August 27, 2020,
Local groceries stores are wonderful at providing for our basic food needs and they are getting better at offering healthier choices but sometimes, for greater variety, you need to go to super market sources that specialize in healthy nutrition, if that is your aim.
It certainly is ours.
One of the best health oriented stores that we love is Sprouts.
Love their inventory and variety.
Sprouts Farmers Market, Inc., is a supermarket chain headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
The grocer offers a wide selection of natural and organic foods, including fresh produce, bulk foods, vitamins and supplements, packaged groceries, meat and seafood, deli, baked goods, dairy products, frozen foods, natural body care and household items.
Sprouts employs more than 30,000 team members and operates more than 300 stores in 20 states.
Fortune included Sprouts on its list of the World’s Most Admired Companies in 2018 and 2019.
Count us among that group. We certainly admire them too.
Sprouts offers a wide selection of healthful products at low prices that are minimally processed and free of artificial flavors, colors, preservatives and synthetic ingredients.
The organization states that 90% of its products meet this standard.
Sprouts has its own private label brand of products, featuring more than 2,400 items.
Very impressive.
Sprouts offers beef products that range from choice cuts to grass-fed. They also have a large Vitamins & Supplements department with more than 7,500 products.
Produce makes up approximately a quarter of the business for Sprouts and the store carries around 200 varieties of organic produce. As a healthy food grocer dedicated to affordability and accessibility, one third of the store is always on promotion.
We can attest to that.
Most of their customers have their favorite items that they can’t seem to get anywhere else and we certainly have ours.
Their dried fruit section is incredible.
The dried mangos and papaya are delicious. Almost like candy except good for you. Especially your digestion.
From time to time we’ve also selected some of their fine salmon, when cooked properly, seems to melt like butter on your tongue.
Then there is the sushi. Yummy. Depending upon the day that you come in there are different offerings and virtually all that we consumed were delicious and fresh. A cousin to the sushi is kimchi. They have a tasty product in a jar offering this Korean staple that we love as well.
Sprouts operates with a focus on the environment, product quality and supply chain transparency, team members, and local communities.
As part of Sprouts’ commitment to “zero waste,” Sprouts participates in a food waste diversion program that provides food to those in need, feed for animals, and nutrients for agricultural soil.
All edible food that is no longer fit for sale is donated to hunger relief agencies and food that is not fit for hunger relief agencies is donated as cattle feed.
Finally cows can have their day too and eat healthy.
They seem to think of everything.
Everything else is donated as compost, which enriches soils with nutrients.
In 2019, The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized Sprouts with several recognition through its GreenChill program, a partnership with food retailers to reduce refrigerant emissions and decrease their impact on the ozone layer and climate change.
Very impressive.
As impressive is their financial prowess. They appear to be extremely healthy in that department too.
As reported on March 17, 2020 at finance.yahoo.com, “Sprouts Farmers Market, Inc. SFM was a big mover last session, as the company saw its shares rise more than 12% on the day. The move came on solid volume too with far more shares changing hands than in a normal session. This stock, which remained volatile and traded within the range of $13.32 –$17.99 in the past one-month time frame, witnessed a sharp increase yesterday.”
We are so happy that they are doing well because we love shopping there. It’s kind of like a guilty pleasure.
So this is who they are today. We are a little curious about their history. We sense it is fascinating.
Visiting their home at about.sprouts.com they relate, “Some say natural is the new normal – but at Sprouts, there’s nothing new about natural foods! Back in 2002, we opened our first store in an effort to make natural foods accessible to everyone. Up until then, grocers offering fresh, organic choices were either too expensive to shop or too hard to find. We wanted to be different! No more weaving through a maze of narrow aisles without anyone offering to help. No more ingredient lists featuring 40 unpronounceable chemicals. And most of all, no more spending an entire paycheck for food from the honest effort of a farmer – not a factory.
To us, being different is good!
People thought we were crazy when we wouldn’t sell the country’s top-selling sodas, snacks and candy. But we believed that eating clean and living healthy was more than just a trend. At Sprouts, it’s our passion. And we knew that by focusing on farm-fresh produce and other healthy, affordable items, we could create a grocery experience where you didn’t have to be wealthy to eat healthy!
So think of Sprouts as all of the very best parts of a real farmers market under one roof, open every day of the week. With our commitment to value in every department, and knowledgeable and friendly team members, we’re confident that once you shop Sprouts you’ll think different is good too.
Today we have grown to more than 340 stores and over 30,000 team members. It’s these individuals who are the key to our success. They’re the ones who put good at the heart of everything we do at Sprouts … every day, in every community, with every guest.”
Well said.
Consumers seem to be in step with Sprout’s goals.
At the global business news and information source, forbes.com they add, “The biggest trend driving change in the food and beverage industry right now is TRANSPARENCY. Consumers want to know and understand what ingredients are going into their products, which is why we are seeing so many innovative products with shorter ingredient lists that you can pronounce. Consumers are seeking simplicity in addition to better quality foods.”
We are confident they will continue to expand and improve upon their products and offerings.
Our hope is that their stores keeps sprouting up in one community after another.
