The Sherman Antitrust Act makes monopoly power illegal.
According to business-law.freeadvice.com, under the Sherman Act monopoly power is considered the ability of a business to control a price within its relevant product market or its geographic market or to exclude a competitor from doing business within its relevant product market or geographic market.
There are a number of legal reasons why monopolies are wrong but the main principle behind the laws is that one of the greatest components that enhance our ability to pursue our right to happiness in a free society is the ability to have various choices and options.
When it comes to show casing the beauties of the female submission wrestling world, ballet, contemporary dance, CrossFit and fitness, the overwhelming tendency is to focus on those in virtually perfect shape. That’s understandable due to all of the volumes of health related research that indicates the fitter lifestyle is a healthier and longer lasting one.
All good points.
Having said that, we don’t live in a perfect world.
All roses don’t have to be red to be beautiful.
All women don’t have to fit a specific ideal to be beautiful because after all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Right?
Please meet Denise Bidot.
I suppose the greatest compliment that Femcompetitor Magazine could pay Denise is that she didn’t promote herself to us. We saw her and thought….WOW! What a gorgeous model. The road to happiness is multiple choices and options and as a plus size model, Denise compliments the competitive modeling scenery.
Have you heard of her? If not, let’s meet her.
Denise? Could you please have your people present you to our audience?
Her great site denisebidot.com is happy to oblige. “Denise Bidot, the size 14, Puerto Rican and Kuwaiti, international plus-size model, TV personality, the voice and advocate for curvy women and self-love, can be recognized for her groundbreaking movements within the Fashion Industry. Her work for straight- and plus-size brands such as Forever 21, Target, Levi’s, Nordstrom, Macy’s, Old Navy, Lane Bryant and as the face of the Danish brand, Zizzi Clothing, has positioned herself to be a leading figure for all women of different sizes.
During New York Fashion Week 2014 (September), Denise broke many barriers by becoming the first plus-size model to walk two runways for straight-size brands, CHROMAT and Serena Williams’ HSN fashion line. Denise was personally selected by Serena Williams to be the only plus-size model to walk in her show. At the Serena Williams fashion show, Denise experienced a surreal moment when fashion innovator, Anna Wintour of Vogue Magazine, praised her presence at the show and runway. This was a moment that truly symbolized the change of integrating all sizes within the fashion world; a movement Denise has been leading.”
Good to know.
They are not alone in their admiration for Denise. The enjoyable site eonline.com wants their chance to worship Denise as well. “Denise Bidot is one of the most recognizable (not to mention beautiful) faces in the plus-sized modeling world. She has strutted her stuff down the runway of New York Fashion Week, worked with some of the biggest names in the industry like Nordstrom’s, Lane Bryant, and Levi’s.”
She certainly has come to the attention of the main stream media. The respected news source dailymail.co.uk speaks to her being a trend setter. “Plus-size model Denise Bidot is no stranger to breaking boundaries over the span of her eight year career in the fashion industry, and now the size 14 star has revealed that she is dying to grace the Victoria’s Secret catwalk as the brand’s first ever plus-size model.
The 29-year-old, who became the first plus-size model to walk the runway for two straight-size brands during New York Fashion Week last September, told Daily Mail Online that she ‘would love to see a plus-size Victoria’s Secret model’ – and better yet she would like to be one.”
Denise? In this life and especially in America, you can become anyone that you want. Whatever you are dreaming about, we know that you are going to make it happen.
Her site once again speaks to that. They explain, “Denise has traveled the world as a plus-size model and has made herself well-known as a role model, and television personality. This leading lady was a part of Jennifer Lopez’s TV network, NUVOtv’s, “Curvy Girls,” which showcased her life as a curvy woman and model. In addition, Denise’s life was profiled in HBO’s “Habla Women,” with other empowering stories of Latinas which includes actress, Gina Rodriguez, Cosmopolitan For Latinas Magazine’s editor-in-chief, Michelle Herrera Mulligan, and female boxer, Marlen Esparza. Denise was also featured as a mom on the web series with Yahoo! En Español titled “Mama vs. Mama.” On the show, she conducted fun DIY projects and shared parenting tips with fellow Latin TV personality, Isolda Peguero.”
Good for Denise.
My only tweak to this beautiful industry choice option is the phrasing plus size model. We don’t say skinny size model, thin model, mini size model etc. I love the phrases shapely and curvy.
Just sayin.
The innovative group Swimsuits For All, an online bathing suit retailer for curvy women, has teamed up with Denise to launch an unretouched “Beach Body. Not Sorry” ad campaign encouraging women to feel unapologetically sexy in their own skin — cellulite and all.
That sounds refreshing to me.
Femcompetitor Magazine thus far has yet to feature many articles on our curvy, shapely models who compete for contracts, sponsors and endorsements like other models because well……..we just didn’t think about it. Shame on us.
It’s a little ironic because in a safe, dignified environment, we would love to see these shapely princesses wrestle too or at least women who look exactly like them.
We will write more on these Fem Competitors in the future. According to the Huffington Post, we will have plenty of research to pull from. They inform, “Being a plus-size model is now a trend. Magazines like Elle have featured plus-size models on their covers. Renowned brands like Special K are using real size women for their advertising campaigns, and more clothing lines are including options for “large” sized people.”
Denise, you gorgeous girl; thanks for thinking outside the box, speaking with honesty and opening minds and hearts.
In a free society, we love options and choices and above all……..
We love being inspired.
