May 15, 2021,
Shifting sand may best describe a world where, what was once clearly bad, has now become debatable.
Sometimes bad in a cool way is good. That’s been sung about. Most times though, bad is just plain old bad.
Today there appears to be much confusion about what principles we should hold dear and yet we sense the human mind already knows the right answers despite how much others try and confuse the discussion.
Keep your word.
Be honest.
Tell the truth.
Try and have very high standards.
Give more than you receive.
It is better to be wronged than to wrong.
Stand up for what you believe in.
Don’t be deceptive.
Provide exceptional customer service.
Exercise self-control.
Listen with empathy.
Does the above expressions most likely or least likely describe the life that you live?
We know someone in our circle that has lost tremendous amounts of money because some of the people that she had known for years, even considered friends in a professional way, completely deceived her.
Their reasoning appears to be, if Natalie is foolish enough to allow that to happen, that’s her problem.
Is that Natalie’s problem?
If a friend of yours has a drinking problem and they are willing to pay your tab at a very expensive restaurant, all night, if you drink with them, would you accept the offer?
Many of Natalie’s so called friends, a mentor and family members would.
Agree with them?
We think not.
We know not.
One of the ways to have higher standards is to be aware from the beginning that you have to work on it. Don’t delude yourself that it comes naturally because you were raised right by your parents.
Perhaps another way to view higher standards and values that we should hold dear is to look back on some of the people that we admired because of what they did or what they stood for.
One of the actresses that we really loved was Marilyn Monroe. Her sex appeal was a major factor but in watching her films she seemed to symbolize honesty, freshness, no deception and maybe even a form of sweet innocence.
It didn’t appear to be an act.
It seemed to shine through in her movies and photographs.
Marilyn was born Norma Jeane Mortenson and shined in life from June 1, 1926 to August 4, 1962.
She was an iconic American actress famous for playing comedic “blonde bombshell” characters.
Our beauty became one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s and early 1960s and was emblematic of the era’s sexual revolution.
She was a top-billed actress for only a decade, but her films grossed $200 million (equivalent to $2 billion in 2019) by the time of her death in 1962.
As we can attest, long after her death, she continues to be a major icon of pop culture.
In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked Monroe sixth on its list of the greatest female screen legends from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
We always love to turn to film when we want additional support.
There are two television series that are emerging on the horizon where the heroines involved give us hope that people in high places still find high value in principles that we hold dear.
One of those principles is not to take advantage of the weak but instead to help them.
The Equalizer is an American crime drama television series that premiered on CBS on February 7, 2021. It is the second reboot in the franchise, following the 2014 film and its 2018 sequel and is a reboot of the 1980s series with the same name.
The series is co-created by executive producers Richard Lindheim, with Michael Sloan, and Queen Latifah, who also stars as the title character. John Davis, John Fox, Debra Martin Chase, Andrew Marlowe, and Terri Miller also serve as executive producers.
Mr. Lindheim died from heart failure on January 18, 2021 while working on the series. With appreciation, the series premiere is dedicated to his wonderful memory.
What we like about the series is that Queen Latifah actually seems to believe in the important principles of family, friendship, honor and helping those in desperate need who can’t call, as they say, 911 to get help.
It is a recurring theme.
Is she always good? Well, yes. Sometimes in a bad way. Rough way. But sometimes bad is good.
Here it makes her great.
Yes it is super heroine in some ways but for the most part it works.
In March 2021, the series was renewed for a second season.
We suggest that you watch.
Clarice is a 2021 American psychological horror crime drama police procedural television series created by Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet.
Produced by CBS Studios, MGM Television, and Secret Hideout, it is based on the best-selling novel The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris.
The series stars Rebecca Breeds as the main character.
The series premiered on February 11, 2021, on CBS.
Rebecca brings a strong sense of honesty to her role in her pursuit to protect the weak, here primarily women under great duress who cannot defend themselves. She does it with a very low key and persistent vigilance that makes it believable.
We feel her empathy.
We feel her personal tragedy.
It propels her to do the right thing in an entertaining way.
A mesmerizing, understated and penetrating way.
We hope the series renews.
The challenge in today’s world is the shifting sands that today’s belief systems are built upon.
We will always feel that the human mind knows the truth.
Our goal is to not let the negative values and behaviors of our modern times change ours.
Standing firm for what feels right is a life pathway quest.
There are many examples to look to, past and present, who seem to present the values we should hold dear.
It bears repeating.
Honesty.
Truth.
Self-control.
Helping and protecting the weak.
Marilyn Monroe was once quoted as expressing, “I am good, but not an angel. I do sin, but I am not the devil. I am just a small girl in a big world trying to find someone to love.”
Now that is about as honest as it gets.
