November 23, 2023,
Fashion is a world that many of us would love to understand but fully do not.
To some, they could care less about the fashion designer’s name as long as the price is right and the fabric is durable.
They probably shop about once or twice a year.
Sometimes grudgingly.
For a massive amount of others, they are captivated by fashion news, read the updates, look for inside scoops and can’t wait to make their fashion decisions based upon that.
They shop all the time.
Brick and mortar and of course extensively online.
So, for those of us who are interested in the excitement of the fashion industry, from a distance, it’s time to get a little educated. Take a closer look.
Here we go.
The two main seasons are Spring-Summer and Autumn-Winter.
These fashion pieces are always shown at Fashion Week in London, Milan, New York, and Paris.
The big four.
The Spring and Summer collections start in January and extend to around June.
Fall and Winter runs from July to December.
Which is where we are at right now.
In watching television, we have heard the terms fashion collections often used, we have a general idea of what that entails but now, during the Holiday Season, we desire a closer look.
The team at audaces.com provides us with some insight, “A fashion collection is like a carefully chosen group of clothes and accessories that all fit together. They’re usually connected by a specific idea or style that matches what the brand stands for and what the people who might buy these clothes like.”
Understood.
And we actually do understand the concept better.
They also explain that typically a fashion collection must have at least 12 pieces.
Again, typically, but it is not a hard fast rule.
Smaller fashion collections usually consist of eight pieces.
Garments produced by clothing manufacturers fall into three main categories, although these may be split up into additional, different types: Haute couture, Ready-to-wear and Mass market.
The goal is to design clothes that are functional as well as aesthetically pleasing.
Until the 1950s, fashion clothing was predominately designed and manufactured on a made-to-measure or haute couture basis (French for high-sewing), with each garment being created for a specific client.
A couture garment is made to order for an individual customer, and is usually made from high-quality, expensive fabric, sewn with extreme attention to detail and finish, often using time-consuming, hand-executed techniques.
Ready-to-wear, or prêt-à-porter, clothes are a cross between haute couture and mass market. They are not made for individual customers, but great care is taken in the choice and cut of the fabric. Clothes are made in small quantities to guarantee exclusivity, so they are rather expensive. Ready-to-wear collections are usually presented by fashion houses each season during a period known as Fashion Week.
We learned this by continually watching the First Family of fashion, the Kardashians.
In terms of sales, the informative group at confiz.com educate, “Traditionally, the best months for retail sales include November and December, largely due to the holiday season. The period from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day witnesses a surge in consumer spending as individuals shop for gifts, decorations, and holiday-related items.”
Based upon that info, we are in the heart of the fashion sales season.
So, as you might imagine, we got a little excited when we heard about a special fashion collection coming to QVC by a very special legendary designer.
Check it out.
