July 16, 2023,
To San Antonio with love.
Sounds like the makings for a great movie.
Or inaugural tennis tournament.
To make sure that a major tournament is a household name, you need a star whose name is love.
That would be Venus Williams. In ancient Greece, that is her name origin.
So, she comes to San Antonio and love is certain to follow, along with other top tennis players.
Venus Williams is a great American professional tennis player.
A former world No. 1 in both singles and doubles, Ms. Williams has won seven Grand Slam singles titles, five at Wimbledon and two at the US Open.
She is widely regarded as one of the all-time greats of the sport. So when she comes to San Antonio, people will be watching.
There is so much to love about San Antonio, Texas.
San Antonio is the seventh-most populous in the United States, the second-largest in the Southern United States, and the second-most populous in Texas. It is the 12th-most populous city in North America, with 1,434,625 residents as of 2020.
From 2000 to 2010, the city was the fastest growing of the top ten largest cities in the United States; it was the second in growth in that category from 1990 to 2000.
Simply amazing. People love the sun.
Straddling the regional divide between South and Central Texas, San Antonio anchors the southwestern corner of an urban megaregion colloquially known as the Texas Triangle.
Downtown San Antonio and Downtown Austin are approximately 80 miles apart, both falling along the Interstate 35 corridor. Some observers expect the two metropolitan regions to form a new Metro connection similar to Dallas and Fort Worth.
San Antonio is a fantastic place to have a major tennis tournament.
More about that tournament.
At their website they educate, “The San Antonio International Team Tennis Championships were created to showcase top professionals from the ATP & WTA Tours, NCAA, and top ranked juniors in a fun and competitive team format. The three-day event will be played between the Austin Capitals and the San Antonio Smash, November 10-12, 2023 at Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas.
These championships will benefit children from Compton to Kyiv and throughout the State of Texas through the Bush ACE Outreach Program, SA Sports I-Play and the charitable work of the participating athletes including the Sloane Stephens Foundation, the Elina Svitolina Foundation, the Bryan Brothers Foundation and the John Isner Foundation.”
Very impressive. All for a great cause.
