Is that the same beautiful girl?
She looks so different in her other photos. It’s hard to tell it’s the same person.
The fashion leader Vogue describes her as fashion’s reigning chameleon of choice.
Is that a good thing?
With the mesmerizing Edie Campbell, it’s a great thing, because no matter the style, no matter the look, this British Princess is gorgeous.
You know what? We need a bio on this girl.
Edie Campbell (born 25 September 1990) is an English model.
In 2016, she made her second appearance on the cover of British Vogue. She has been a model for Chanel, Burberry and Hermes and is also an accomplished horse rider.
Ms. Campbell started modelling after she appeared in a Vogue feature by Mario Testino, in a story about up and coming young Londoners.
She has appeared in advertising campaigns for Burberry, Cacharel, Christian Dior, Marc Jacobs, Bottega Veneta, Karl Lagerfeld, Lanvin, Alexander McQueen, Hugo Boss, Yves Saint Laurent, Jil Sander and Louis Vuitton.
Edie has walked the runway for prestigious fashion houses such as Burberry, Hermès, Chanel, Christian Dior, Calvin Klein, Balenciaga, Thakoon, Cacharel and Yves Saint Laurent, and has also been featured in fashion stories and cover shoots for publications such as Numero, Love Magazine, British Vogue, Italian Vogue, W and American Vogue.
In terms of print, in 2013 Edie graced the cover of both the April British Vogue and Vogue Italia, as well as the May cover of Vogue Italia, alongside fellow British model Karen Elson.
She was one of four covers of LOVE magazine’s Autumn/Winter 2013 issue. Campbell starred on the cover of the German Vogue in the same year.
In February 2014 Campbell graced four separate covers of Self Service magazine’s 20-year special issue, the Spring 2014 cover of i-D magazine and the April cover of Vogue Japan. She also appeared on the July and September 2014 covers of Vogue Italia.
“When virtue and modesty enlighten her charms, the luster of a beautiful woman is brighter than the stars of heaven, and the influence of her power it is in vain to resist.”… Akhenaton
Now that is quite a resume and given the plethora of publications involved and their different audiences, no wonder Edie presents more varied looks than the brightest chameleon.
Edie was named “Model of the Year” at the prestigious British Fashion Awards [BFA] in London, December 2013.
In terms of her personal life, Edie grew up in Westbourne Grove, London. Her mother is the architect Sophie Hicks. Her younger sister, Olympia, is also a model, and an actress. She is an accomplished jockey and is also a keen event rider and competes in dressage, showjumping and cross country.
So that is a great foundation for her past stellar accomplishments.
Her future is incredibly bright but it’s her present that really captured our attention when we saw the vibrantly dark commercial for Yves Saint Laurent fragrance, Black Opium.
Her performance captivated others as well. At the elegant publication glamourmagazine.co.uk, announcements are in order. On Friday, September 12, 2014 they share “Edie Campbell, who won Model of the Year at the 2013 British Fashion Awards, is the newest face of Yves Saint Laurent fragrance, Black Opium.”
They add, “A spokesperson for Yves Saint Laurent Beauté revealed why they chose the supermodel, “Edie embodies all the contemporary codes of the Yves Saint Laurent Beauté woman: elegant, cultivated, spirited, she is a model with attitude. She has become a beauty icon for a whole generation.”
That is a tremendous assessment and compliment.
In terms of Black Opium, what’s it all about Alfie?
Another major player in retail style sephora.com summarizes, “Black Opium is the new highly addictive feminine fragrance from Yves Saint Laurent. Fascinating and seductively intoxicating, the opening notes of adrenaline-rich coffee and the sweet sensuality of vanilla recline into the softness of white flowers for a modern, young, and vibrant interpretation of addiction. Get your dose.”
Sounds like a cool and stylish idea.
“The world is a complex place, and the influence of the media in its representation and its power of communication and interpretation is a remarkable amplifier of emotions, and of illusions.”… Tariq Ramadan
Remember the master and maker of this global fashion conglomerate, Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint-Laurent, August 1, 1936 – June 1, 2008), is famously known as Yves Saint Laurent.
He was a French fashion designer, and is regarded as one of the greatest names in fashion history.
In 1985, Caroline Rennolds Milbank wrote, “The most consistently celebrated and influential designer of the past twenty-five years, Yves Saint Laurent can be credited with both spurring the couture’s rise from its sixties ashes and with finally rendering ready-to-wear reputable.”
He was able to adapt his style to accommodate the changes in fashion during that period. He approached fashion in a different perspective by wanting women to look comfortable yet elegant at the same time. He is also credited with having introduced the tuxedo suit for women and was known for his ability to be very inclusive with models from all walks of life.
The brand continues to influence for reasons including their ability to spot and procure beautiful and talented cultural and generational influencers like Edie.
In an interview with Glamour Edie speaks to her love of the perfume. “My role is to embody the Black Opium woman – I suppose you have to be the living embodiment of all the intangible things the brand stands for.
Black Opium seems strangely familiar – It doesn’t seem alien or overpowering, it has a bit more subtlety which is nice. I like the unique contrast in combination between the bitterness of coffee bean and the sweetness of vanilla.
I am truly honored to become ambassadress for Yves Saint Laurent. The brand’s modern vision of beauty is very inspiring and I am particularly proud to represent such an audacious archetype of woman.”
“It takes tremendous discipline to control the influence, the power you have over other people’s lives.”… Clint Eastwood
We have been inspired as well.
Please live in the moment. Being entranced by Edie Campbell is poetry in constant motion. With her impressive chameleon style and her sweeping effect upon others, you never know who she’ll transform into next.
