Exceptional in salads, baked upon breads and masterful in Hors D’oeuvres; olives add spice to everything they partner with.
Including questionable partners.
“You gotta have good olive oil. You should have a cooking olive oil and you should have a finishing olive oil, like an extra-virgin olive oil.”…Emeril Lagasse
The timeless comedian Rodney Dangerfield whose catch phrase line was, I don’t get no respect once said, “I drink too much. The last time I gave a urine sample it had an olive in it.”
He also dead panned these quotes as well:
My wife and I were happy for twenty years. Then we met.
I looked up my family tree and found three dogs using it.
I could tell that my parents hated me. My bath toys were a toaster and a radio.
When an olive partners with Rodney Dangerfield even that works well.
What is this miracle food and health giant all about?
Olive oil is a fat obtained from the olive (the fruit of Olea europaea; family Oleaceae), a traditional tree crop of the Mediterranean Basin. The oil is produced by pressing whole olives and is commonly used in cooking, cosmetics, , and soaps, and as a fuel for traditional oil lamps.
Olive oil is used throughout the world and is often associated with Mediterranean countries.
The olive tree is native to the Mediterranean basin; wild olives were collected by Neolithic peoples (the later part of the Stone Age, when ground or polished stone weapons and implements prevailed.) as early as the 8th millennium BC.
The wild olive tree originated in Asia Minor or in ancient Greece.
Although Italy is a net importer of olive oil, producing 16 percent of the world’s production, Greece accounted for 11% of world production in 2013.
Major Italian producers are known as “Città dell’Olio”, “oil cities”; including Lucca, Florence and Siena, in Tuscany.
Australia now produces a substantial amount of olive oil. Many Australian producers only make premium oils, while a number of corporate growers operate groves of a million trees or more and produce oils for the general market. Australian olive oil is exported to Asia, Europe and the United States.
In North America, Italian and Spanish olive oils are the best-known, and top-quality extra-virgin olive oil from Italy, Spain, Portugal and Greece are sold at high prices, often in prestige packaging. A large part of U.S. olive oil imports come from Italy, Spain, and Turkey.
The United States produces olive oil in California, Arizona, and Texas.
“If my cuisine were to be defined by just one taste, it would be that of subtle, aromatic, extra-virgin olive oil.”… Alain Ducasse
Olive Oil In Your Beauty Routine?
by: Melissa Eaton
We all know that olive oil is wonderful and healthy for us to cook with, but what about its other uses? Truthfully, olive oil is another main ingredient in several beauty products you can buy on the shelf. See for yourself how you can make your own skin cocktails and save a little money at the same time.
- A mixture of 1/2 cup olive oil, 1/4 cup vinegar, & 1/4 cup water used as a night cream will make your skin glow. The olive oil softens and moisturizes and the vinegar lightens discolorations, kills bacteria and loosens dead skin cells. Splash water on your face before applying.
- Olive oil can be used as cleansing cream if your skin is dry.
- For a facial, wet face thoroughly, then massage olive oil into your skin. Use about a half teaspoon of sugar and scrub your face with that, then wipe off gently with a warm, wet cloth until the sugar is all gone.
- Use olive oil on your feet with clean white cotton socks. Helps to soften up your feet and it absorbs better than baby oil.
- It seems when you pour olive oil out there is always a drip, so wipe it up with your hand and rub it in to your elbows. Wonderful softening properties.
- Use olive oil as bath oil. Two to three tablespoons will do the trick.
- Use olive oil for your hair. Not only does it condition, but it also gets rid of the frizz. Put a small drop into your palm & then rub both hands together & apply it to dry hair.
Just a few of the many creative uses for olive oil in your skin care routine. Not only is it cheap, but it will go a lot further than most products you can buy. Have fun and be creative.
Thanks Melissa.
Another group can’t stop speaking about the wonders of olive oil and beauty. At the fantastic educational site md-health.com they suggest, “The best way to get your hair healthy and strong is by using a natural method to counteract the effects of any harsh chemicals. There are various ways to naturally maintain your hair, but one you may already have in your kitchen cabinet is olive oil.”
The benefits of using olive oil on stressed out hair strands are abundant.
- One of the most shocking benefits of olive oil is that it can prevent and even cure hair loss. When people lose hair, it is due to a hormone responsible for the shrinkage of the hair follicle shaft. However, the production of that hormone, called DHT (dihydrotestosterone), is hampered when olive oil is applied to the scalp.
- The overall health of the scalp also benefits from olive oil. A healthy scalp equates to healthy hair. And the natural conditioner properties of olive oil add moisture to the scalp: an area that people tend to neglect.
- Besides healing a scaly and dry scalp; olive oil makes hair soft and shiny. Take a look at the products in the hair care aisle at your local retailer: many of them now claim to contain olive oil. This is for good reasons.
- Olive oil also has antibacterial properties and antifungal properties that fight off common scalp and hair problems. Head lice and dandruff are two examples of conditions that can be either prevented or hampered by the application of olive oil to the scalp.
Much appreciated md-health.com.
Partnering with olive oil can make a beautiful women even more sensational and healthier.
