March 10, 2022,
In some circles, if a person is described this way, they are brilliant.
In other circles, artistic and weird. You know how these artist types are.
Yes, we do.
They are creative. Very much so.
How do you view people described as creative?
When students are on a pathway to college and the job market, they are often instructed to be practical so they can get in to a great college and a normal job afterwards.
If you pursue a creative pathway in college, you may not get a real job afterwards.
So we’ve heard.
We don’t know for sure, that is true.
The earth, we are told, was created.
Great ideas start with a creative mind.
Like the online world.
Once viewed as a creative and hard to understand endeavor, now better understood, the Internet is making one person after another, a millionaire, without a college degree in sight.
Why have they been so successful? It is because they are creative.
What does it mean to be creative?
Most dictionaries define creative as relating to or involving the imagination of original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work.
That’s what we thought.
The team at psychologytoday.com expands, “Creativity encompasses the ability to discover new and original ideas, connections, and solutions to problems. It’s a part of our drive as humans—fostering resilience, sparking joy, and providing opportunities for self-actualization.”
Let’s keep going.
What is self-actualization?
Self-actualization, in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, is the highest level of psychological development, where personal potential is fully realized after basic bodily and ego needs have been fulfilled.
Stated another way, your basic needs of food, water, clothing, shelter and a comfortable safe place to sleep are met.
As much as you may not think so, given the volatile state of the world, those needs above, for millions, are huge.
And unmet.
On June 23, 2021, as reported by the United Nations Refugee Agency unhcr.org, “1.47 million refugees will be in need of resettlement next year. This is according to the latest estimates released by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, in its Projected Global Resettlement Needs 2022 report issued today.
As a result of the pandemic, many of those displaced are now faced with increased poverty, destitution and widespread protection risks, from exploitation, trafficking, sexual and gender-based violence, child labor, early marriage, to arrest, detention, deportation, and perhaps the worst, refoulement.”
Refoulment is the act of forcing a refugee or asylum seeker to return to a country or territory where he or she is likely to face persecution.
So, you escaped monsters, but now, you’re forced to return right back into their evil waiting arms.
Last year, fewer than 35,000 refugees out of 20.7 million, smaller than one percent, were resettled.
Well, if you ever feel depressed that your needs are not being met, perhaps think again.
So, hopefully you are living in a stable society and your basic survival needs are being met.
What is next?
You inch closer to self-actualization.
Time to put on your thinking cap and absorb.
Maslow defined self-actualization to be self-fulfillment, namely the tendency for him (you) as an individual to become actualized in what, she or he, is potentially.
Refined, to get closer to your potential.
Time to pause.
What we are gleaning and trying to emphasis is that self-actualization is about self.
We say this because so often in film, when a character, one emotionally struggling, says to their new love, “You make me whole”, that is not a piece of the self-actualization pie.
Others are not a part of the equation.
You have to make yourself whole. Otherwise, if they decide to end the relationship, which often happens, where are you then?
The operative word in self-actualization is “self”.
It is your taking steps to become everything that you are capable of becoming.
He used the term to describe a desire, not a driving force.
Maslow did not feel that self-actualization determined one’s life, rather, he felt that it gave the individual a desire, or motivation to achieve budding ambitions.
Which brings us to our point on creativity and creative people.
They have a much greater chance of reaching and being very satisfied, for the moment, with self-actualization.
He also contends that self-actualizers are highly creative, psychologically robust individuals.
What has led us to have this meeting of the minds with you is that our associates at Grappling Stars and FCI Women’s Wrestling, have focused many of their articles on Social Media Influencers and Fitness Super Stars, who in both categories, are making millions and live a life that only Movie Stars, decades ago did.
The intriguing part about so many of their stories is that, a college education is not required, as so many of us were programmed to believe when we were young. That traditional pathway does indeed have an important place, but it is absolutely not for everyone.
Creative Thinkers have found that out early on.
There are so many young people, primarily beautiful fit women, even if they are not making millions, are making a very good living on YouTube and Instagram.
Most important, as Maslow indicated, they are achieving their budding ambitions. Most of their vehicles are initially self-driven, even if they build a team later.
Why are they so successful? Many reasons. Here is one basic one.
While many were content to follow what they have been told to do (because of lack of courage) because after all, if they go counter to what their family, friends and society have told them to do, they run the risk of being heavily ostracized or forced out of their primary group, if they fail.
The “I told you so” naysayers will have a field day.
Always remember that naysayers are people who were too frightened to pursue their dreams themselves, got slapped down by life, most likely once, and quit.
Then they behaved like good little sheep and got back in line.
For a pedestrian life.
The Influencers tend to be people who take a massive unconventional risk for what they are excited about.
Notice we didn’t say love, because their product has not remotely evolved in the beginning, so they really don’t know what they love, because when you think about it, the product doesn’t exist yet.
The budding super star involved just knows that they have foregone the traditional way because they were certain the traditional way would not only make them unhappy, it would not remotely propel them to self-actualization.
The successful influencers, many with no college degrees, have found a form of self-actualization (marriage not necessary) that is propelling them to reach their potential.
With an entourage of makeup artists, nail polishers, dining menu cooks, personal photographers, drivers and whatever you desire to make your day easier, they are absolutely enjoying the creative journey they are on to self-actualization.
Why not you?
After all, it is about self. So why not?
As we said in the beginning, in some circles if a person is described this way (creative), they are brilliant.
Based upon our article research?
We absolutely agree.
