October 28, 2024,
How often you think about the way things should have turned out for you, compared to how ecstatic you are about how the way your life currently is, says a lot about the state of affairs in your life.
Hopefully you are very happy with where you are.
Many are not.
There is much discussion and warning signs about young men being unhappy with their situation. The global news and information source cnbc.com posted, “about 10.5% of men in their prime working years, or roughly 6.8 million men nationwide, are neither working nor looking for employment, compared with just 2.5% in 1954.”
Part of what is fueling this situation is that young men are not going to college as much as they used to and more likely to be unhappy about their situation.
What can also contribute to unhappiness about your current situation is watching someone be incredibly successful at what they do, in comparison to what you are not doing, but badly wanted to.
One of our female associates wanted to be a financially successful writer and dreamed of the lifestyle. In that life, not only could you work from home and set your own hours but if you so desired, you could travel to virtually any destination you wanted.
Do you want to cocoon in a 5 star hotel, complete with a view of a major city skyline with stars shining bright. The room service is impeccable. The food, incredibly delicious. Put the no disturb sign out and write until your heart is content. Go down the elevator, walk onto the street and feel the pulse of a vibrant city, new to you.
Stay in a rustic cottage and walk in silence in a majestic forest.
What a lifestyle.
So, when she sees famous female writers on major networks called in as Special Consultants, who give their viewpoint and advice on the subject of the news cycle, they invariably plug their book as well. She can just envision the next whopping advance they will get from their publisher. They are well-coiffed as though they work with the best stylists and fashion designers.
Our associate is a paid writer, which is much better than being a hobby writer, but in her mind, she has not remotely achieved the success she had hoped for. So when she views these wildly successful writers, the respect they garner and the incredible lifestyles they live, she feels like she missed the boat.
Did she? Rhetorical but what do you think?
One of our favorite female writers from back in the day was a change merchant.
Jacqueline Susann, August 20, 1918 – September 21, 1974, was an American novelist and actress.
Her novel Valley of the Dolls (1966) is one of the best-selling books in publishing history.
With her two subsequent works, The Love Machine (1969) and Once Is Not Enough (1973). For us, the movie Valley of the Dolls stood out. In terms of the book, Once Is Not Enough, really stood out. Let’s find out why.
Once Is Not Enough is the third novel by Jacqueline Susann, published in 1973 following her huge bestsellers Valley of the Dolls. With Once Is Not Enough, Susann became the first writer in publishing history to have three consecutive #1 novels on the New York Times Best Seller list.
The story reflects the social upheavals of the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Sales were enormous. The book spent 36 weeks on The New York Times Best Seller List, with eight of those weeks at #1. It became the second highest-selling novel of 1973.
Critics aside, it clearly struck a nerve.
Ready to talk about cuisine?
How many of our relatives are incredible cooks? For us, their magic really blossomed during the holidays. Having said that, how many are lucratively compensated for doing so?
We know of one relative who wished more people appreciated their great cooking talents. Well, there are a myriad of cooks with great cooking talents, are famous and wonderfully compensated.
Let’s meet one.
Anne Marie “Ree” Drummond is an American blogger, author, food writer, and television personality. Drummond became known for her blog, The Pioneer Woman, which documented her life in rural Oklahoma.
Capitalizing on the success of her blog, Ms. Drummond stars in her own television program, also titled The Pioneer Woman, on The Food Network which began in 2011. She has also written cookbooks, a children’s book, and an autobiography.
In 2015, Drummond launched a “homey lifestyle” product line of cookware, cutlery, appliances, clothing and outdoor living products.
We are from Texas, and from our view, there are few things as tasty and memorable as Southern cooking. It is so unique, delicious and filling. When we look at Ree’s dishes, it literally makes our mouth water. She is extremely impressive.
In life, at times, we look at our situation and see where we are and then look at others and ask ourselves, why aren’t we doing as well as them? Our response to that is to not give up and stay ambitious.
Let’s walk over to the bookstore.
The Power of Ambition: Awakening the Powerful Force Within You (An Official Nightingale-Conant Publication) Paperback – April 19, 2022
By Jim Rohn (Author)
“From America’s leading authority on success comes a book that will help you redefine ambition so that you can use your drive to serve others while creating the fulfilling life you desire.
In The Power of Ambition, Jim Rohn debunks the myths and misconceptions about ambition that cause it to hinder, rather than fuel, personal achievement. Genuine ambition is not a self-serving impulse. Quite the opposite—it empowers us to better our lives and the lives of those around us. Rohn details six revolutionary strategies for cultivating legitimate ambition and harnessing it to transform what is going on within and around you.
Ambition is as much a mindset as it is a lifestyle. As Rohn defines it: “True ambition is disciplined, eager desire.” The Power of Ambition will help you live with intention every moment so that you can enjoy the change you envision for your life.”
Very inspiring.
Especially if you are young, don’t give up on your dreams. Yes, some are having more success than you would like to have yourself, but view it as temporary.
Keep trying.
Be creative.
Be persistent.
Study those who are successful and do research on what they did.
Above all, take your ambition seriously. Do it right now. Then in your life, going around once, is wonderfully enough.
