Marcus Aurelius, one of ancient Rome’s most powerful rulers reigning from 161 to 180 was quoted as saying, “Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth.”
Yes truth may be difficult to find, but time does have a way of placing things in perspective, taking us by the hand and guiding us closer to truth.
In 2006, when the group Fighting Style held its second female wrestling event off the scenic coast of Greece, their largest and arguably most successful extravaganza; at the time you knew it was good. The tournament brought together at least 20 gorgeous female wrestlers from all over the globe. In an action packed span of over four days which included matches fought in various settings from the beach, to the grass and in the ring to name a few, some of the most memorable competitions in women’s wrestling history unfolded.
If this were a story and every tale should have a star, of the girls not as widely known, Artemis of Germany was clearly the bright princess.
That is saying a lot.
Besides boasting the presence of established stars like the Americans Lia Labowe, Sybil Starr, Nikki Fierce and Ivy; the two year production including the Belin Expo also featured Canadians Neko and Mutiny. Truly a global event, the Germans Karine, Zhara and Khati (Swiss) were present along with the British maidens Lucretia, Kirsty, Megan and Emma.
Some of the newer girls that caught everyone’s fancy were the blonde beauty Isabella, the sexy and extremely tough Nadine, Hera, Melina, Iris, Maia, Carina, Asteria, Dapne, Selene and more.
Blessed with sweet girl next door looks, a shapely trim physique and warrior tattoos, what made Artemis such a fan favorite is that she fought in so many matches while scoring many victories along the way.
I loved her fighting style where she often started with the left arm extended and the right in crouch, ready to spring.
She also had a nice eclectic sense of style. Her bikinis would display beautiful pink, electric lime green, elegant white and vibrant red.
She fought Iris and Melina on the beach, to the sound of the wind and crashing waves, beautiful Isabella on the grass and Maia in the ring.
I would say her signatures fights were at night with her toughest opponents in Nadine and Lia. Both matches proved to be a little overwhelming where with Lia she was brought to tears, lay flat and beaten on the mats then raised up with sympathetic hugs from the Bostonian.
In my opinion it was a study in cultural differences. Though beaten, an American would rarely let you know it, never want sympathy or a hug and instead would desire competitive revenge. That was my behavior and experience watching others in the elite high school sports world. With Artemis, she was so sweet and honest that it was hard not to admire the purity of it all, even in defeat.
Her appeal was universal as one of the producers, Femwin had this to say about her. “Artemis wrestled for the first time ever at our Greek Goddesses tournament in October 2005, however, she already knew how to fight having trained in kickboxing and because she’s a police officer in Germany. A very fit and strong girl, Artemis certainly looked very impressive before her matches as she warmed-up by doing high kicks. No doubt some of her opponents were intimidated!”
Her name is enshrined in mythology.
According to the respected sight, greekmythology.com, “Artemis was the goddess of chastity, virginity, the hunt, the moon, and the natural environment. She was the daughter of Zeus and Leto, twin sister of Apollo. She was born on the island of Ortygia (Delos), where Leto had found shelter after being hunted by the lawful wife of Zeus, Hera.
As soon as Artemis was born, she helped her mother give birth to her twin brother, thereby becoming the protector of childbirth and labor. She asked her father to grant her eternal chastity and virginity, and never gave in to any potential lovers; devoted to hunting and nature, she rejected marriage and love.”
Our German maiden’s life as a police office in Germany is clearly different than it would be in America. There is an interesting read found at http://rt.com/usa/us-germany-85-shots-022/.
“Eighty-five shots: That’s the total number of bullets German police used in all of 2011, Der Spiegel reports. But what does it say when US cops use as much ammo to bring down one man as German cops need to keep the peace nationwide?
The rate at which German police discharged their firearms is further underscored by how rarely they shot with fatal intent. Of the 85 bullets used in 2011, 49 were warnings shots, 36 were aimed at criminal suspects, 15 people were injured, and 6 were killed, the German daily continues.”
It goes on to relate a disturbing trend where the shots fired from US officers on suspects, one without a gun, were 41, 84, 90 and 100 with the summation that the United States police have essentially become a militia.
Often the attraction to policing in Germany is that it pays well, offers lifetime employment and a very low violent experience.
The power of women’s wrestling is that it takes us all over the globe and when we fly with our eyes and mind open, there is much to learn.
Perspective gives us the ability to accurately contrast the large with the small, and the important with the less important. Without it we are lost in a world where all ideas, news, and information look the same. We cannot differentiate, we cannot prioritize, and we cannot make good choices.….John Sununu
Time has brought into perspective the uniqueness of those Fighting Style tournaments. They were varied, memorable and intense in one of the most scenic and beautiful women’s wrestling venues ever.
Some of the magic is expressed by another one of the producers named Jeff. “Make no mistake, nothing that FightingStyle does is fake. Although we filmed several different types of matches and in five different settings, there is one thing we can guarantee about each and every match you will see on this website. It was done FOR REAL. The girls are fighting to win every time. Nothing is scripted and nothing is pre-arranged. At FightingStyle the girls actually wrestle.”
As a fan, I agree.
What makes the tournament even more cherished and sad is that for many of the newer competitors it was both their coming out and retirement party. So many, like the Nordic beauty Isabella, we rarely saw before or after. It was like they acted out their parts well in a majestic film, complete with a sequel, packed up and went home and got swallowed up by the world.
It’s nice to revisit their memories in general and reminisce about Artemis in high definition.
When a women’s wrestling event is produced with scenic creativity, cooperation, hard work and quality; time has a way of placing its significance and uniqueness in perspective.

Some may find other women’s wrestling sites erotic in nature. If you are offended by depictions of women wrestling in erotic situations, please exercise caution in visiting women’s wrestling sites.
