Sonoma County, just mildly north of San Francisco, is home to a film that featured one of the most beautiful women in the world, located in one of the most beautiful and scenic towns on earth.
A successful fashion model who appeared on the front covers of Life and Glamour magazines, among others, Ms. Hedren became an actress after she was discovered by director Alfred Hitchcock while appearing on a television commercial in 1961. She achieved worldwide recognition for her work in two of his films: the suspense-thriller The Birds (1963), for which she won a Golden Globe, and the psychological drama Marnie (1964).
We absolutely loved Tippi in both iconic films.
While the elegant Tippi captivated and sent chills down our spines in Alfred Hitchcock’s classic The Birds, Bodega Bay never looked more serene and enticing.
We’ve been there, more than once and it is much better than advertised up close.
Standing there and looking over the Pacific Ocean can give pause to make one feel grateful to be alive while vacationing or living in Northern California.
Sonoma County is north of Marin County and the south of Mendocino County. It is west of Napa County and Lake County.
In California’s Wine Country region, which also includes Napa, Mendocino, and Lake counties, Sonoma County is the largest producer.
It has thirteen approved American Viticultural Areas and more than 350 wineries.
Demonstrating their gratefulness, the voters have twice approved open space initiatives that have provided funding for public acquisition of natural areas, preserving forested areas, coastal habitat, and other open space.
What we loved about our stays in the region was the ability to truly escape the day to day grind and take pause to reflect, near a winery or by the quiet waters, where we were at in life, what is working, what is not and most important where we want to go.
Sometimes it encouraged us to hit the reset button.
“A grateful heart is a beginning of greatness. It is an expression of humility. It is a foundation for the development of such virtues as prayer, faith, courage, contentment, happiness, love, and well-being.”…James E. Faust
