August 30, 2020,
Reserves are highly desired.
Especially after a full day at the office and afterwards a trip to the gym.
Energy.
We love having deep reserves. It is as though you can never have enough of it. Especially when it is from a natural source.
Given our daily activities, the extensiveness of it all can leave us feeling run down and tired.
We could use an energy boost.
If you’ve watched a number of professional tennis matches and zoomed in closer during the changeover, to boost their energy a number of players turn to one bright yellow fruit for a boost of sustained energy.
They love their bananas.
“I’ve long thought that for my last meal on earth I will be perfectly happy with a granary loaf toastie with melted crunchy peanut butter and banana.”… Tamsin Greig
A banana is an edible fruit, botanically speaking, a berry, produced by several kinds of large herbaceous flowering plants .
In some countries, bananas used for cooking may be called “plantains”, distinguishing them from dessert bananas.
The fruits grow in clusters hanging from the top of the plant.
We are glad they are readily available in most super markets.
According to the informative team at healthline.com, “Bananas may be one of the best foods for energy. They are an excellent source of carbohydrates, potassium and vitamin B6, all of which can help boost energy levels in your body. One study showed that eating a banana before a 75-km cycling trial was as efficient as a carbohydrate drink for improving the performance of endurance athletes.”
That is so good to know.
Another informative source healthyeating.sfgate.com concurs, “A banana’s combination of complex carbohydrates, natural sugar, amino acids and brain-boosting minerals make it a beneficial food for athletes and fitness enthusiasts. With 3.5 grams of fiber and 1.5 grams of protein, it can also help ward off hunger for longer periods than foods with refined carbohydrates.”
We can see that bananas are an exceptional healthy food along with being a wonderful source of energy.
Variety is the spice of life and fantastic it is when we can incorporate bananas with some of our favorite foods to form a wholesome dessert.
Can’t say enough about how we love banana pudding. When fixed properly it goes down so smoothly.
Banana pudding is a dessert generally consisting of layers of sweet vanilla flavored custard, cookies (usually Vanilla Wafers or ladyfingers) and sliced fresh bananas placed in a dish and served, topped with whipped cream or meringue.
It is commonly associated with US Cuisine, however, it can be found around the world.
Furthermore, it closely resembles an English Trifle in that it is assembled in layers and includes custard, fruit, sponge cake, and whipped cream.
Banana pudding can be prepared using a baked or refrigerated method, with the latter being the more popular, particularly among home cooks. Moreover, many recipes have been adapted using vanilla or banana pudding instead of a true custard.
Understandably you might research the best sweeteners for your banana pudding that is best for your health.
A banana cream pie is a type of pie filled with a rich custard or pudding that is made from milk, cream, sugar, wheat flour, and eggs.
One feature of most cream pies is a whipped cream topping. The custard filling is related to crème patissière, a key component of French cakes and tarts. It is a one-crust pie, meaning the crust covers the bottoms and sides but not the top. The crust may be a standard pie crust made with flour cookies or Graham cracker crust for savory pies.
Have you ever tried one? You really should. Make sure your version of the banana cream pie has plenty of bananas.
Now, from pie to cake.
We turn to the legendary Betty Crocker team at bettycrocker.com for a taste of Banana Upside Down Cake. They warmly smile, “Everyone will go bananas for this upside-down dessert! Even better than the dessert itself: The recipe makes two cakes, which means you get seconds.

Ready for our favorite?
Banana bread is a type of bread made from mashed bananas.
It is often a moist, sweet, cake-like quick bread; however there are some banana bread recipes that are traditional-style raised breads.
Banana bread first became a standard feature of American cookbooks with the popularization of baking soda and baking powder in the 1930s. It appeared in Pillsbury‘s 1933 Balanced Recipes cookbook, and later gained more acceptance with the release of the original Chiquita Banana’s Recipe Book in 1950.
National Banana Bread day is February 23rd. Mark your calendar for that one.
Some food historians believe banana bread was a byproduct of the Great Depression as resourceful housewives did not wish to throw away overripe bananas as they were still a costly item to purchase.
A close cousin is Banana Cake.
Instead of regular flour, banana cake is made with a soft, wheat flour, which ultimately means banana cake contains less gluten than banana bread. Another difference in the ingredients is that banana bread is usually made with baking powder, while banana cake is made using yeast.
They both taste fabulous.
If you move from the plate to the glass, banana smoothies and banana shakes go great with your main meal. We really wanted to say hamburgers but maybe you would say veggie burgers. That’s fine. Those delicious banana drinks would taste great with both.
“Home-made smoothies are a great way of satisfying a sweet tooth. Adding in things like frozen banana will make it taste super sweet and creamy.”…Ella Woodward
There are so many ways that you can enjoy the banana, the perfect energy food.
When you need that energy boost, you can infuse yourself with the tasty banana, partnered in many tasty forms.
