August 25, 2020,
Sunny California weather is currently making the news for all of the wrong reasons.
In times past, when tourists think of California’s outdoor conditions, they dream of sunny warm afternoons in the 70s or 80s with beaches for all day tanning or lakes for jet skiing or boating.
Climate change has altered all of that. Hopefully not permanently.
As reported by The Los Angeles Times on August 14, 2020, “The heat wave that began Friday in California may rival the deadly seven-day heat event of July 2006, the National Weather Service said. Valleys in the Los Angeles region can expect highs of 100 to 108 degrees.”
Here in Northern California, we can attest to those scorching hot days.
In Sacramento, it was over 100 degrees, everyday, for at least a week without very little drop off at night. The humidity factor made it almost unbearable.
So, the massive fire outbreak was fairly predictable.
The global news source CNN adds, “More than 650 wildfires, many sparked by lightning, have burned more than 1.25 million acres in the Golden State since August 15. That’s more than six times the size of New York City. The fires have left seven people dead and more than 1,400 buildings destroyed.”
Did you know all of this already? If you did, you most likely watched it on The Weather Channel.
The Weather Channel (TWC) is an American pay television channel owned by the Weather Group, LLC, a subsidiary of Entertainment Studios.
The channel’s headquarters are in Atlanta, Georgia.
Launched on May 2, 1982, the channel broadcasts weather forecasts and weather-related news and analysis, along with documentaries and entertainment programming related to weather.
They have become so successful that their family expanded.
A sister network, Weatherscan, is a digital cable and satellite service that offers 24-hour automated local forecasts and radar imagery.
Given the unpredictable weather conditions flaring around the globe, this group is very busy and understandably, well watched.
Their parent group, Entertainment Studios is very female friendly and continuing to make news.
