Possessing a name with its roots in ancient royalty creates tremendous responsibilities to live up to; especially if you are a female.
DWW’s Andy is such a girl and as a female submission wrestler who plied her trade in the famous DWW compound, she didn’t disappoint.
ANDY (Left)
Here is how one reviewer praises her in one of her earliest matches. “Andy has so far had only one short match but she is excited about wrestling and we believe she is a talent, too. Jenny has had one match and she’s a real talent. Mixing them up in the garden was a quite good and exciting idea. They have a pins and submissions match. Although they’re novices they’re not only enthusiastic but they also display some surprising skills. This match is very close and if you like aggressive novices you’ll like it. We believe that these two will have a rivalry now and in the future.”
DWW Princess Lucille went on to have a great career. Here is the review when she met Andy. “This is another sgpins only match to a submission and it is probably one of the most one sided and most dominant matches we’ve filmed for a long time. Andy is a great fighter and she won a lot of her matches recently as she’s very strong. This time her opponent is athletic Lucille who’s a bit bigger and heavier than her but less skilled.
Will Andy be able to teach the newcomer a lesson on how to apply a decent sgpin or will Lucille use her chance to show her fans how good she already is? If you don’t mind one sided matches with extremely long and most humiliating front and reverse sgpins and even some face sits as the dominant woman seems to enjoy punishing her weaker opponent, then this is probably the right match for you to choose!”
It is time to speak to Andy’s name.
The expansive naming site sheknows.com explains, “In English the meaning of the name Andy is: Brave; Manly. Famous Bearer: Prince Andrew.”
They continue, “People with this name have a deep inner desire to use their abilities in leadership, and to have personal independence. They would rather focus on large, important issues, and delegate the details.
People with this name are competent, practical, and often obtain great power and wealth. They tend to be successful in business and commercial affairs, and are able to achieve great material dreams. Because they often focus so strongly on business and achievement, they may neglect their private lives and relationships.”
Very intriguing.
So, when you are of royalty, when it comes to many of your endeavors, what do you do?
You keep it in the family.
It appears that Andy and her sister Rene had a lot of pent up aggression towards one another and decided to find a release on the DWW mats of warfare. Here is how one of the leaders describes the unique matchup.
“When the weather again turns cold and we look back at the great DWW wrestling memories from Summer 2007, one of the best will be this outstanding match between two very competitive sisters, Rene and Andy.
As the catalog description accurately states, this match gives both wrestlers the opportunity to release the “sister tensions” that appear to have built up over the years. There is no doubt in my mind that this is NOT the first time these sisters have wrestled each other! Both Andy and Rene have the classic DWW “girl next door” looks.
They also are very athletic, especially Rene. Although they are about the same height, Andy has a weight advantage. On the other hand, Rene is extremely quick, and she will use it to her advantage.
Both of these novices show very good wrestling skills. Give credit to their coach, DWW star Tiffany, whom you will see and hear throughout the match. Although this match is pins and submissions, the fans of submission-style will be much more pleased.
The intensity of this match begins in the first 30 seconds and includes one of the roughest “throw down” takedowns I have ever seen. The wrestler who did the throwing immediately sets up a body scissors in her attempt to get a quick submission. Whenever a schoolgirl pin is applied, the sisters stare right into each other’s eyes. The sister on bottom will do anything she can to avoid being pinned. It also appears that the wrestler caught in a submission hold will try to avoid submitting for as long as possible. That is a tribute to their competitiveness and their pride.
Finally, both sisters bring some unbelievably intense (and sometimes very funny) trash talk to this match. Accusations of choking, biting, and pinching are used a few times when one wrestler has to submit. Of course, her sister denies using any of those techniques. And can there be anything more insulting than to have your sister call you a “truck of fat”??!!
This is one of the most tension-filled and entertaining matches I have ever seen.”
Sounds like fun!
We learn so much if we allow the female wrestling stars to lend us insight into the communities that they came from. Since Andy wrestled in the Austria area and her name speaks to royalty, have you ever understood anything about Austrian royalty?
If you are like me, this is the first time that I have had any glimpse of it. It’s fascinating and rich with history.
The House of Habsburg, also called House of Austria, was one of the most important royal houses of Europe. The throne of the Holy Roman Empire was continuously occupied by the Habsburgs between 1438 and 1740.
The house also produced emperors and kings of the Kingdom of Bohemia, Kingdom of England (Jure uxoris King), Kingdom of France (Queen consort), Kingdom of Germany, Kingdom of Hungary, Empire of Russia, Kingdom of Croatia, Second Mexican Empire, Kingdom of Ireland (Jure uxoris King), Kingdom of Portugal, and Habsburg Spain, as well as rulers of several Dutch and Italian principalities.
A series of dynastic marriages enabled the family to vastly expand its domains, to include Burgundy, Spain and its colonial empire, Bohemia, Hungary, and other territories into the inheritance. In the 16th century; the family separated into the senior Habsburg Spain and the junior Habsburg Monarchy branches, who settled their mutual claims in the Oñate treaty.
The Austrian nobility is a status group in Austria. The nobility was officially abolished in 1919 after the fall of Austria-Hungary. The nobles are still part of Austrian society today, but they no longer retain any specific privileges. Austria’s system of nobility was very similar to Germany’s system, as both countries were previously part of the Holy Roman Empire (962-1806).
Thank you Wikipedia.
Based upon that, you can imagine the shockwaves throughout Europe as this news item appeared back in 2011.
The New York Times reported, “Otto von Hapsburg, the onetime heir to the imperial throne of Austria-Hungary, who during a long career in European politics was a strong proponent of unifying the divided continent, died Monday at his home in Pöcking, Germany. He was 98.
Otto was the eldest son of Charles I, the last emperor of Austria-Hungary, who ruled for just under two years, until the end of World War I also brought an end to his multiethnic empire in the heart of Europe and sent the family into exile.
Otto did not, however, fit the part of the exiled would-be monarch waiting for his throne to be restored. He remained deeply involved in the turbulent events of the last century, opposing the Nazi annexation of Austria and later serving two decades as a member of the European Parliament.”
They also relate that Otto tried to return to Austria in 1938 to fight the Anschluss. Because of his staunch opposition to Hitler, he spent most of World War II, from 1940 to 1944, in the United States. He returned to Europe and lived in France.
The global news source independent.co.uk speaks to perhaps what was one of his greatest accomplishments in trying to unify Europe. “Fluent in seven languages, Habsburg proved a talented debater, but it appeared that his raison d’être was political union, bridging the East-West division and the eastward expansion of the EU to countries once ruled by his ancestors. His presidency of the International Pan-European Union, from 1973-2004, gave him a platform from which to further the cause.”
When you read various sources, you absorb a strong sense of admiration for a man of wealth that could have played it close to the vest and go along with the wave of power to protect his assets and status but instead put everything at risk to fight fascism and communism.
When you study history, you realize how unusual and exceptional that was and is.
This is one of the aspects of watching the DWW wrestlers like Andy and their group that I greatly admired. You had girls from Germany, Hungary, The Czech Republic, France, Belgium, Russia, Ukraine and other countries competing together in a great spirit of comradery, cooperation and sportsmanship.
We certainly can learn much from the great global sport of female submission wrestling if we are simply willing to.
