March 29, 2025,
She made more money the previous year than she expected.
That is a wonderful thing, right?
In most ways, yes, except when it comes to tax time. She is really stressing out because she heavily invested in a CD and doesn’t have the cash on hand that she typically does. If the tax liability comes in monstrously high, she could have a problem.
What is an investor to do? Panic? Be consumed with fear? No.
Solve the problem.
Focus on that and that only. Don’t live in fear because half the time those fears don’t come true and you wasted so much time being afraid and stressed out over something that never eventually happened.
Once the problem is truly presented to you, begin to think of a combination of solutions, run it by family and friends or even a professional in that area.
A wonderful place to watch problems presented and solutions attained is the television and movie world. There, at least on the screen, the problems are very real.
The Night Agent is an American action thriller television series created by Shawn Ryan based on the novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk.
Starring Gabriel Basso in the title role, it premiered on Netflix on March 23, 2023.
The series emerged as the third-most-viewed debuting series on Netflix in its first four days, and within a week it was renewed for a second season.
We binged watched it and can understand why.
Within a month, it became the streaming service’s sixth-most-viewed series.
In October 2024, ahead of the second-season premiere, the series was renewed for a third season.
Here is the storyline.
FBI agent Peter Sutherland is thrown into a vast conspiracy about a mole at the highest levels of the United States government.
That is a massive secretive problem. Now for the solution.
To save the nation, he plunges into a desperate hunt for the traitor, while protecting former tech CEO Rose Larkin from the people who murdered her aunt and uncle.
What was a little different about it from the ususal spy, cloak and dagger predictable yarn is that it doesn’t make you yawn, because there are so many twists and turns and it is anything but predictable.
And yes, the problem is very real and it takes a team of people to solve it.
There are expected problems and unexpected ones. Which do you prefer to tackle?
It depends upon the magnitude.
Many have experienced job losses. That presents a massive magnitude of a problem. Sometimes, since regaining employment may seem out of your control, it can appear to be an insurmountable problem. Added factors are the pressure it puts on a marriage when a major income is gone.
Recent headlines are staggering.
On March 25, 2025, as shared on the major news and information outlet kqed.org, “California could lose nearly 140,000 jobs and see its economy shrink by close to $17 billion next year, far more than any other state, if congressional Republicans push through massive cuts to Medicaid and SNAP programs.”
Sounds comprehensively terrifying.
Now, on a national scale.
The highly respected news source Reuters.com speaks to that, “U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a 25% tariff on auto imports rippled throughout the world on Thursday, as global carmakers warned of immediate price hikes and dealers raised fears of job losses in big auto-exporting countries, many of which are U.S. allies.”
We can all see the problem coming. What can we do about it?
Perhaps it is time to walk over to the bookstore for some advice and suggestions.

The Layoff Journey From Dismissal to Discovery: Navigating the Stages of Grief After Job Loss Paperback – February 20, 2025
by Steve Jaffe (Author)
“A layoff isn’t just the loss of a paycheck; it’s the loss of stability, identity, and routine. It’s a deeply personal upheaval, one that triggers the same emotional responses as other major life transitions. In The Layoff Journey From Dismissal to Discovery: Navigating the Stages of Grief After a Job Loss, seasoned advertising and marketing executive Steve Jaffe—who has navigated the emotional and practical challenges of career transitions firsthand—guides readers through the seven stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance, reconstruction, and renewal. This book offers a roadmap to navigate the emotional terrain of job loss with clarity and purpose.
Drawing on personal stories, real-world examples, and actionable insights, Jaffe shares how the transformative power of intentionality can help readers reclaim control over their journey. Each chapter delves into a specific stage of grief, providing practical strategies for moving forward, whether it’s learning how to process feelings of inadequacy, harnessing anger to fuel action, or discovering your “why” to shape a meaningful next chapter.
Through relatable stories and helpful exercises, this book offers inspiration for reframing setbacks as opportunities for growth. Whether readers seek to rebuild their careers, pivot to a new path, or simply regain their footing, The Layoff Journey equips them with the tools to emerge stronger, more focused, and ready to thrive.
With a blend of empathy, encouragement, and empowerment, The Layoff Journey transforms what feels like an ending into an invitation to craft a new beginning—one shaped by resilience, self-reflection, and discovery.”
This seems to be worth a closer look if you think it might help your situation.
We can’t say that we know of someone who lost their present job and went on to a new one that was much better, but it does happen. Sometimes transitions to new industries can be very invigorating.
None the less, preparation ahead of time is vital.
One of the key areas of change, at least for the moment, will be budgeting.
What are the necessities and what is not? You may be surprised, as time goes on, how items and activities, once viewed as necessities, no longer are.
It is important to buy yourself some time. Make your money go a much longer distance. With research, change and upgraded applications, you might land in a better place.
So, when it comes to problems. Don’t let fear get in the way of your action plan.
Take steps.
Now.
