Iona Grace is still young enough to propel a solid surge in the women’s wrestling world.
What’s in a name?
Many things really. That’s probably why some parents spend so much time researching, polling friends and debating on what the final name should be for their soon to be born.
Always end the name of your child with a vowel, so that when you yell the name will carry.…………Bill Cosby
Let’s try an experiment. Please don’t go by what you think you should feel. Don’t go by what you want to feel.
Go by how you actually really feel.
Iona Grace.
You don’t know who she is. You’ve never met her but with a soft name like that, don’t you want to hold her in your arms and nestle her close to you?
This writer would first meet Iona Grace of San Francisco at an Oakland East Bay small female wrestling event held in a beautiful well lit spacious Dojo. She had been asked to be a possible fill in; guaranteed a hundred bucks just to show so I’m told.
One of the matches in progress that day was an intense polite struggle between So. Cal pretty girl Samantha Grace and Bay Area rising star Audrey Rose. I quietly watched Iona as she sat unaware and seemingly uninterested reading a book.
She looked very cute and very young. This was back in 2012. I had heard of her but had not seen her much. She seemed to be a little annoyed that day so I was hoping she would meet up with Samantha in a bad feminine mood. Not to be.
I walked over to her to make small talk. The young beautiful models are always being hit upon so I was careful to present my best writer’s face even though I was salivating inside. She wouldn’t make eye contact.
I finally said hello and asked if she was Iona Grace. She replied yes. I continued that I barely recognized her. She paused and sighed, “Well I’m not wearing my makeup.”
What a cutie.
The website behindthename.com explains “Iona originates from the name of the island off Scotland where Saint Columba founded a monastery. The name of the island is Old Norse in origin, and apparently derives simply from ey meaning “island”.”
This is supported and confirmed by the site babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com which states, “Iona is the name of an island off the Scottish coast. Its name is derived from the Norse word “ey,” meaning “island.” The Gaelic name for the island is “Ì Chaluim Cille,” which means “St. Columba’s island.” St. Columba founded a monastery on the island in A.D. 563.”
She wears the Scottish, Irish look well often wrestling in green attire.
The FCI scouting report on her is that she tends to struggle against front runners and favorites virtually never pulling off an upset but will always give her best and competes hard up until match completion.
FCI has written about many San Francisco competitors thus since Iona has often wrestled in the San Jose area at a studio near Santa Clara, as we travel the world of competitive female grappling we will introduce you to this San Francisco-San Jose bay area suburb.

Character contributes to beauty. It fortifies a woman as her youth fades. A mode of conduct, a standard of courage, discipline, fortitude, and integrity can do a great deal to make a woman beautiful.……Jacqueline Bisset
I like Iona Grace a lot. Graceful is a fitting description because when you meet her and sense her self-control and sexy demeanor you can’t wait to see her compete.
This writer’s hope is that Iona continues to wrestle. Her quiet demeanor and youthful glow makes her an interesting case study. As of this writing it appears she is no more than 23 years old. So many competitors visit the sport and leave but with her porcelain beauty and growing skillsets, hopefully Iona will stick around.

A few female wrestlers sometimes participate in erotic sites. If you are offended by this, please do not research the competitors.
