September 28, 2023,
It is not your imagination.
It may be an exaggeration.
All are not losing their heads around you, but in the world that we live in today, it may seem like it.
A couple of examples.
First, the modern day horror of human displacement and the refugee crisis.
The informative source concernusa.org educates, “In the past decade, the global refugee crisis has more than doubled in scope. In 2022, the UNHCR announced that we had surpassed the 100 million mark for total displacement, meaning that over 1.2% of the global population have been forced to leave their homes. Among these people are over 32.5 million refugees. 76% of those refugees come from just six countries.”
Where we are head quartered, there is a homeless crisis nearby.
It is truly a horrible way to live and many don’t live long.
Given how fast the glacial ice is melting, it makes one wonder how long humans have to exist.
That body mass of ice is so important.
Those massive ice sheets act like a protective cover over the Earth and our oceans. These bright white sheets reflect excess heat back into space and keep the planet cooler.
As they melt, our planet heats up.
The team at worldwildlife.org educate, “Since the early 1900s, many glaciers around the world have been rapidly melting. Human activities are at the root of this phenomenon. Specifically, since the industrial revolution, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions have raised temperatures, even higher in the poles, and as a result, glaciers are rapidly melting, calving off into the sea and retreating on land.”
Very frightening projection.
When you add in social issues, the break down in civility, over population, brutal wars, gun violence and more, it appears the world is increasingly becoming a dystopian place.
How does that affect you personally?
It can be depressing.
And yet, you have to keep your head about you and stay focused on what is important to you. What your purpose is. What your current life pursuit is. What pathway to happiness you must stay on.
Being focused means having and maintaining a clear vision of what is important to you, right now.
To be focused, you can’t allow distractions to cloud your thinking.
We often like to turn to television and film to help make our point.
This is a man that was completely focused.
Columbo is an American crime drama television series starring Peter Falk as Lieutenant Columbo, a homicide detective with the Los Angeles Police Department.
After two pilot episodes in 1968 and 1971, the show originally aired on NBC from 1971 to 1978 as one of the rotating programs of The NBC Mystery Movie.
And now for the focus.
Columbo is a shrewd and intelligent blue-collar homicide detective whose trademarks include his rumpled beige raincoat, unassuming demeanor, cigar, old Peugeot 403 car, love of chili con carne, and unseen wife (whom he mentions frequently).
Here is what really irritated the criminals.
He often leaves a room only to return with the catchphrase “Just one more thing” to ask a critical question.
If you are of a different generation, this is a series you should track down and stream.
As you might guess, many elements were tossed his way, to try and distract him from the truth and yet he stayed focused, followed the real clues, engaged in strong analysis and solved the crime.
What we really liked about the series was that it was not performed in a whimsical or extremely eccentric way, like seeing visions.
There was a very logical and rational approach used by Lieutenant Columbo, even though he himself was a little eccentric.
He stayed focus.
In our personal lives, focus is about being engaged with what you can control and not overly worry about things, though very important, that you can’t control.
We need more focus.
Let’s walk over to the bookstore.
