Cacao, unsweetened, liquor, bittersweet, milk, white, ground and more; simply add the word chocolate after the previous descriptions and it emphasis how most of us are crazy about chocolate.
Variety in chocolate is a wonderful thing, wouldn’t you agree?
According to the informative site countrymeters.info, as of December 31, 2015, there are 3,654,649,848 females in the world.
Most of us love women far more than chocolate. What we love most about our better halves is the variety they blossom into.
So if that is the case, why is it that the modeling world thinks we are only interested in thin women who fit a similar look and profile?
Thankfully leave it to the brilliant, trend setting minds of Brazil to come to the rescue and what better city to lead the way than Sao Paulo where women out-number men.
Welcome to the new world where the definition of what is seen as beautiful is being redefined. Yes life does imitate art but in this case, art seems to be imitating and following real life.
São Paulo is considered the most multicultural city in Brazil. Since 1870 to 2010, approximately 2.3 million immigrants arrived in the state, from all parts of the world. It is the city with the largest populations of ethnic Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Spanish, Lebanese and Arab outside of their countries.
Sao Paulo is truly a diverse melting pot.
The Italian community is one of the strongest, with a presence throughout the city. Of the ten million inhabitants of São Paulo, 60% (six million people) have some Italian ancestry. São Paulo has more descendants of Italians than any other Italian city (the largest city of Italy is Rome, with 2.5 million inhabitants). Six thousand pizzerias are producing about a million pizzas a day.
The fantastic travel site lonelyplanet.com knows Sao Paulo well. “São Paulo is a monster. Enormous, intimidating and, at first glance at least, no great beauty. It’s a difficult city for the traveler to master and one that may not seem worth the sweat. Even the most partisan Paulistano – resident of São Paulo city – will rail about the smog, the traffic, the crumbling sidewalks and the gaping divide between poor and rich. But in the same breath they’ll tell you they’d never live anywhere else.”
Given that Milan Italy is considered by many as the fashion capital of the world, so coupled with Sao Paulo’s love of diversity, it only makes perfect sense that Sao Paulo would display the unique fashion show that allows gorgeous plus size models to showcase their beauty.
Brazil has its own fashion identity. Many very talented Brazilian designers show every season at Sao Paulo and Rio fashion weeks.….Gisele Bundchen
The global site dailymail.co.uk reports that this has been happening for some time. “In a scene that was larger than life, a group of plus-sized models took the runway to present the Plus Size Fall/Winter 2013 collection show in Sao Paulo on Saturday.
In a country noted for its bevy of beautiful women, including notable exports of Gisele Bündchen and Alessandra Ambrosio, the Brazilian women on display in the Saturday show proudly displayed their fuller frames.”
Yes the girl from Ipanema still exists and has endured the sensuous test of time only she just weighs a little more than before. Variety is wonderful.
Their motives are not entirely altruistic.
Women and men in Brazil like many other parts of the world are getting larger.
The globally read ibtimes.co.uk reports on this trend as well. “With its famous beaches and hot climate Brazil has a reputation for hosting some of the world’s most beautiful and body-perfect women.
Super models however do not make up the majority of the world’s population, and in one of the most body-conscious country, overweight women had little choice in the swimwear department.”
Manufacturers are getting wise to the cultural shift. During the same year, the news source the nydailynews.com informs, “A growing number of bikini manufacturers have woken up to Brazil’s thickening waistline and are reaching out to the ever-expanding ranks of heavy women with new plus-size lines. Since its launch in 2010, the line has become a hit.”
The enjoyable plus size fashion show in Sao Paulo displays many lesser known names in the modeling industry but Brazil certainly has some well-known names as well.
One is Barbara Monteiro.
The popular huffingtonpost.com adds, “Miss Brazil Plus Size is a beauty pageant that only allows women who weigh a minimum of 175 pounds to compete. The contest has different standards than other beauty pageants, organizer Adelex Gois told Reuters. This year’s pageant winner told Reuters that she is proud to represent the plus size universe and help fight discrimination. In addition to the title, Monteiro won $6,000 and a trip to Switzerland to participate in a free modeling course.”
The world of fashion modeling is become far more competitive as these Fem Competitors have brought much needed attention to this market.
They are starting make some good money too.
Curves are the essence of my work because they are the essence of Brazil, pure and simple…..Oscar Niemeyer
The site that reports on the financially elite, therichest.com smiles, “The first Brazilian model on this list is Fluvia Lacerda. She is known around the world as the “plus size Gisele Bündchen” and not because they are both from Brazil. She is regarded as one of the most popular and sexiest plus size models not only in Brazil but throughout the rest of the world. She became a hot plus size model a few years ago and unlike many of her contemporaries, her popularity has only become brighter over time. Discovered by an editor of a magazine on a bus in Manhattan, this plus size beauty has since appeared in some of the most prestigious plus size brands all around the world.”
Andrea Boschim
They continue, “Brazilian model Andrea Boschim is among the sexiest plus size models out there. Born in 1978, the Hispanic model started her career in plus size modeling in 2002 through a contest. She competed with 70 other competitors to win the contest. Boschim started doing fashion photo shoots at first. In later years, she appeared in various television contests and programs in Brazil. Boschim appeared on the pages of renowned magazine “Veja”, the very first plus size model to do so. She has also worked as a fashion consultant for various fashion shows on television as well as other fashion events.”
As advocate of choice in modeling, plus-model-mag.com has a favorite also. “Brazilian plus size model Mayara Russi is simply stunning! She’s a size 22 beautiful model who is one of Brazil’s most well-known plus size models and face of Kaue Plus Size.
The newest catalog shows an incredibly confident and lovely Mayara in super cute looks. After we posted an image on our Facebook page, one of our fans posted” This makes me proud! I can relate more to this model because we have the same figure type/size. I can see myself shopping with this brand.” Yet again proof that women want to be inspired by more realistic models in campaigns.”
Please don’t forget the men too. These gorgeous girls inspire us to admire.
