February 10, 2019,
Exhilarating is one description of how you feel when you have extended the realm of elegance and high end living much further than you expected them to go.
It can be so magical.
Many of us experience that at our hotel stays when we go on vacation. That is the time to dress up and go out to dinners that you would rarely to never indulge in back at home.
Ordering room service while you are in your cotton rob nicely provided by the hotel is a plus too.
We have a notion that when you find a way to bring magic, elegance and a sense of style into your life, on a far more regular basis than not, it will make life healthier and far more enjoyable.
Perhaps the glasses of water that you drink should always be a little chilled with a slice of lemon.
Just like at the hotel.
Why don’t we touch on some magic now with a few creative ideas?
Real life is often the best teacher and the most memorable one.
We knew of friends on a budget who worked 9 to 5 jobs, were raising children but from time to time still wanted to feel some magic in their lives.
They came up with the idea of the progressive eat.
Saturday was typically the day of choice.
So they encouraged the kids to be involved in some wholesome activity allowing the adults could have time for themselves.
Once their time was their own, they would start with an upscale light breakfast at the house of friend number one who would set the table with their fanciest white table cloth, glossiest plates and stylish glasses.
The water was always chilled with a touch of lemon and the orange juice was always freshly squeezed.
What meal you would prepare depends upon your cooking wheel house.
Once breakfast was done, they would depart for friend number two’s home who possessed a large flat screen TV. The windows were completely blacked out by sheets and curtains and the door was closed.
It was the closest setting to a darkened movie experience that you could achieve. They had their list of movies on tap ahead of time, usually chick flick or comedy related because they didn’t want to get into argumentative subjects like politics, war, heavy causes or harsh social issues that would sour the mood.
The major news networks perform their jobs well enough.
Oddly enough, horror films were okay because sometimes due to how stupidly the characters would behave, like after being chased and harassed for an hour, they finally have a chance to kill the villain but they only wound him.
Of course he catches them later and it’s hard to feel sorry for them.
Then, nicely dressed, the group would head to friend number three’s house for an early evening dinner, classy as can be.
The cuisine will change depending upon the host’s skillsets but the agreement was always to do it high end and preferably by candle light.
So much fun.
What originally inspired the idea was the elegance and excitement seen on film or surprisingly certain reality television series, often based in high end Los Angeles.
Usually the characters involved will take you to restaurants that most of us rarely dine at and participate in paid activities we seldom can afford.
It helps when they are young and beautiful. It adds a certain magic that is hard to duplicate at middle age.
One such series is a Starz gem titled The Girl Friend experience.
The Girlfriend Experience is an American anthology drama television series created, written, and directed by Lodge Kerrigan and Amy Seimetz and airing on the premium cable network Starz.
The first season stars Riley Keough as Christine Reade, a law student intern who also works as a high-end escort. Executive produced by Steven Soderbergh, it is based on the 2009 film of the same name.
The series would get renewed with different characters and grittier storylines that just didn’t grab us.
Though the women were beautiful, for us, eventually they lost the magic.
Riley Keough was the sublime gasoline that drove the first ride in a high end car of course.
As Christine, she and her clients ate at the best restaurants with incredible settings and her girlfriend experiences often occurred in the rooms of posh skyscrapers with a view.
Numerous films have sketchy storylines that have a promising beginning but often go pedestrian and south later.
“Looks, health and elegance are what counts. Someone can look wonderful in a sweat suit.”… Oleg Cassini
It is the beginnings that can be magical, especially when it involves young beautiful women that you wished you were in a relationship with, but since you are not, you love going along for the ride until things veer plot predictable and unfulfilling.
At least for a time the atmosphere is cozy, elegant and exhilarating.
Madeline Zima and Agnes Bruckner achieved this in Breaking The Girls. The sparks between the two young women and their early elegant bonding period was captivating.
Surprisingly another film that we knew ahead of time was going to be a predictable thriller was the 2011 film, The Roommate.
We insert the year because since the 1992 film, Single White Female, they have been doing killer, possessive and obsessive psycho girlfriend roommate movies with below average results.
The 2011 version is below average too.
Except for the beginning.
There is a little magic.
First of all the two girls are absolutely gorgeous as compared to the protagonist being popular and beautiful while her future jealous roommate is frumpy, dumpy and temporarily beyond repair.
The Roommate is a 2011 American psychological thriller directed by Christian E. Christiansen and written by Sonny Mallhi. The film stars Leighton Meester, Minka Kelly, Cam Gigandet, Danneel Harris, Matt Lanter, and Aly Michalka.
They are very upfront in admitting it was inspired by Single White Female.
No surprise there.
That is not our point here.
It was the magic between the two beautiful girls played by Leighton and Minka that made you want to stick around.
Watching the beginning of these types of films sometimes makes you wonder what things can be like with the right magical partner.
In reality, you don’t have to wait.
We have a friend who received an incredible promotion that she knew ahead of time was coming.
To create the perfect storm, she worked out more at the gym, increased her jogging schedule, worked on her skin and hair and enhanced her wardrobe.
Once the promotion arrived, so did the newer and improved version of who she once was.
The world of film can inspire us in the dark to analyze how we can bring more magic into our lives on a regular basis.
A sense of style, elegance and magic is the brainchild of civilization.
Yes we know there are bugs beneath the carpets and foundation. There are animals and parasites out in the wild. The city survives on an efficient sewer system. Majestic skyscrapers and high end hotels once started in the mud.
It is the creative minds of women and men with a vision that enhance and transform it into a magical world.
That is the beauty of civilization.
The magic is swirling all around us.
We just need to use a little imagination to capture and invite it in, to be a frequent love interest.
