March 7, 2023,
Because of these agreements, they should never have to work again.
Unless they want to.
Unless they still have something to prove or achieve.
Endorsements can do that for you.
It’s all up to you.
There are top female stars across the spectrum who work because they want to, due to their substantial financial accruals from endorsements.
One of our favorite female tennis players, Naomi Osaka, has taken a break from the tour. We certainly missed her talents at the 2023 Australian Open. It wasn’t the same without her.
Here, in part, is why she wasn’t there.
As posted by sportingnews.com, “Tennis Australia were the first to announce that Osaka had withdrawn from the first Grand Slam tournament of the year. Osaka herself later revealed the primary reason behind her absence, sharing that she is pregnant with her first child.”
Congratulations to Naomi. We will miss her. She expressed she won’t return until the 2024 season. For most expected mothers, that would raise financial concerns.
Not for Naomi.
The informative news and information source justwomenssports.com, “Naomi Osaka has once again topped the list of highest-paid female athletes, bringing in $57.3 million last year, according to Forbes. Osaka’s tumultuous year on-the-court showed, with her winnings down to just $2.3 million from $5.2 million the year prior.”
Imagine that.
Compared to the previous year, you lose close to $2.5 million in earnings and are still smiling and buying.
We always listen to what Forbes Magazine has to say. They remind, “Osaka has been bothered by back, abdominal and Achilles injuries and has seen her world ranking slip to 44th. But she’s a marketing powerhouse, endorsing nearly 20 brands, including recent additions FTX, a cryptocurrency exchange, and Modern Health, a mental health platform.”
Her tennis earnings are down substantially but in most ways it doesn’t matter when you rake in $57.3 million in endorsements.
According to online sources, the established star added more than ten brand sponsors in 2021, including Louis Vuitton, Sweetgreen and Tag Heuer.
The team at sportskhabri.com provides more details and adds, “In January 2021, French fashion house Louis Vuitton unveiled Naomi Osaka as a brand ambassador. Though the financial terms of the deal were not made public, according to The Action Network’s Darren Rovell, the deal is estimated to fetch her a ‘seven-figure’ salary annually. As part of the agreement, the four-time Grand Slam winner will feature in Louis Vuitton’s Spring Summer 2021 campaign by designer Nicholas Ghesquière.”
Naomi can look forward to motherhood without worrying about her income.
Which brings us to another star whose endorsement figures might surprise you.
Emma Raducanu is a British professional tennis player.
Emma reached a career-high ranking of No. 10 by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) on July 11, 2022, and is the current British Number One.
Ms. Raducanu is the first British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title since Virginia Wade at the 1977 Wimbledon Championships.
Emma was born in Toronto and raised in London. She made her WTA Tour debut in June 2021.
Just a tennis baby.
With a wildcard entry at Wimbledon, ranked outside the top 300, she reached the fourth round in her first major tournament.
At the 2021 US Open, Emma became the first singles qualifier in the Open Era to win a Grand Slam title, beating Leylah Fernandez in the final without dropping a set in the tournament.
Drum roll please.
It was only the second Grand Slam tournament of her young career. Emma holds the Open Era record for the fewest majors played before winning a title.
That is incredibly impressive and if you have a savvy team, can land you some endorsements.
Emma is sponsored by Nike for clothing and shoes, and by Wilson for racquets, currently endorsing the Wilson Blade range of racquets.
Emma’s popularity and marketability increased considerably after her US Open victory, with sports analysts noting her potential to appeal to multiple markets. The British sensation’s net worth was estimated to be $12 million in a June 2022 article.
All of that makes you want to take a deep breath.
This will help tremendously in getting you endorsements.
Emma signed with sports agency IMG while on the junior circuit and has been represented by executive Max Eisenbud. As a result, she was ranked the 12th most marketable athlete in the world in 2022 by SportsPro.
There’s more.
In September of 2021, Emma became a brand ambassador for the jewelry brand Tiffany & Co. and Dior in October 2021.
In December of 2021, she signed with British Airways and French bottled water brand Evian.
Emma also became an ambassador for British telecommunications firm Vodafone and German automobile manufacturer Porsche in March 2022.
In June of 2022, Emma signed a four-year deal with British multinational bank HSBC.
The awards Emma achieved add to her market value as well.
In March 2022, Emma was named Sports Star of the Year at the Stylist’s Remarkable Women Awards 2022.
In April 2022, Ms. Raducanu won the Laureus World Sports Award for Breakthrough of the Year award. She won the Best Athlete, Women’s Tennis award at the 2022 ESPY Awards.
The group at mirror.co.uk summarizes it well posting, “According to The Sun , in the 12 months up to the end of May 2022, Raducanu earned £22.8million, placing third behind second place Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka, who is this year’s highest paid female athlete at £46m. Just £2.8m of the teen’s earnings have coming from tennis matches, and £1.8m came from her US Open win last year.”
Sweet.
The world of female tennis is an amazing place to watch and be.
We thoroughly enjoyed the first Grand Slam of the year in the 2023 Australian Open and what amazes us is not only what occurs on the courts but also the big money being made off the courts.
Some may feel that Naomi has been feeling sad on the courts but we sense she is ecstatic off of them, in the business offices, corporate fashion sets, power lunch meetings and still enjoying a jet set lifestyle.
Emma exited early from the Aussie Open but given what she is making off the courts, it made her departure less painful.
