October 9, 2023,
Some people are visionaries.
They just are.
They appear to be ahead of their time. Ahead of their generation.
The sensational actress Kristen Bell appears to fall into that category.
Think about it.
Sometimes when we have a favorite actress playing in a television series or movie, we want to watch her right now.
The lovely actress Kristen Bell has affected us that way and millions of others as well.
Kristen Bell is an American actress who began her professional acting career by starring in stage productions while attending the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
In 2004, she appeared in the action thriller film Spartan and received critical praise for her performance in the television drama film Gracie’s Choice.
Ms. Bell garnered critical acclaim for her first major role as the title character in the teen noir drama television series Veronica Mars (2004–2007). For her performance, she was awarded a Saturn Award for Best Actress on Television. She reprised the eponymous role in the 2014 film continuation and the 2019 revival series.
In 2008, she had her breakout film role as the title character in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
There is much more.
She has since appeared in a number of comedy films, including Couples Retreat (2009), When in Rome (2010), You Again (2010), The Boss (2016), Bad Moms (2016), and A Bad Moms Christmas (2017). Bell garnered further recognition for voicing Princess Anna in the Disney animated films Frozen (2013), Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018), and Frozen II (2019), and the short films Frozen Fever (2015) and Olaf’s Frozen Adventure (2017).
Our favorite film on her resume was an off the beaten path emotional drama, The Lifeguard, where after leaving her job and relationship in New York city, she moves back to her home town and gets involved with a troubled young man.
When we researched her resume, it just goes on and on and on with theater, television and movie credits.
She even lent her voice to the CW series Gossip Girl: she voiced the title character in every episode of the series, appearing in person only for a surprise cameo in the final episode, portraying herself.
Okay, so she is popular and her fans want to know everything that is going on with her, right now.
Count us among them.
Part of our attraction is her role in one movie in particular that resonated with us.
Time for a closer focus.
The Lifeguard is a 2013 American drama produced, written, and directed by Liz W. Garcia, and starring Kristen Bell and David Lambert.
Here is the storyline.
Leigh London is a talented writer living in New York City with a job as a journalist and a relationship with her engaged boss.
At the beginning of the story, Leigh must accept the end of her love affair and is tasked with reporting the story of a tiger cub who was kept tied up as a pet in someone’s home until it died. To Leigh’s astonishment the piece isn’t run as serious news, and she breaks down, arguing with her boss and ex-lover.
Now entirely disillusioned with her life in the city, she decides to leave, without notifying her employer and returns to her hometown.
When she arrives at home, Leigh’s mother questions her sudden return, meanwhile her father is delighted to see her, especially after Leigh announces her decision to stay indefinitely.
Indefinitely? On her parent’s dime? That comes across as lazy.
Her mother really had a problem with it. So do we.
Leigh does eventually get a job. Hooray, right? Now according to mommy. Why?
Her job is being a lifeguard at the local pool.
Translation?
She’s under employed.
Now again, if she was doing that on her own dime, back in New York, that in our minds is being content. Do that in your parent’s home to supplement your new lifestyle; that could be described as being unambitious and lazy.
You see, when you are content on your own dime, why is it anyone else’s business to tell you how much you should or should not do?
Now remember, that means don’t go begging for a loan or money later from the person who feels you need to be more ambitious. Find funds own your own as well.
The situation gets worse when it comes to light that part of the reason Leigh loves her Lifeguard job is that she met a handsome young teenager and they become romantically involved. Nothing like reliving your teen years again with the guy you couldn’t get in high school.
If the teen was of age, that would be fine and dandy to be content with investing all of that money previously spent on a college education and decide sunning by the pool as a Lifeguard is an indefinite lifestyle you will keep. Oh, by the way, she and a few friends love to smoke some gentle weed too. Quite a bit. Like almost every day.
Sounds like fun.
As long as it is on your dime.
Great job Kristen.
Others are recognizing Kristen’s accomplishments and rewarding her for it.
Remember, Kristen is a visionary and ahead of her time.
