Blonde and youthfully magnificent, Lenka reminds me of the good old days, the early sunrises of DWW wrestling.
Her resume includes gladiatorial contests against Dana N, Ingrid, Christie, Vladka, Luzia, Monika N., Eva Sch, Petra S. Renata B, Sylvia N, Simona, Lucy H, Karine, Petulla, Laila, Bea S, Antonia, Renate K, Eva P, Edina P, Melanie, Susanne and Timea C.
Lenka was always formidable in a quiet way and held her own and defeated the lesser experienced girls but struggled against the upper echelon like Luzia and in one case was easily dismantled by DWW Hall Of Fame wrestler Ingrid in Budapest in March of 1999 by a score of 5-2.
An example of her mastery over the newer girls is evident in this review regarding her match against Petra S. “In this match Petra faces a much more experienced Lenka. Both girls looked good in their outfits. As expected, Lenka controlled most of the action during the match. Petra did her best and did not give up easily when trapped in Lenka’s submission or pinning holds. Petra even had the upper hand in the match several times. I was glad to see that Lenka did not use the same moves over and over but did use several different finishing moves.”
An example of Lenka’s determination and aggression is found at this review before her match with longtime Danube favorite Melanie. “There is something about some girls which raises the hackles of the other girls, and little blonde Lenka is one such. She looks so sweet, but her taciturn ”you wanna try it – think you’re hard enough?” attitude brings out the ”let’s go now!” The first match is a chance for Lenka to reverse the novice defeat she suffered from gorgeous Melanie at the March Event 1999 (DWW-153), and throughout this wrestling match is in danger of becoming a real fight, as very partisan supporters scream for their girl to win.”
She displayed great passion and intensity battling it out with none other than the other blonde terminator in Ingrid out in the forest.
This brings me back to the subject of the good old days.
The days that Lenka wrestled, starting right around 1999, were certainly a time when DWW was ascending. What this writer enjoyed about Lenka’s time period was in comparison to other wrestling companies at the time, there was no comparison.

Still you have to be cautious about the Halo Effect.
Brooks Atkinson, now deceased, was the Drama Critic of The New York Times for 31 years, and the winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Foreign Correspondence in 1947. He makes a great point about the good old days. “In every age ‘the good old days’ were a myth. No one ever thought they were good at the time. For every age has consisted of crises that seemed intolerable to the people who lived through them.”
Doug Larson (born February 10, 1926) was a columnist and editor for the Door County Advocate (1953–1964) and wrote a daily column for the Green Bay Press-Gazette (1964–1988), both Wisconsin-based newspapers. Here was his take on the good old days. “Nostalgia is a file that removes the rough edges from the good old days.”
I think you can see where I’m heading with this but let’s travel to England and help cement the point.

There is a temptation to swim in the past as though virtually all that surrounded it was special.
Lenka is indeed a special memory for me because DWW and everything they were doing was so new. That is my Memory Bump. Still, limiting this discussion to our women’s wrestling world, an argument could be made that things are clearly better now even with the closing of DWW.
In those days we as customers were at the mercy of snail mail where you see a product advertised in flyers, get extremely excited, order it and when it finally arrives in the mail and you place it in the VCR, drum roll please…………….
It’s a dud.
I can’t tell you how many times that happened.
Now we can see preview clips online.
We don’t have to physically walk or drive to the post office, pay certified mail for fear we will never get our product (which happened to me more than once) or stand there endlessly with wild anticipation only to see the post office box empty.
Today, there are more female run companies than ever before. This means there is a greater possibility of global cooperation as opposed to the old Feudal Lord model where everything and everyone was controlled by one person.
What I found with my research is that often when the former DWW beautiful gladiators met the newer DWW Generation of fighters, they lost as much as they won.
I’ve thrown away lots of my old diaries – you never know who might get their hands on them. But I have kept a few notes on the good old days.…..Steffi Graf
Take nothing away from our then childlike blonde princess Lenka. She showed up and fought hard. The nostalgia is primarily in my head. In a once extremely stressful life with kids in the home and work responsibilities, the DWW mats was one of the few pleasurable places to escape.
Let’s test this romanticism elixir out.

As the down to earth writer Toni Bernhard expressed so well in her article found at psychologytoday.com, “So it’s good to remember that life is a mixed bag in every era and in every decade, and not to allow romanticizing the past ruin the life you have now.”
I’m glad I had a chance to re-visit the then beautiful child warrior Lenka’s memory through rose colored and romantic glasses. That certainly was enjoyable and soothing. What I appreciate more though was how this stroll down memory lane is a strong reminder that today will soon be the good old days of tomorrow and if we are wise, we should enjoy these days to the full right now.
