Was 1993 really over twenty years ago?
When we were there, it seemed like it would last forever. In the women’s submission wrestling world, with the introduction of the beautiful, blonde, shapely London beauty, Anne Marie, we wished it would.
With so many gorgeous female wrestlers to choose from, we all have our favorites. Over in the TPC wrestling stable there were plenty to savor. Luna was an Italian goddess. Kelly Blair was a curvy, elegant masterpiece. Angela Scott was beauty with fury. Lisa Marie stood tall and wrestled taller, virtually defeating everyone with Kiwi style. The list of TPC sexy girls is endless.
One girl that stood out for me was Anne Marie. She deserves a tribute.

Though she did not wrestle long and took a break here and there, when she did wrestle, her matches were to die for.
Her grappling resume includes matches against Carmen, Angela Scott, Luna, Sonja Vanderbeck, Ruby Leigh and Lisa Marie. Her interviews tended to be low key, flirtatious, subtle and sexy.
Anne Marie Loved London
The match she was most famous for was when she wrestled a strong young woman named Carmen. I remember salivating thinking that I could get at least 15 minutes of Anne in struggle but when I read the printed sales promotion Phil, the owner, made it clear that it would be a short match. Given how Anne looked, I ordered it snail mail anyway.
A part of me was hoping that it would be a misprint and last longer, but it didn’t. It started out well enough with an introduction of Anne in her bomber styled jacket and our London beauty flashing a subtle grin. Once the match started Carmen quickly had her down on the mats enforcing a school girl pin and though she struggled, it was clear early on that she was no match for Carmen’s power and rough approach.
The challenge in wrestling a newer wrestler like Carmen who has the physical prowess to dominate is that unless they know how to distribute that force skillfully like many tacticians, they can hurt someone. Anne seemed to sense early on that she was about to be tossed about like a rag doll and made it clear that she was done early and she meant it.
My favorite match which seemed more to Anne’s liking was when she faced Italian Princess Luna inside the famous TPC living room.
Here was the match description. “Beauties Luna and Anne Marie face up and use many holds in this fully competitive challenge. Both are very keen to win and are determined to be top beauty. A humiliating face pin ends the match!”
It was a long erotic struggle but well-paced. Luna was the more skilled wrestler but typical of Luna there was a strong side to her that liked to get dominated so Anne Marie stayed in the match and this was an encounter where neither feminine girl was going to get hurt. There were lots of head locks and school girl pin attempts that accentuated the action.
Her fantasy match in the ring against Ruby Leigh was also more of her style as the two engaged in various forms of wrestling but it was clear that both were skill limited.
Anne seemed to prefer the fantasy realm and that was a good thing when she faced Lisa Marie who at times had a mean streak that she often displayed with opponents she could easily dominate so fortunately Anne did not choose that style of match with her.
Anne Marie in Lisa marie’s Fantasy Grasp
The time period that a person competes in is often reflective of how they were formed and the mindset of the times. I would say in the 1990s, the women’s wrestling game was very erotic oriented with very few of the MMA skilled Amazons that we see today. That era seemed to be a better fit for Anne than today’s fully competitive and sometimes injury riddled world.
What was happening in 1993?
In the United States, Bill Clinton was President, Islamic Fundamentalists bomb the World Trade Center, Ty Warner USA launches the first Beanie Babies, two former police officers are convicted of violating the civil rights of beaten motorist Rodney King and after a 51-day stand-off at the Branch Davidian compound near Waco, Texas, the conflict ends with a fire that kills 76 people, including David Koresh.
The sports world was alive and sensational.
At Wimbledon Steffi Graf defeated Jana Novotna and Pete Sampras who loved the grass courts soundly defeated Jim Courier. In the NBA John Paxson‘s 3-point shot in Game 6 of the NBA Finals helps the Chicago Bulls secure a 99–98 win over the Phoenix Suns, and their third consecutive championship.
Of significant note around the globe F. W. de Klerk and Nelson Mandela, both of South Africa, won the Nobel Peace Prize and South Africa adopted their new majority rule constitution on November 18.
The top films were as follows:
- Jurassic Park
- Mrs. Doubtfire
- The Fugitive
- The Firm
- Sleepless in Seattle
- Indecent Proposal
- In the Line of Fire
- The Pelican Brief
- Schindler’s List
- Cliffhanger
- Philadelphia
- Robin Hood: Men in Tights
What were you doing in 1993? Do any of the above events jog your memory as to where you were and what you were doing?

It’s another aspect of the female submission wrestling industry that always fascinates me. Unlike other industries, arguably some would say more respectable; the participants come and go and we virtually never remember them even when they were at the top of their game.
In our industry, not only did the competitors like Anne have star power but they had a way of making us care about what there were doing and in many cases allow us to swim in a fantasy world that helped us escape the harsh realities of the real world in a way few other pastimes do.
It’s hard to forget that.
So much of what lasts, good or bad, is how people make you feel.
Though it doesn’t do her sensational talent justice; we briefly pay tribute to TPC star Anne Marie. She was a shapely blonde Londoner that helped us escape into a sweet, fog covered mystical world that many of us will never forget.
