Female submission wrestlers are often independent contractors and if you ever thought about supplementing your income, it appears Marriott Corporation is an ideal place to work part-time.
The respected women’s magazine workingmother.com informs, “When flexible schedules were piloted at Marriott’s Knoxville, TN, business services center, the number of calls handled by Customer Care nearly doubled.
Working moms all over the United States have signed up for this hotel chain’s Flex Staffing option, which allows them to slash their hours, handpick projects and telecommute as needed. Just 355 associates used it last year, but 72% were women—and their ranks are growing.”
When you look at the larger picture this might be an excellent option because of Marriott’s track record of taking strong steps to help in the career advancement of women across the globe.
The company site news.marriott.com shares, “Speaking at the 2013 Clinton Global Initiative (CGI,) on a panel about “Women Decision-Makers in the Global Economy,” Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE: MAR) President and Chief Executive Officer, Arne Sorenson voiced the company’s strong commitment to supporting the advancement of women as part of the growth strategy for the global hospitality company, which has 3800 hotels in 72 countries.
“Our portfolio of hotels will benefit tremendously if women are able to achieve their full potential in the global economy,” said Sorenson. “That’s why we are focused on advancing women in our company’s management and executive ranks, gaining their loyalty as customers, creating economic opportunity as hotel owners, and nurturing women-owned businesses through our supply chain. This is an important strategy for Marriott’s global growth and the vitality of communities where we do business.”
A commitment to diversity and inclusion has been woven through the fabric of Marriott’s culture since its founding more than 85 years ago. Through the company’s Global Diversity & Inclusion Council, which drives Marriott’s global strategy, each of the company’s five Continent Presidents, have regional diversity and inclusion goals, focusing on customers, associates, hotel owners and the women and diverse-owned businesses which sell goods and services to Marriott. Women-owned businesses make up the largest spend with diverse groups, accounting for 10 percent of Marriott’s total purchases of products. In 2012, Marriott spent $257 million with 4,000 women-owned businesses in North America.
Marriott was recently honored with a Condé Nast Traveler World Savers Award for mobilizing suppliers to protect the environment and promoting women’s entrepreneurship.
The website also relates that Marriott has a longstanding history of diversity and inclusion. In 2014, the company celebrates 25 years of its formal diversity and inclusion program and 15 years of its Women’s Leadership Initiative. Marriott is consistently recognized for championing diversity and inclusion, including: Human Rights Campaign 100 percent equality score, DiversityInc’s Top 50 Companies for Diversity and for Supplier Diversity, LatinaStyle Top 50, Working Mother Best Places to Work and Top Company as Named by the Executive Leadership Council.

This view is also supported by www.catalyst.org which expresses, “The goal of Marriott International’s initiative, Women and Marriott: Partners for the Future, is to attract, advance, and retain talented women in a business that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. After extensive internal research, the company created a three-pronged approach: improving the career planning and promotion process, creating career development tools to encourage networking and mentoring, and providing increased support for work/life balance.”
Balance is the essence of life and what is consistent with a global conscience is not only showing respect for the advancement of women but concern for our ever threatened environment as well.
In its cultures and values section Marriott speaks to what they are doing in well-defined ways to support a healthy environment.
“Our sustainability strategy supports business growth and reaches beyond the doors of our hotels to preserve and protect our planet’s natural resources. Marriott’s environmental goals are to:”
- Further reduce energy and water consumption 20% by 2020 (Energy 20 percent per kWh/conditioned m2; Water 20 percent per occupied room (POR). Baseline: 2007);
• Empower our hotel development partners to build green hotels;
• Green our multi-billion dollar supply chain;
• Educate and inspire associates and guests to conserve and preserve
In 2011, we developed the first LEED Volume Program (LVP) to provide a streamlined path to certification for the hospitality industry through a green hotel prototype.
Working in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) and the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), Marriott is empowering our hotel development partners to build green hotels.
Marriott has 106 LEED-registered hotels, and 31 LEED-certified hotels.
The LEED Volume Program that Marriott offers can save our owners 25 percent in energy and water consumption for the life of their buildings and should recover their initial investment in two-to-six years.
To help mitigate the direct and indirect environmental impacts of our hotels, we are investing in a portfolio of innovative conservation initiatives that are part of our “Spirit to Preserve” environmental strategy.
Marriott has contributed more than $2 million to the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation (FAS) and raised nearly $300,000 through our partners, guests and associates to protect 1.4 million acres of rainforest in Brazil.
Wouldn’t you agree that the above describes a work culture that would be easy to embrace?
So if you were thinking about part-time work to supplement your income it seems you have come to the right organization.
