Simplicity makes understanding of goals and ideas much easier to say yes to.
A confused mind almost always says no. Even if you are having a conversation with yourself.
Please, not out loud, in front of a group of others.
In the privacy of your thoughts have you ascertained that you are pursing the right important life goals?
If not, please transition out of the just existing phase into the defining goal phase.
An associate of our once asked a beautiful woman in her thirties what she loves in life and she couldn’t answer her question. Why is that an important question?
In terms of determining life goals, that is an important starting place.
What do you love in this life? Even if it is a hobby or in a “change the world” sort of way, idealistic.
One beautiful classic American actress that seemed to exemplify a young woman caught in life goal pursuit confusion was the late Sandy Dennis.
Sandy Dennis (April 27, 1937 – March 2, 1992) made her film debut in the drama Splendor in the Grass (1961). For her performance in the comedy-drama film Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966), she received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Dennis appeared in the films The Three Sisters (1966), Up the Down Staircase (1967), That Cold Day in the Park (1969), The Out-of-Towners (1970), God Told Me To (1976), The Four Seasons (1981), Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean (1982), and Another Woman (1988).
Her final film appearance came in the crime drama film The Indian Runner (1991).
Ms. Dennis Dennis was a well-renowned animal activist. She rescued stray cats from the bowels of Grand Central Terminal. At the time of her death in Westport, CT, she lived with more than 20 cats, who were adopted out by longtime friends to new homes.
Now that is being idealist. Not only was sweet Sandy trying to change the world, but save it also, one kitty cat at a time.
The film the Sandy brilliantly starred in that speaks to wondering if you are chasing the right dream is Up The Down Staircase.
The 1967 drama’s title is a reference to the staircases inside a public, overcrowded New York City high school of 3,000 students, many of whom are troubled and disadvantaged; a few are gang members.
What time period does that remind you of?
Here is the storyline.
Sylvia Barrett, fresh out of graduate school, has just been hired to teach English but is disheartened by the school’s burdensome regulations, daily reporting and other paperwork. Her students are often disruptive and undisciplined.
Once our idealist teacher meets her dream, will it become a nightmare or will she be successful in affecting change?
Very well-done film.
That is the challenge with pursuing dreams.
You have this vision and, let’s be honest, sometimes extremely naïve view of how things are going to go, since you’ve never done it before and then reality sets in.
Many of us can use some help in knowing if our dream is right for us and we have a visiting female writer who has an incredible website buildmindpower.com and some nice suggestions on how we can chase the dream that is right for us.
The author, Dr. Jill Ammon-Wexler, is a doctor of psychology, pioneer brain/mind researcher, and advisor to numerous top executives and executive teams from around the world.
The author of over 25 books and hundreds of articles, she is also the co-founder of buildmindpower.com, and the Creative Director of the Self Discovery Community.
Please enjoy.
Are You Chasing the Right Dream?
The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind.
~~ William James, famed psychologist Achieving certain dreams often requires FAR LESS WORK than achieving other, seemingly easier goals. Why is that so?
Because it is much, much harder to work for a goal we do not passionately desire. But when you manage to get yourself focused on what is naturally of passionate interest to you your work becomes play.
Are Your Goals a Good Fit?
Hopefully you’ve invested some thought clarifying your life goals and you know exactly what you want. So why not take a few minutes to ask yourself an important question am I pursuing the right goal for ME?
Here’s why that is so important: You’ll never really achieve your true potential as long as you pour your energy into something that doesn’t really fit your true passions and interests! Does that seem too simple?
Think about that for a moment. It’s unfortunately very easy to automatically adopt someone else’s goal. We were trained to do that very thing as children.
Ninty-nine percent of us were fully expected to achieve the goals our parents and educational system set out for us. Some of us gave in and tried to do so. Some of us rebelled and learned to fail instead. And some of us felt somehow inadequate because we did not have the natural interest and or aptitude to do what we were expected to do.
If you find you never seem to achieve your goals, you may be setting goals you don’t really desire or believe in for yourself.
This is never going to lead to success. What it will lead to is one false start after another and a tendency to want to quit after the first bump in the road.
This is a major dead-end, and will do nothing but gradually erode your self-confidence.
Ask Yourself This…
You need to be sure your goal really is YOUR goal for YOUR life. If you feel resistance, take a serious look at that. Ask yourself who you might really be setting that goal for?
Then ask yourself if you really have a burning passion for that goal, and are willing to butt heads with as many so-called failures as necessary to achieve it.
If your answer is no this may be a good time to revisit your goal setting exercise.
Selecting an Appropriate Goal
Three things will happen if you make the effort to refocus yourself around a goal that is more in keeping with your natural talents and passions:
First,
you will be happier, less stressed, and far more productive.
Second,
you will be far more likely to hang in as you hit those jarring bumps in the road.
And third, there is a higher probability you will achieve a level of excellence at what you’re doing. This increases your value thereby increasing your potential for increased return on your efforts.
So put your goal to the test. Does it truly measure up to your innermost desires?
Achieve it.
The secrets of goal achievement are actually quite clear cut:
Have burning passion for what is desired,
Set a clear and exact goal to get it,
Make an absolute commitment to achieve the goal,
Be willing to pay the price for achieving it, and
Commit to focused action, focused action and more focused action.
