May 5, 2022,
It is a job description that keeps getting up dated.
Brand Ambassadors were not invented with the popularity of the online world.
They functioned a little differently in the past but they still did their job effectively.
And still do. Sell their sponsor’s brand.
Elegant Cheryl Tiegs was one of them.
Ms. Tiegs was the first model to appear twice on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, but she significantly raised her profile in 1978, when she posed in a fishnet swimsuit.
Cheryl additionally made the cover of People four times, and did three covers for Time, most notably for the “All-American Model” cover story in 1978.
A year later, she was signed to a reported $1.5 million two-year contract with Cover Girl cosmetics, then the biggest contract ever.
The magazines and tabloids were the Social Media outlets decades ago.
Things are different now.
A Brand Ambassador is a person employed by an organization or company to represent its brand in a positive light, helping to increase brand awareness and sales.
Though they are employed, it is more like contracted with, since today’s Brand Ambassadors and Influencers are not employees but have their own brand and platform.
The brand ambassador is meant to embody the corporate identity in appearance, demeanor, values and ethics. The key element of brand ambassadors is their ability to use promotional strategies that will strengthen the customer-product-service relationship, influence a large audience to buy and consume more.
Predominantly, a brand ambassador is known as a positive spokesperson, an opinion leader or a community influencer, appointed as an internal or external agent to boost product or service sales and create brand awareness.
Today, “brand ambassador” as a term has expanded beyond celebrity branding to self-branding or personal brand management. Professional figures, such as good-will and non-profit ambassadors, promotional models, testimonials and brand advocates have formed as an extension of the same concept, taking into account the requirements of every company.
A little extensive, but makes sense.
They are so powerful that they literally can make a retailer’s clothing line sell out within hours of being presented to the public.
As an example, New York Influencer Danielle Bernstein did Macy’s proud.
In March 2020, Ms. Bernstein launched a namesake brand exclusively at Macy’s called Danielle Bernstein.
The debut spring collection was all priced under $100 and had a size range of 00–24, becoming Ms. Bernstein’s first size-inclusive line.
Along with the launch, Ms. Bernstein had a campaign shoot modeled by real-life followers, featuring women with different body shapes and types so that anyone could see themselves wearing the line.
Drum roll please.
The first collection sold $1 million in the first 2 hours, and $2 million after 24 hours.
If you are a retailer, how would you like to get results like that?
Campus ambassadors are college students who spread the word about the company that they represent.
The goal of campus ambassadors is to help the company with marketing programs on campus to target the college demographic. This can be achieved by throwing events, hosting workshops, and utilizing social media to promote the brand or company.
College campus brand ambassadors not only can market products or services through either events, workshops or social media. They can market through what others may say is more affective and better for the long run, which is marketing by word of mouth.
Which brings us back to those celebrities.
Many Brand Ambassador of Social Media Influencers make a great living simply by building up their number of YouTube subscribers and Instagram followers and have strong personal media contact with them.
For a while, many of us wondered if Social Media Brand Ambassadors were effective, especially when brick and mortar retailers were closing in frightening numbers.
That was then.
This is now.
As reported by retailgazette.co.uk, “The influencer-led fashion retailer In The Style has said its revenue came in just ahead of guidance with growth of 28% to £57.3 million in its first full year as a public company. In the 12 months to 31 March, the retailer’s sales were up 197% on two years ago.”
From their view, part of what is propelling this surge is the company’s continuing efforts to build on its successful social-influencer business model by working with the likes of Jac Jossa, Lorna Luxe, Perrie Sian, Gemma Atkinson and Stacey Solomon.
That’s really good to know.
Let’s take a look at Macy’s once more.
As shared by lowellsun.com, “In 2019, Macy’s store credit card revenue of $771 million accounted for more than half of Macy’s operating income.”
Though some question the ethics of credit card use, revenue wise, after being down for some time, it is good to see Macy’s move upward and onward.
On November 18, 2021, the global news and information leader cnbc.com adds, “Macy’s on Thursday reported fiscal third-quarter earnings and sales that topped analysts’ expectations, leading the department store chain to raise its full-year forecast ahead of the holidays.”
We move up the timeline.
On April 20, 2022, the team at defenseworld.net posted, “Analysts expect Macy’s, Inc. (NYSE:M – Get Rating) to announce sales of $5.35 billion for the current fiscal quarter, Zacks Investment Research reports.”
They add that according to Zacks investment services, analysts expect that Macy’s will report full year sales of $24.63 billion for the current fiscal year, with estimates ranging from $24.53 billion to $24.70 billion.
It is so good to see Macy’s making a comeback. We truly love their products and have purchased there often.
So who is a Social Media Influencer you might want to keep your eye on?
How about yourself?
There are myriads of companies looking to partner with Brand Ambassadors to raise profits.
Do you love fashion? Have you ever thought about blogging about the subject, focusing on the styles that you love?
Even creating your own style.
Try imagining you building your own Instagram, YouTube and other Social Media platforms. If others can do it, why not you.

And richer.
