March 24, 2023,
It was the cat suit worn, quite snugly, that garnered attention around the world.
On the surface it sounds great. In fact, it was great to many.
Especially if it were worn on the set of Batman or Cat Woman.
The problem was it was worn at the beginning of the first set.
At the 2018 French Open and the tournament officials were not amused.
As posted by National Public Radio npr.org, “Serena Williams caused a sensation with the black catsuit she wore at this year’s French Open tournament. But French tennis officials aren’t as fashion-forward. From now on, players’ attire apparently will be subject to a dress code — and Williams’ sleek outfit is out.”
Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. And here we thought the French were so fashion forward.
Having said that, there is always a need for innovative and fresh ideas when it comes to women’s tennis fashion, and their advertisers, as they go on display at major tournaments.
A sense of fashion style is always fun.
And lucrative.
Women’s tennis and fashion have always made news. At essentiallysports.com they shared, “It doesn’t take long for companies and events to pursue sports players for advertisement. Especially players whose rise to the top is steep. Maria Sharapova was one such player. The world set its eyes on her when she first rose to rank 1 in the WTA in 2005. Several companies have endorsed her ever since. Sharapova has also collaborated with several fashion and hair designers.”
We always loved the way Maria looked on the court and off.
Oh, the memories.
At merchantoftennis.com they remind us, “Recently retired Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark was known for her very feminine adidas by Stella McCartney dresses. Wozniacki wore her first dress by the label at the 2009 U.S. Open. The dress had ruffles at the bottom, characteristic of a ballerina skirt. However, over the years, Wozniacki endorsed more tight fitting dresses for match play and a crop tops with high rise leggings during practice.”
Blessed with the glamorous looks that even outshined her cool and hip tennis wear, Caroline was often on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Edition.
In 2007, Ms. Wozniacki signed an endorsement deal with Adidas, who sponsored her for clothing, footwear, and apparel throughout her career; she previously wore Nike clothing and footwear.
In 2009, she became an endorser for the line of tennis apparel designed by Stella McCartney for Adidas. She wore her first ‘Adidas by Stella McCartney’ tennis dress at the 2009 US Open, and would go on to wear McCartney’s designs throughout the rest of her career.
Caroline created fashion excitement every time she stepped on to the courts. The world couldn’t wait to see what she was going to wear next.
So, what is going on in the women’s tennis fashion world today?
There is an exciting company, found on Amazon, which is bringing fun and style back to women’s tennis fashion.
Pay attention. They’re serving.
