Working hard enough, long enough and making sacrifices in one industry gains you respect and often times a moniker or alias.
In the Independent Film industry a fantastic and sometimes quirky actress with what else, a somewhat quirky name, Parker Posey, has earned the moniker of Indie Queen due to her exceptional and continuous work in Independent Films.
One of this writer’s favorite Parker Posey films was Broken English.
Nora Wilder (Parker Posey), a single, career woman who works at a Manhattan boutique hotel where she excels in guest relations (once sleeping with one of them, now that’s customer service, no chocolate mint under the pillow needed) but is lacking in the romantic department.
If it is not her loving and dominant mother (Gena Rowlands) attempting to set her up that consistently fails, she has her friend’s (Drea de Matteo) disastrous blind dates to rely on as a backup to increase her depression and our laughter.
Then she meets a handsome Frenchman (Melvil Poupaud) at a friend’s party who seems to have graduated from IFT, the International Feminist Training School for dreamy guys.
Then the fun and quirky plot thickens.
Indie wrestler Sassy Stephie reminds me of Parker Posey.
“My philosophy towards life is to enjoy it to the fullest and have fun. I am one of those ‘laugh-out-loud’ kinds. I am quirky, yet witty.”… Bipasha Basu
First of all, they kind of look similar.
Okay, a little.
Okay, a very little.
Stephie sometimes dyes her hair purple.
Then there’s that quirky career.
What helped Stephie gain entry into a career as a lady pro wrestler, which, when you think about it, in itself is not exactly your standard career choice? I mean how many professional female wrestlers do you talk with by the office cooler every day?
We’ll give you four guesses as to her other part-time job.
- Beach Volley Ball Player.
- Hooter’s Waitress.
- Independent Film Actress
- Music DJ
We’ll since we’re opening with Parker Posey, you obviously thought Music DJ…… and you would be right!
“Quirky is what a guy would call a girl he doesn’t understand.”… Kat Dennings
The above quote is true. I don’t’ understand Parker or Stephie. I just like them a lot.
The true story goes that before an Indie wrestling event began, one of the announcers got a head ache and someone knew that Stephie was a DJ so why not give ring side announcing a try and the rest is history.
What a historical resume Stephie possesses. This aspect of Stephie’s career is rock solid.
She made her professional wrestling debut for Ohio Championship Wrestling (OCW) in March 2007, as part of the promotion’s first annual Ladies Night, and returned for Ladies Night Out 2 in March 2008.
She regularly performs for several independent promotions including Shimmer Women Athletes and Women Superstars Uncensored. She also competes for Absolute Intense Wrestling, and has appeared on several of their Girls Night Out events. She has also appeared for the Queens of Combat promotion.
Her online match history is voluminous.
At the informative industry site cagematch.net, one reviewer praises, “Underrated gem in wrestling, she’s an asset to any show she’s on. Always puts on a show and delivers in the ring. Great look, great talent, deserves more opportunities to show it.”
Another prominent industry site onlineworldofwrestling.com provides us with her powerful title history.
- PWR (Erie, PA) Women’s title [1st ever] defeating Nikkita Nightingale and AngelDust and XTC (October 2008);
- WSU (Women Superstars Uncensored) Spirit title defeating Brittney Savage (March 5, 2011);
- WSI (Women Superstars Uncensored) tag team titles defeating Luscious Latasha and Jana (March 3, 2012);
- Remix Pro Wrestling women’s title defeating Sara Del Ray (August 5, 2012);
- Remix Pro Wrestling women’s title defeating Cheerleader Melissa & Athena in a 3-way match (April 26, 2014);
Some interesting and unusual stats about our Akron, Ohio Indie Wrestling Queen is that she had wrestled in five different states her first year, a rare feat for a rookie wrestler. Stephie is one of only a few women to compete for ROH, SHIMMER, JAPW and Chikara in the span of a year.
As of this writing she works at UPS.
No, not the wrestling company. The mail and delivery group.
What is her quirky hobby?
“Nobody ever really thought of me as sexy, right? They thought of me as smart and quirky.”… Cynthia Nixon
Okay four guesses.
- Collects all shapes, sizes and colors of rubber ducks.
- Dresses up like Lady Gaga when she Dee Jays.
- Her back yard has over 100 Pink Flamingos.
- Has a collection of over 200 wrestling boots in her closet.
Ready? It’s number one. Truly.
Las Vegas and Chicago are two of her favorite cities to visit and vacation. Her other loves are music, photography and her cat.
Our beauty loves to travel so now, why don’t we burn rubber (Akron Tires – get it?) and travel to her hometown.
Akron is the fifth-largest city in Ohio.
It’s in the Great Lakes region approximately 39 miles south of Lake Erie.
As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 199,110. Akron is also part of the larger Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Combined Statistical Area, which in 2010 had a population of 3,515,646.
Residents of Akron are referred to as “Akronites“. Nicknames include “Rubber City”, “City of Invention” and “Rubber Capital of the World”.
The city site visitakron-summit.org warmly informs and welcomes us. “With a wonderful array of sites and attractions, accommodations and restaurants, meeting and convention facilities and countless recreational activities, Akron/Summit County should be your next destination for fun and excitement.
In Akron, they love the Cleveland Browns.
When you commune with nature, your daily stresses and strains will quickly fade. Explore the Cuyahoga Valley National Park (Ohio’s only national park and among the Top 10 Most Visited in the U.S.), featuring more than 33,000 acres to hike, bike, ski, sled and simply unwind. Metro Parks Serving Summit County offer 9,000 additional acres with 13 parks, 6 conservation areas and more than 120 miles of trails and 16 miles of the Ohio & Erie Towpath Trail.”

It sounds like Stephie was raised in a fun and natural environment.
Numerous dictionaries define sassy as someone or something that is lively, bold and a little feisty.
When Femcompetitor Magazine reviewed her matches, she is all of that. Sometimes she wins, often she loses but she always wrestles with some sauce and spice.
Luv the hair.
If her dream could come true, our gorgeous Stephie would love to wrestle professionally and make a good living at it.
Quirkiness aside, it’s nice to know that we and Stephie want the same thing.
