When you’ve tasted victory and seldom defeat; when others are awed by your power and often retreat; when you feel the pulse of the fans, with adoration complete; this powerful sports composite makes it very hard to retire from that theater.
Statuesque, strong, sexy and bright, DWW’s Anastasia had a fantastic Danube wrestling career and fortunately for us fans, she continues going strong to this day at Fighting Dolls.
A large apartment floor of her resume speaks to the common exceptional experience that the average DWW gladiator competed through. She wrestled Emanuella, Pamela, Eva N, Mel, Gloria, Miriam, Luna, Antonia, Lucille, Anita P, Mary Ann, Miriam, Denise, Yvonne, Patricia and others.
She prevailed in some fantastic finishes but her signature win was when she defeated a competitor 10-0.
She also garnered the expected praise from reviewers, fans and the DWW management that spoke to her grappling prowess. Here is one that can be purchased at dwwgalaxy.com.
“Both Emanuella and Anastasia are competitive sports women and both of them have very strong legs. In this match there is a little bit more than just female pride at stake. Not only do they represent themselves in front of their fans and in front of a critical audience but they do also represent their respective sports. Do the female alpine skiing racers have stronger legs than the female ice skaters? Who is the stronger athlete? This match will give you an answer.
There are awesome scissors, body press pins and particularly headlocks in an evenly matched wrestling match presenting seven breathtaking submissions split between both very hard moaning and groaning female athletes.
I think this is the best match of the year. Both girls are athletic and attractive. Really enjoy that they are equally matched and try very hard to win and do not give up easily. Fans of long headlocks and body scissors will enjoy the match. In my opinion the athletic and fit girls are the best looking and also seem to have the best matches.”
Research indicated that at one point, Anastasia took a break and gave birth to a child. FCI would like to congratulate Anastasia on being a mother and having the courage to keep competing and not take an early retirement.
“I’m never tired of winning, and I’m never tired of skiing”.……..Lindsey Vonn
This brings us to Anastasia’s other sport of choice, downhill skiing.
In a sport that has captivated audiences around the world through the Olympics and movie goers appreciating film, it is fitting that an intense competitor like Anastasia would excel at this sport too.
The elite DWW group wrestled by the mighty Danube River and when we look at the top ten list of female downhill racers of all time, it’s no surprise that some of the best come from Austria and Germany with its national passion for sports and the picturesque mountains that populate park like Austria.
It’s a testament that women can accomplish whatever they want.
The energetic site welove2ski.com shares a few stories with us. Katja Seizinger of Germany won the gold in the Downhill at both Lillehammer and Nagano where she also won gold in the Combined. She also picked up bronze in the Super-G at Albertville and bronze in the GS at Nagano.
Hanni Wenzel won bronze in the Slalom at Innsbruck in 1976 and followed up with gold in Slalom and GS at Lake Placid, as well as silver in the Downhill.
Rosi Mittermaier from Germany won gold medals in the Downhill and Slalom at Innsbruck in 1976, as well as silver in the GS.
Two Austrians made a name for themselves as well.
Michaela Dorfmeister won silver at Super-G in Nagano and then double gold in Downhill and Super-G at Turin. At 33, shortly before her retirement, she was the oldest competitor to win a World Cup. Annemarie Moser-Proell won two silvers at Sapporo and then a glorious gold in the Downhill at Lake Placid.
It was in film that the sport gained a global spotlight when the legendary Robert Redford played an emotionally detached Olympian in a documentary styled masterpiece named Downhill Racer.
More important was the point of the film and an understanding why an intense competitor like Anastasia would be attracted to the elite DWW wrestling group and the dangers of the downhill life.
In film, sports so often have back stories, romantic conflicts and life obstacles to be overcome. The reviewer at tcm.com, Turner Movie Classics nails it on the head. “Salter and Redford use Downhill Racer to tell the truth that movies never admit: after all the sentiment about sportsmanship, competition is all about winning and nothing else.”
When Anastasia wrestled, she often took a take no prisoner’s attitude which made watching her matches all the more exciting. I enjoyed how she continually became the master of the school girl pin.
Here is another DWW review.
“This is a wrestling match for those of you who enjoy two muscular and strong sports ladies and one sided matches. There are cruel scissors and some dominating pins and you’ll see a lot of both submissions and pins. One woman is heavily struggling and trying hard to win, but the other woman is just too much for her.”
Poor Yvonne didn’t stand a chance.
When you are considered part of the new Czech generation, given so many great female wrestlers of the past who notched numerous victories, the pressure to meet expectations can be great. Anastasia did that and more.
Her career at DWW primarily spanned from 2007-2011. With those beautiful muscular legs, groomed in the snow and the exceptional training from one of the greatest female wrestling tribes that ever existed, if medals were awarded at DWW tournaments: Gold, Silver or Bronze; at least once, Anastasia would have won them all.
