There were signs, early on, that Marta Kostyuk could evolve into a very special and formidable tennis player. While she is not there yet, she is getting closer.
The global team at zeenews.india.com posted, “Young Ukraine tennis star Marta Kostyuk caused the first upset of the Australian Open 2023, sending No. 28 seed Amanda Anisimova of the US packing in the first round. Ranked No.61, the 20-year-old tallied the first upset of the tournament in 78 minutes, breaking Anisimova on each of the four break points she faced.”
We watched the match. She was incredible.
How far could she go in the first Grand Slam of the year?
She made it into the third round before she finally fell to America’s Jessica Pegula.
Femcompetitor Magazine was extremely impressed with Marta 2 years ago, when she gave Naomi Osaka, who was playing at championship form, a run for her money.

September of 2020 seems so long ago.
Naomi Osaka was at the top of her game.

Kostyuk upended No. 31 seed Anastasija Sevastova in the second round. She had absolutely nothing to lose in her first career confrontation against Osaka.”
After winning the first set, this is the time that Naomi typically solidifies but Marta kept hanging around so that she couldn’t. In between screaming to herself and yelling to her mother in the stands, the Ukrainian 18 year old power house kept matching Naomi point for point and game for game until she found herself ahead in the second set.
It was a set Marta would win in a tie breaker before succumbing in the third set but boy did she make history and get our attention.
That was her 2020 splash at the mighty US Open.
Today, she is currently ranked number 60 in the world.
Others in high places are noticing Marta’s accomplishments and wanted to partner with her.
