October 2, 2022,
Making the impossible into the possible is Dubai’s stellar trademark.
Just the fact that this incredible city exists is a testament to that.
Dubai is the most populated city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the capital of the Emirate of Dubai, the most populated of the 7 monarchies which together form the United Arab Emirates.
Established in the 18th century as a small fishing village, the city grew rapidly in the early 21st century with a focus on tourism and luxury, having the second most five-star hotels in the world, and the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa, which is over a half a mile tall.
On the eastern Arabian Peninsula on the coast of the Persian Gulf, it is also a major global transport hub for passengers and cargo.
Oil revenue helped accelerate the development of the city, which was already a major mercantile hub.
The city has a population of around 3.4 million (as of 2021).
Real estate sales are booming.
On September 30, 2022, as reported by gulfnews.com, “Dubai’s real estate market recorded a total of 9,720 sales transactions in August. The combined value of these sales was Dh24.34 billion, an increase of 69.57 per cent when compared to August last year.”
Amazing.
A center for regional and international trade since the early 20th century, Dubai’s economy relies on revenues from trade, tourism, aviation, real estate, and financial services.
In terms of re-inventing herself, oil production contributed less than 1 percent of the emirate’s GDP in 2018.
Re-inventing herself indeed.
People and organizations, world over, are amazed at what Dubai has to offer.
The global travelers at Lonely Planet exude, “It’s hard not to admire Dubai for its indefatigable verve, ambition and ability to dream up and realise projects that elsewhere would never get off the drawing board. This is a superlative-craving society that has birthed audaciously high buildings and palm-shaped islands. Sci-fi concepts such as flying taxis, a lightning-fast Hyperloop train and an army of robocops are all reflections of a mindset that fearlessly embraces the future.”
Dubai continues to look to the future.
A new tennis league is emerging.
The global information and business source Forbes Magazine reports, “Novak Djokovic, the 21-time Grand Slam champion, and three-time major winner Iga Swiatek will headline the inaugural World Tennis League in Dubai Dec. 19-24, organizers announced.”
The timing is perfect.
It comes at a time when most of the world’s top players are not competing during the holidays.
The format is intriguing.
The team at sportstar.thehindu.com explain, “The matches will be played in a two-set format across both singles and mixed doubles, with a 10-point tie-breaker deciding the winner of the final. A pool of 16 players will be divided into four teams, each having four players. The tournament will be played in a Round Robin format. The top two teams will then meet in the final.”
An innovative styled tournament. What else should we expect from Dubai?
Let’s take a closer look.
