January 1, 2022,
What’s all the fuss about?
No, that is not the right question.
The real question is, shouldn’t there be more of a fuss about an incredibly great album?
We were crazy about it. An album filled with memorable hits.
Hot Fuss is the debut studio album by American rock band the Killers, released on June 7, 2004, in the United Kingdom and on June 15, 2004, in the United States.
The album is mostly influenced by new wave music and post-punk. Hot Fuss spawned four commercially and critically successful singles: “Mr. Brightside“, “Somebody Told Me“, “All These Things That I’ve Done” and “Smile Like You Mean It“.
The album reached number seven on the Billboard 200 and number one on the UK Albums Chart. As of December 2012, Hot Fuss had sold more than seven million copies worldwide, including more than three million in the United States and more than two million in the United Kingdom. It has also been certified platinum or multi-platinum in Australia, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. The album and its first three singles went on to garner five Grammy Award nominations.
Those were all great hits. Loved every one of them. What was our favorite? It’s not one of the incredible records above.
Our favorite is Believe Me Natalie.
For us, the beauty and spiritual strength and poetry of the song is that is appears to speak to transitions, seizing opportunities and last chances.
A common theme for us. The song says so.
“Believe me, Natalie, listen, Natalie
This is your last chance to find a go-go dance to disco now
Please believe me, Natalie, listen Natalie
This is your last chance to find a go-go dance to disco now
Forget what they said in SoHo, leave the “Oh, no”s out
And believe me, Natalie, listen Natalie
This is your last chance.”
Windows of opportunities.
Closing doors.
Transitions.
The Cosmopolitan hotel is going through a massive transition.
Very fitting that the Killers played there.
The Cosmopolitan was the setting for The Killers music video for “Shot at the Night“.
Last chances, new opportunities.
The headlines say so.
On September 27, 2021, reviewjournal.com reported a blockbuster. “The Blackstone Group is selling The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas in a $5.65 billion deal that will extend MGM Resorts International’s footprint along the Strip. MGM agreed to purchase the resort’s operations for $1.625 billion.”
The proud new owners are a family in themselves. The list includes the Cherng Family Trust, headed by Panda Express billionaires Andrew and Peggy Cherng, a real estate investment firm Stonepeak Partners and a Blackstone real estate fund, Real Estate Income Trust Inc.
Changes are in the hotel’s future.
The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas (commonly referred to simply as The Cosmopolitan or The Cosmo) is a luxury resort casino and hotel on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. The resort opened on December 15, 2010, and is located just south of the Bellagio on the west side of Las Vegas Boulevard.
It consists of two high-rise towers, the Boulevard Tower and the Chelsea Tower, both of which are 603 feet tall.
The $3.9 billion project features 3,027 rooms, a 110,000 sq. ft. casino, 300,000 sq. ft. of retail and restaurant space, a 40,000 sq. ft. spa and fitness facility, a 3,200-seat theater, and 150,000 sq. ft. of meeting and convention space.
In 2013, the hotel was rated “The Best Hotel in the World” by Gogobot. In 2015, the resort was named to the Condé Nast Traveller Gold List as one of the “Top Hotels in the World”.
Very impressive.
So what is it like to stay at this wonderland?
Cosmopolitan features 3,027 hotel rooms, many of which feature their own private terrace. Nothing like a room with a view up near the stars.
The Pools at the Cosmopolitan feature three different types: a relaxing pool, day club pool and nightclub pool.
Anyone for a swim?
The amenities are sure to improve. Why?
MGM Resorts, a massive presence on the Las Vegas Strip, will run the hotel complex.
MGM already owns 13 Las Vegas Boulevard properties, including the MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay and Delano Las Vegas and New York-New York, as well as the T-Mobile Arena and the Park retail promenade.
We truly loved our stay at the MGM. If there was ever a creative team who could improve the Cosmopolitan, it is MGM.
MGM Resorts International is an American global hospitality and entertainment company operating destination resorts in Las Vegas.
That’s just the starting place.
The organization also has properties in Massachusetts, Detroit, Mississippi, Maryland, and New Jersey, including Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, and Park MGM.
Always looking to expand, in January of 2019 the company took over Empire City Casino in Yonkers, New York, and also opened MGM National Harbor in Maryland and MGM Springfield in Massachusetts.
When it comes to Las Vegas continuing to grow and expand, now you can see what some of the fuss is about.
The team at Motley Fool (fool.com) adds, “Shares of gambling giant MGM Resorts (NYSE:MGM) jumped as much as 6.7% in trading on Wednesday as investors weighed the impact of DraftKings (NASDAQ:DKNG) potentially acquiring Entain (LSE:ENT). MGM’s online gambling business, BetMGM, is a 50-50 partnership with Entain, and MGM has to “consent” to any change in the structure of the business.”
We sensed when the NFL Raiders relocated to Las Vegas, there would be an up spiral of new deals and expansion. This appears to be just the beginning.
There is a futuristic dynamic stadium to prove it.
Allegiant Stadium is a domed stadium located in Paradise, Nevada, United States. It serves as the home stadium for the Las Vegas Raiders of the National Football League and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Rebels college football team.
This stadium has more to offer. Housing the Raiders is just the beginning.
Beginning in 2021, Allegiant Stadium will host the Las Vegas Bowl, which is moving from Sam Boyd Stadium, and will feature a team from the Pac-12 against a team from the SEC or Big Ten, alternating annually.
In July 2021, it was announced that Allegiant Stadium will host the East–West Shrine Bowl on February 3, 2022 as part of the NFL Pro Bowl week.
In March 2021, a new neutral site college football game dubbed the Vegas Kickoff Classic was announced. Administered by the Las Vegas Bowl, the game is a yearly neutral site college football game that takes place each September.
The inaugural edition featured the BYU Cougars defeating the Arizona Wildcats 24-16 on September 4, 2021. The official attendance of 54,541 fans was the largest crowd to ever watch a college football game (or any other college athletic event) in the history of the state of Nevada.
Do you see what we mean?
Can we send a message to Natalie, if she’s listening?
Our lovely disco star? Always remember something important about transitions.
When one door closes, many new ones open.
