have some fun. Even if they are doing it vicariously.
Watching two happy souls get married is a popular storyline.
It is so often about happy beginnings, without having to live through the challenging middle, the new step kids, the disappointed in-laws due to the first marriage not working and more.
Hopefully there is no soon to be ending.
Why not just stay with the beginning? Good idea. We just want to have fun.

The marriage movie franchise Mama Mia is massive fun, filled with A-List actors.
Mamma Mia! or Mamma Mia! The Movie is a 2008 jukebox musical romantic comedy film directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Catherine Johnson based on the 1999 musical of the same name, also written by Johnson, which itself is based on the songs of pop group ABBA, including the title song, with additional music composed by ABBA member Benny Andersson.
That is a lot of ABBA, a Swedish band that perfected the let’s have fun theory.
ABBA was formed in Stockholm in 1972 by Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad.
The group’s name is an acronym of the first letters of their first names.
They became one of the most commercially successful acts in the history of popular music, topping the charts worldwide from 1974 to 1982.
Estimates of ABBA’s total record sales are around 140 million to 500 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
A wildly successful music group can form a perfect marriage with a highly successful movie.
The film features an ensemble cast, including Christine Baranski, Pierce Brosnan, Dominic Cooper, Colin Firth, Amanda Seyfried, Stellan Skarsgård, Meryl Streep and Julie Walters.
The plot follows a young bride-to-be who invites three men to her upcoming wedding, each one with the possibility of being her father.
Proof that movie goers had a lot of fun, the film grossed $615 million worldwide on a $52 million budget, becoming the fifth highest-grossing film of 2008.
Mamma Mia! That is a lot of green. When a movie studio makes that much profit on a film, you can guess what is coming.
A sequel!
The sequel, titled Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, was released on July 20, 2018 with most of the main cast returning.
The second version was a box office success as well, grossing over $394 million worldwide and received generally positive reviews, with critics praising the performances and musical numbers.
