Like the variety of stars in the sky, courage comes in all sizes and forms.
The widely admired and globally impacting author George Orwell (1903 – 1950) – went to fight in the Spanish civil war because of his sympathies for the Republican movement. He also, gave up his privileged up bringing to work as a ‘down and out’ worker in Paris and London.
That was courage of conviction.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906 – 1945), a German Lutheran Pastor, was consistently outspoken in his criticism of Nazism in Germany. Preferring to stay in the country of his birth, he was eventually arrested and executed in Flossian concentration camp.
In our competitive women’s submission wrestling world there should always be admiration for a competitor smaller in form who is willing to engage much larger women, publicly in combat, risking injury and even humiliation.
TPC’s Lucy was such a wrestler who was small in weight and frame yet routinely agreed to grapple much larger women often finishing victorious. Her fortitude and determination was a snapshot of a profile in courage.

Lucy of TPC fame is one small package that makes the fans love bloom large.
We do not fall in love with the package of the person; we fall in love with the inside of a person.……..Anne Heche
During her pre match interviews, she always stood upright, wore a confident smile, packaged a well fit and feminine body and you knew she was ready to wage war.
Her TPC jousts included fiercely contested matches against Debbie, Vanessa B, Rose, Laura, Pam, Jilly, Susanne, and others.
Information about the package is as important as the package itself.……..Frederick W. Smith
The name Lucy is a Shakespearean baby name.
According the well-researched naming site sheknows.com, “People with this name have a deep inner desire to create and express themselves, often in public speaking, acting, writing or singing. They also yearn to have beauty around them in their home and work environment.
People with this name are excellent at analyzing, understanding, and learning. They tend to be mystics, philosophers, scholars, and teachers. Because they live so much in the mind, they tend to be quiet and introspective, and are usually introverts. When presented with issues, they will see the larger picture. Their solitary thoughtfulness and analysis of people and world events may make them seem aloof, and sometimes even melancholy.”
Lucy’s great memory can inspire melancholy.
Lucy’s matches were a testament to her fortitude. Against Jilly she was out weighed 110 to 135 lbs., yet she kept the hard charging regal brunette at bay using head locks and strong body scissors until she subdued the larger competitor.
She struggled against French veteran Laura, even bruising her lip but reassuring the producer that she wouldn’t cry. She’s one tough girl.
Against the German star Suzanne, they had a rough and tumble affair inside the famous room with the yellow mats once again proving that tough things can come in small packages.
Her signature match was against Pam from Mauritius.
Have you heard of this beautiful and very colorful country?
Before we fly there and take a sail boat around this majestic region home to many lush islands, we would be remiss not to mention that our star of the story Lucy is from the Midlands in England.
The Midlands is an area spanning central England that broadly corresponds to the early medieval Kingdom of Mercia. It borders South East England, South West England, Northern England, East Anglia and Wales. Its largest city is Birmingham, and it was an important location for the Industrial Revolution of the 18th and 19th centuries.
Interestingly, England and Mauritius have strong historical ties.
Mauritius, officially the Republic of Mauritius, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean about 2,000 kilometers (1,200 mi) off the southeast coast of the African continent. The country includes the island of Mauritius, Rodrigues (560 kilometers (350 mi) east), the islands of Agalega, and the archipelago of Saint Brandon.
The capital and largest city is Port Louis.
There are so many reasons to visit this beautiful paradise. The tourist site tourism-mauritius.mu waves an expansive fan, “Mauritius, a sparkling crystal in the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, will fascinate you. The contrast of colors, cultures and tastes makes the island so charming that the scene is set for an unforgettable holiday.
The island, with a surface area of 2,040 square kilometers, is located 20º south of the equator and 57.5º east. English is the official language, although French and Creole are commonly used. With a population of 1.2 million, the literacy rate hovers around 90%.
The north provides some fine beaches, a great range of accommodation and restaurants, world-class watersports facilities, wonderful shopping opportunities and entertainment.
The west and south-west is an adventure playground for nature and sports-lovers. Flic en Flac, with its white beaches fringed with Casuarinas trees, is a popular location for weekend beach activities such as swimming and snorkeling. Grande Rivière Noire and Tamarin were fishing villages that have been transformed with luxury villas and are now popular deep-sea finishing spots.
The south reveals a dramatically different landscape from the rest of the island: one typified by high cliffs – in places – that are battered by waves. These are created where the protective barrier of coral reef that surrounds Mauritius falls away on the seabed, so leaving the coastline exposed to a punishing Indian Ocean.”
It sounds like a great place to get away and write a novel.
According the enjoyable site mauritius.net, “Mauritius is a blend of diverse cultures and religions. The population consists of Hindus, Creole, Chinese, Muslims and Europeans.
Of volcanic origin and generally sheltered by barriers of coral reefs forming natural, safe, crystal clear lagoons, Mauritius has long been a dream destination.”
I’m sold. I understand how a beautiful maiden like Pam was created.
There is also one other very significant characteristic about Mauritius. On June1, 2015, as reported by timesofindia.indiatimes.com, “The government of Mauritius today designated Ameenah Gurib-Fakim as the Indian Ocean island nation’s new president, making her the first woman to hold the ceremonial position.
The opposition has said it will support her appointment, making the vote a mere formality.”
With that historical and global foundation, let’s revisit Lucy’s signature match against Pam.
Erotic, exotic, feminine, shapely, regal and confident describes Pam early on in the match. You sense that she took one look at Lucy’s smaller size, 110 pounds, and compared it to her 125 arsenal and was confident despite Lucy’s vast experience that she would defeat the Midlands Princess.
Lucy possessed the three Ps. She was polite, petite and powerful. There’s not one ounce of fat on her body.
As the two sensuous women began to engage, initially Pam was the aggressor, smiling and refusing to shake Lucy’s hand. Lucy quickly began to turn the tide with her superior skills. She would out maneuver Pam quickly securing a headlock or tripping the shapely Island maiden.
Thud.
Before you knew it, Pam was flat on her back on the ivory mats and Lucy would quickly sit on top of her. During the first two submissions, Pam kicked frantically trying to escape but after the third submission it was clear Lucy was going to dominate her often forcefully pushing Pam’s chin to secure the hold and Pam began to softly submit to Lucy’s will.
The producer would ask if Pam was okay and she would reassure him yes.
At one point the once defiant Pam couldn’t answer the bell and due to injury retired from the erotic fully competitive pins match.
Watching Pam sit in the chair afterwards, defeated and humbled, she looked more exotic and beautiful than ever.
I’ve learned that success comes in a very prickly package. Whether you choose to accept it or not is up to you.…………Sandra Bullock
Lucy was a champion in many ways. Most of her opponents were taller or larger yet Lucy often came out on top. She fought with an iron will and a smile. Our women’s wrestling history books will always remember TPC’s Lucy.
She was a big winner in the right package.
