April 29, 2021,
Don’t worry, it’s meant to be a compliment.
No, really. Truly.
Some women think so and others probably not.
If you market your product with it for a name, good, bad or in between, the world will remember you.
How they remember you might be another thing.
Bombshell just says so much.
The term bombshell is a forerunner to the term “sex symbol” and was originally used to describe popular female sex icons.
So today, would you like to be known as a sex symbol?
Or would you just prefer the term sexy?
In modern usage, bombshell refers to a very attractive woman. The Online Etymology Dictionary by Douglas Harper attests the usage of the term in this meaning since 1942, and in the meaning of “shattering or devastating thing or event” since 1860.
Appreciate the historical clarity.
The original Bombshell movie is a 1933 American pre-Code romantic comedy-drama film directed by Victor Fleming starring Jean Harlow, Lee Tracy, Frank Morgan, C. Aubrey Smith, Mary Forbes, and Franchot Tone.
The film is based on the unproduced play of the same name by Caroline Francke and Mack Crane, and was adapted for the screen by John Lee Mahin and Jules Furthman.
Here is the story. Movie star Lola Burns (Jean Harlow) is angry with her studio publicist E. J. “Space” Hanlon (Lee Tracy), who feeds the press with endless stories about her greatness. Lola’s family and staff are another cause of distress for her, as everybody is always trying to take money from the actress.
All Ms. Burns really wants is to live a normal life and prove to the public that she’s not a sexy vamp, but a proper lady.
She wants to be loved for her brains and not her beauty. Can she be loved for both?
We think that she can. We love her for both.
As you might guess, cinematic history tends to repeat itself. Different story but same name.
And more complicated.
Today’s Bombshell is a 2019 American biographical drama film directed by Jay Roach and written by Charles Randolph.
The film stars Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, and Margot Robbie, and is based upon the accounts of the women at Fox News who set out to expose CEO Roger Ailes for sexual harassment.
Actors John Lithgow, Kate McKinnon, Connie Britton, Malcolm McDowell, and Allison Janney appear in supporting roles.
The project was first announced in May 2017 following Mr. Ailes’s death, with Roach confirmed as director the following year. Much of the cast joined that summer and filming began in October 2018 in Los Angeles.
At the 92nd Academy Awards, it earned three nominations: Best Actress (Theron), Best Supporting Actress (Robbie), and Best Makeup and Hairstyling, winning the latter.
As far as the story goes, it is involved and well, complicated.
Roger Ailes heads Fox News, the real-life cable television network. The film focuses on newscasters Megyn Kelly, Gretchen Carlson and composite character Kayla Pospisil. Kelly is one of the network’s most popular newscasters and is to co-moderate the 2016 Republican debate. The day of the debate, sick and throwing up, she nevertheless questions Donald Trump on comments he has made about women.
In retaliation, he tweets insults about her, and others follow suit.
One paparazzo stalks Kelly’s family outside her home to photograph her children, prompting Kelly’s husband, Douglas, to kick the intruder out. Fox then hires a security detail for Kelly. Ailes fears someone poisoned her the day of the debate.
Ms. Carlson is removed as co-anchor of the popular Fox and Friends and is transferred to a less popular show. Inundated by sexist comments on and off the air, she meets with lawyers who tell her how Rudi Bakhtiar was fired after refusing Ailes’s sexual advances.
They plan to file a harassment suit against Ailes but tell Carlson she will need evidence and testimony from other women.
Is there more?
Of course there is but as we said earlier, it’s complicated. There are far more bombs than blondes.
Maybe we should move away from film.
Stay with bombshell of course but move towards something a little more straightforward, sexy and active.
Bombshell Sportswear produces some very sexy active wear for blondes, brunettes, redheads and other gorgeous women across the spectrum.
Word on the sexy street is their apparel is designed in-house and made exclusively in the USA*, each piece is uniquely engineered for high performance, with technical cuts, sumptuous fabrics, and second-skin technology for weightlessness and wear ability.

Like everything, the phrasing Bombshell has changed with the times.
Here the more things change, the more they, well, change.
Significantly.
The definition of Bombshell is now in the eyes of the beholder. In active wear, Bombshell is a clear sexy winner.
In terms of the public and on film, like virtually everything in 2020, the term bombshell is a little more complicated.
