We’ve electronically traveled to Montreal before in particular but perhaps we can broaden our horizons and experience the historical province of Quebec.
Quebec is a province in east–central Canada.
It is the only Canadian province that has a predominantly French–speaking population, and the only one to have French as its sole provincial official language.
Quebec City is the most European of any city in North America; they speak French all the time. There is a part of town called Old Quebec which is really like being in France. The architecture is just gorgeous, food, shopping. I’d say Quebec City is the most beautiful city in North America I’ve seen.…..Sebastian Bach
Quebec is Canada’s second most populous province, after Ontario. Most inhabitants live in urban areas near the Saint Lawrence River between Montreal and Quebec City, the capital.
Quebec independence debates have played a large role in the politics of the province. Parti Québécois governments held referendums on sovereignty in 1980 and 1995; both were voted down by voters, the latter defeated by a very narrow margin.
In 2006, the House of Commons of Canada passed a symbolic motion recognizing the “Québécois as a nation within a united Canada.”
In a time period where the value of fresh water is becoming of supreme importance, here is an interesting fact about Quebec.
Quebec has one of the world’s largest reserves of fresh water, occupying 12% of its surface.
It has 3% of the world’s renewable fresh water, whereas it has only 0.1% of its population.
Please place this in perspective. It also has more than half a million lakes, including 30 with an area greater than 250 square kilometers and 4,500 rivers.
Out here in the arid west, California, Nevada (especially drought ravaged Las Vegas) and Arizona, we would love to have a portion of that fresh aqua gold.
The globally respected information source that documents our world National Geographic educates, “Often called a bit of Old Europe on American soil, Quebec is the only walled city north of Mexico. The legendary French explorer Samuel de Champlain founded Quebec early in the 17th century, and the ramparts, gates, and other fortifications that subsequently surrounded the city serve as a rock-solid reminder of its role in the colonial wars for control of the Americas. The city was the capital of New France until 1760, after which time it centered the new British colony before becoming part of an independent Canada.”
Ready to get your walking shoes?
The exciting travel site lonelyplanet.com suggests, “Founded in 1608, Québec City is North America’s oldest walled city and the cradle of French civilization in the New World. It’s also a walker’s dream: compact, picturesque and brimming with European charm.”
The enticing travel site frommers.com loves to walk and encourages you to do so I Quebec as well. “The many pleasures of walking in picturesque French Québec are easily comparable to walking in similar quartiers in northern European cities. Stone houses rub shoulders with each other, carriage wheels creak behind muscular horses, sunlight filters through leafy canopies, drinkers and diners lounge in sidewalk cafes, childish shrieks of laughter echo down cobblestone streets. Not common to other cities, however, is the bewitching vista of river and mountains that the higher elevations bestow.”
Cynicism lost and hope won. For the first time, the government of Quebec will be led by a woman.…..Pauline Marois
When we travel we love to eat and as you can guess there are endless eateries in this great city and province but in the interest of time and space we’ll pick two.
Charbon Bar & Grill
Located in Québec’s historic train station, Charbon stands out because most locals justifiably consider it among Québec City’s elite steakhouses. A favorite of area business-types and politicians, this classy steak house specializes in preparing meat using traditional Canadian methods — that is, cooked on maple charcoal, thus giving it a distinctive flavor.
The ownership smiles, “Charbon, Coal steakhouse restaurant welcomes you with a sublime bathroom, ceilings 30 feet high, unique architecture and a flaming décor lend the hotel a unique character. To make your meal more enjoyable comfortable bench seating from 4 to 15 people spread along the walls lining the room. Coal unique and authentic steakhouse.”
House specialties include fish filets, seafood and, of course, North American beef. (418-522-0133)
VooDoo Grill
This African-themed restaurant, located in the heart of the Grand-Allée’s hip nightlife scene, offers an exotic alternative to the Euro-bistros spread out across the city. Voodoo, which is part of the popular Chez Maurice complex, boasts themed décor, soft lighting and the hypnotic beat of congas in the background, making you feel as though you’ve truly gone to the Dark Continent. Try the chef’s special mixed grille, which includes shrimp, duck breast and filet mignon, or the Asian-style tuna steak with fresh vegetable sides. (418-647-2000)
Sounds yummy.
If you decide to contact Bella, it should be an extremely enjoyable experience in wrestling and living large. We just scratched the surface of Bella and historical Quebec. It’s a large part of what we love about our female submission wrestling industry. It fascinates and educates us on a global scale.
Bella is a fun, sexy, shapely girl who along with Montreal and Quebec should be on your to do list.
