Like truth, seeing elegance is often hard to define; perceptions vary depending upon the eyes of the beholder, but we all know it when we see it.
Many female submission wrestlers of legend were beautiful, spell-binding, magical and unforgettable. When they competed they exuded high quality, excellence, class and though they did not seek it, commanded respect.
For me, TPC’s Laura from France who wrestled primarily from 1999-2003 personified elegance in bold, yet quiet colors.
That was the thing with Laura. In all the years that I watched her, I’m not sure I heard her speak barely above a whisper.
Her demeanor was very soft, feminine, quiet, cooperative and observant. In regards to her skill level, using her long beautiful legs effectively, she could wrestle with the best of them.
INSIDE BATTLES
Laura’s inside battles revealed a prolific style where she loved to use her long legs to trap and scissor her prey. This worked well on the yellow mats against Luna, a match that Laura primarily controlled. It worked well against Rose inside the apartment in front of an audience as she cranked out a body scissors that eventually led to a school girl pin submission.
Her match against the sexy German Suzanne was a back and forth ground struggle but she clearly held her own against the talented frequent DWW visitor.
HER REVIEWS
Here are some of her match description that speaks to her energy and wrestling passion.
“Experienced wrestler Jo Anne soon found new girl Laura no pushover as Laura was determined to attack.”
“Popular French wrestler, Laura, takes on two NEW attractive wrestlers in singles matches on the mat. Bianca, at 5’10” had the height advantage and she, like Lucy, battled hard and proved she did not like to lose, pushing Laura hard until the end.”
“Julie said that she was a street fighter but soon found Laura was also tough. One girl could not last the pace.”
Laura’s signature match for me was a very odd one in the ring where she wrestled Yvette. It was clearly a semi-competitive pro styled match where they took turns dominating one another but there was something that Yvette did that clearly upset Laura and she broke down and cried real tears.
In 2002 she was a part of history when she battled the absolutely gorgeous and sultry Italian model Luna in her last match. Here is the match description.
“The popular Luna faces the aggressive French star Laura in this battle of the beauties before a small club audience. Although more experienced Luna finds Laura overwhelming as she is trapped and dominated.
This proved to be the last match for Luna who officially retired afterwards after over 10 years with TPC. Don’t miss this action and a chance to see Luna’s last match!”
Well friends, it’s time to travel with FCI this time to two destinations. First let’s take a brief regional tour of Laura’s magnificent home of France and then back in time to 1999 where it basically began for our retired French star.
The enjoyable travel site about-france.com reveals something that I suspect many of us didn’t know about one of Europe’s historical gems. “Regions are the principal territorial units of France. There are 22 regions in metropolitan France, i.e. continental France plus the island of Corsica. There are five overseas regions. In principle, their number will be reduced to 13 at the start of 2016.
Each region has its regional council, whose members are elected by universal suffrage. The council is presided over by a regional president, and has a full local administration to go with it.”
Did you know that?
Let’s relax, sip some aged wine and reflect on the beauty of a few of the regions.
This fantastic link will give you the full story while we walk barefoot upon grapes and provide you with samples. http://www.france.fr/en/regions-and-cities/french-regions.html
Burgundy: history in the open air – Sometimes religious, sometimes medieval, Burgundy is home to a rich heritage that is a mix of styles and periods. Its conserved natural sites are outstanding, its canals, which extend over some 1,000 km, are breath-taking.
Centre : on the road of the châteaux- The Centre region, the historic birth place of France, reveals its architectural treasures. The main towns are distinguished by their majestic cathedrals and their surrounding by the famous chateaux that mark the way along the Loire. All of them bear witness to a rich past.
Champagne-Ardenne : a sparkling queen – Champagne-Ardenne is France’s leading agricultural region, with more than 60% of its surface area dedicated to agriculture, a standing it owes, in particular, to its famous champagne. Here the wine of kings rules as absolute monarch. It is the driving force of the whole region.
Corsica : a mountain in the sea-Heavenly beaches, unspoilt creeks, steep mountains, impenetrable scrub… Corsica is a mosaic of landscapes. It is both sea and mountain, hospitable and wild. A real “Beautiful Island”…
Franche-Comté : land of contrasts – Its 230 km border with Switzerland places Franche-Comté in the heart of Europe. It is a land of contrasts, with rivers, forest fringed lakes and plains bounded by two mountain ranges: the Vosges and the Jura.
Aquitaine : the cradle of humanity – Bordered on its western side by 155 miles of ocean coastlines, Aquitaine shares a border with Spain via its mountains, the Atlantic Pyrenees. The third most extensive region in France, it possesses unsuspected riches. There are no less than 2,800 structures listed as historical monuments!
That was memorable and filled with magic.
Do you remember what was happening during Laura’s TPC reign? It’s time to walk into town for some lunch and reflect.

As we can see, Laura wrestled during a very dynamic time period. She didn’t demand our attention. Instead she magically allowed us to become addicted.
So much of our lives in reflection are comprised of our memories. We all need a little elegance in our lives. As we get older, like fine wine, we appreciate it more. Like watching the great TPC wrestler Laura, this time easy to define; we also know elegance when we see it.
