“For me life is continuously being hungry. The meaning of life is not simply to exist, to survive, but to move ahead, to go up, to achieve, to conquer.” Arnold Schwarzenegger said that and it seems to be the spirit that emboldens trendsetters, trailblazers and pioneers to continue to break new ground and change people’s thinking.
At Female Competition International, in our quest to bring global women’s wrestling into the new social media and corporate world, women who blaze trails and are the first to break the mold always get our attention.
An example of this is the late Geraldine Anne Ferraro (August 26, 1935 – March 26, 2011) an American attorney, a Democratic Party politician, and a member of the United States House of Representatives. She was the first female vice presidential candidate representing a major American political party.
Today the thought of a qualified woman running for president is widely respected and accepted. When Ms. Ferraro ran as a Vice Presidential candidate, the thought of a woman fulfilling that role in 1984 was previously unheard of.
We will always cherish Ms. Ferraro’s courage.
In our fully competitive female submission wrestling world back in the 1990’s, female grappling was primarily seen as a male pleasure product. When the female body builders began to enter the fray, a movement would be set in motion that would raise the bar and change the competition level forever.
One of the pioneers in that movement was the attractive dark haired, sexy muscular lady named Ziggy.
I remember as a snail mail video consumer, I first saw Ziggy wrestling at a South Florida company which matched her up against Scotland’s sensational Jill Monroe, as tough a competitor as they come. I was surprised at how easily Ziggy dismantled and dominated her.
The combination of Ziggy’s speed, agility, strength and skill rendered a proven star like Jill helpless. This was the first time I saw the mastery of a FBB wrestler at work.
She would later go up against the legendary Beatrice Goffin in the ring for a private company and by now I knew that Ziggy was a force. The match between her and Beatrice is a classic.
During her brilliant career Ziggy has faced Kristie Etzold, Robin, Jill, Kasie Cavanaugh, Josephine, Anita, Laurie Ann, Mimi, Amber, Sally McNeil, super star Kathy from Europe and a barn burner with former WWE Super Star Jennifer Thomas.
Let’s view a promo that high lights her match against Jennifer.
The site womanvswoman.com explains, “From the second that we said, “Go!” these ladies attacked each other with pure aggression. This is definitely one of our most competitive, submission matches ever filmed. Although the ladies both use their strong technical wrestling skills to dominate their opponent, there are so many moments where pure brute strength takes over and a headlock gets clamped down as hard as possible or somebody desperately uses a forearm to forcefully crowbar their way out of a savage head scissor. These girls know all the moves and all the holds, even some that we’ve never seen before.
The action is fast paced and furious as they grapple, and when someone secures a good hold, things get slower and it’s a pure test of strength and will power to avoid submitting. This is give and take submission wrestling at its finest. If you like highly skilled, competitive female wrestling, don’t miss seeing this match.”
According to WB270, Ziggy is from New Jersey.
Let’s travel there and view the village that helped form Ziggy.
The official site of the State of New Jersey shares some interesting insights. “New Jersey was known as the “Pathway of the Revolution.” Over 100 battles were fought on New Jersey soil. New Jersey has more horses per square mile than any other state. The United States Equestrian Team is headquartered in Gladstone, New Jersey.”
Did you know that? I sure didn’t. By the way, did you ever know why it is called the Garden State?
The state cite continues, “While most people associate agriculture with our nation’s heartland, New Jersey is home to more than 9,071 farms covering 715,057 acres of farmland. The state is among the leaders in many forms of agricultural production. For example, New Jersey ranks: 5th in blueberry production, 3rd in cranberry production, 3rd in spinach, 3rd in bell peppers, 4th in peach production. The state also produces an abundance of tomatoes, corn, apples, strawberries, potatoes, hay, soybeans and nursery stock.”
Wikipedia now provides us with the meat. “New Jersey is a state in the Northeastern and Middle Atlantic regions of the United States. It is bordered on the north and east by New York State, on the southeast and south by the Atlantic Ocean, on the west by Pennsylvania, and on the southwest by Delaware.
New Jersey is the fourth-smallest state, but the 11th-most populous and the most densely populated of the 50 United States. New Jersey lies entirely within the combined statistical areas of New York City and Philadelphia. It is also the second-wealthiest U.S. state by median household income, according to the 2008–2012 American Community Survey.
New Jersey was one of the Thirteen Colonies that revolted against British rule in the American Revolution. The New Jersey Constitution of 1776 was passed July 2, 1776, just two days before the Second Continental Congress declared American Independence from Great Britain.”
It was a microscopic view but welcome to New Jersey.
Let’s expand our view of Ziggy. The praise continues to mount.
The respected female wrestling company Femwin states, “Ziggy is one of the most recognizable names in real submission wrestling. She’s a credit to the sport and pound-for-pound is one of the best female wrestlers ever. Although not the biggest, Ziggy has the strength, quickness and technique to defeat much larger men or women. She’s well known for being an expert at applying scissor holds.”
This writer remembers her wrestling for Premier Productions in the 1990s and the whole FBB scene came across to me as an intriguing female wrestling aberration, a special niche.
That was then and with the proliferation of feminine FBB in our modern times, I feel differently now. Still, let’s please give credit to Ziggy for being a pioneer. The respected site girlswithmuscle.com sure does.
“For the youngsters in the Girls with Muscles crowd, Ziggy is a legendary wrestler working in the main for Premier Productions in the 90s, perhaps even the 80s. Possessing a fine, muscular physique and immense technical skills, Ziggy kicked a lot of FBB’s asses on the mats, many considerably bigger and stronger than herself. Ziggy is a true ALPHA Female.”
Would you like to take your chances and wrestle Ziggy? She has plenty of satisfied customers. Here is praise from one of them.
“”I have known ZIGGY over 8 years and have wrestled her many times. ZIGGY is one of the best female wrestlers out there today. She is always friendly, extremely intelligent and very attractive. She is a bodybuilder but looks like a fitness model and is beautiful in a bikini!! She is a highly skilled wrestler, very quick, and can have you tapping out in no time. ZIGGY can do it all, from semi-competitive/competitive wrestling, boxing and Jui-Jitsu. She has been training for a few years now in Brazilian Jui-Jitsu and has won major tournaments. She is one very versatile and skillful wrestler!!”
Sometimes it’s easy to forget or take for granted the sacrifices and innovation that pioneers paved the way for. I think we would all agree that as our female wrestling industry continues to progress closer to mainstream acceptance, female body builders certainly helped raise the bar.
Ziggy not only raised the women’s submission wrestling bar; she lifted it above her head and beautified it as well.
