May 7, 2021,
Full steam ahead.
Shouldn’t that be all of our life’s motto?
Whatever we do, we don’t want to prematurely run out of gas. Become a cliché. Live a life that so many in the pedestrian lane live.
Not remotely as good as the bike lane. Riding that pathway requires pedaling forward.
Constantly. Sometimes behind gorgeous women.
Lots of steam rising there.
The movies and television have taught us a lesson. The steam needs to keep rising.
How many times have you began watching a film or series and it has a very promising start and then goes completely flat within hours?
Plenty for us.
Here are two that come to mind.
A Teacher is an American drama television miniseries created by Hannah Fidell based on her film of the same name. The series stars Kate Mara and Nick Robinson. It is produced by FX and premiered on sister streaming service FX on Hulu on November 10, 2020.
Here is the storyline.
Set from 2013 to 2024, A Teacher focuses on Claire Wilson, an English teacher at the fictional Westerbrook high school in Austin, Texas, who engages in an illicit sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student, Eric Walker. The miniseries explores the complexities of the relationship and the consequences for both of them and those around them.
We watched the first episode and needed a break.
Now we didn’t say we needed to take a bath, but close.
So, we have a teacher who keeps accepting one invitation after another from a male teenage student to privately socialize with him, even lying to her husband regarding her whereabouts.
When we read the storyline, we wanted to sympathize with her. Why you ask?
Let’s face it. How many young males fantasize about getting it on with their gorgeous young teacher who quietly teases them with sexy and sometimes tight attire along with knowing looks blessed with tight smiles?
It is so many boy’s dreams. We know a few of them, now men, who were once boys.
We get it. Truly.
The sympathy would swell if the teacher involved is very young, single and very conflicted and makes every attempt to dismiss the advances of a hunky virile young male.
The challenge with the teacher here is that she behaves so sleazy right from the start, like stealing a makeup product from the retail store, that it hard to remotely sympathize or identify with her.
Oh, she also has a husband who seems to work hard and help support their cause. Her cause. Because. That’s what good husbands do.
She seems to have no problem cheating on him. When she is not doing that, she is fantasizing about her dream boy and demands that her husband make love to her right now. That is an order.
We can tell this one is going to end very badly.
Now if the film were based upon a true story we would give it some leeway.
Research indicates that it is not.
Hmm, so why so sleazy right from the beginning? Hard to identify with her unless you are a female predator who couldn’t attract the popular boys in high school and now you’re trying to recreate the past with a better storyline.
Even though some boys may love the mutual attraction the problem is sometimes the teacher has ulterior motives and way too much cunning experience, like wanting to have your child.
Are you ready to pay child support for the next two decades?
We will come back to this one because Kate Mara is a super skilled actress. Love her in the quiet thriller Morgan.
Right now we need a break.
There is steam rising but it doesn’t smell too good. Kind of like a sweaty boy’s locker room with a teacher sneaking around with her shoes off.
Kate’s project might pick up steam unlike Condor which seemed to run out of steam and bodies very quickly.
How can the steam rise if virtually all of the bodies are gone?
Condor is an American thriller television series based on the novel Six Days of the Condor by James Grady and its 1975 film adaptation Three Days of the Condor written by Lorenzo Semple Jr. and David Rayfiel.
Here is the storyline.
After a low-level CIA analyst returns from lunch to discover everyone in his office has been killed, he goes on the run trying to elude hit men and uncover the truth about who is behind the murders.
Lots of shadowy figures and emotionally detached killing machines here.
Please tell us that people like this don’t get organized and do these things in real life.
Since the days of the Condor movies and series keep dropping, originally from six to three, given that virtually all of the cast is murdered in the first two episodes of this installment, maybe they should rename this One Day of The Condor.
The series stars Max Irons.
Mr. Irons is known for his roles in Red Riding Hood, his first leading role in Bitter Harvest, The White Queen, The Host, Woman in Gold, The Riot Club, and The Wife.
The Condor series was created by Todd Katzberg, Jason Smilovic, and Ken Robinson and premiered on June 6, 2018 on Audience.
Apparently audiences liked it because the series had been renewed for a second season, although in January 2020, the studio announced it would be ending operations in its current format.
Not sure what that means. Doesn’t sound real good.
Will there be any original cast members left alive?
Since this puppy was renewed for a second season, we want to get a second opinion from someone who saw something that we didn’t.
The team at indiewire.com enlighten, “Jason Smilovic (“Lucky Number Slevin”) and Todd Katzberg’s “Condor” isn’t a “drop everything and subscribe to DirecTV” kind of show, but it is an engaging spy story suitably updated for modern times and slyly incorporating elements of the original film.”
Not a bad review but not exactly steamy hot either. When viewing this, we didn’t drop everything nor anything for that matter.
Please define engaging?
Okay, we will take a breath, duck for cover, buy a bullet proof vest, not trust anyone, anywhere and try and watch this one again with one eye towards the windows and doors.
We won’t take any trips to Washington D.C. where this one takes place because there are bullets flying everywhere.
Lots of people get their nice suits messed up.
It’s all about the steam.
We like to see the steam rise and keep building.
Like meeting a beautiful woman in a club and going home with her. Happens here in Condor.
Is she a nice girl?
It’s 2021, not 1951, so please define nice girl?
Well if nice girls take a knife and cut someone’s throat who talks too much, then you’ll like her tons.
A lot of steam will rise in bed with this raven haired babe.
Be careful though. If she is a One Day of The Condor kind of girl, you better not run out of steam in the sack because odds are you won’t finish the series erect.
Meaning upright of course.
