March 28, 2024,
It may make you uncomfortable, but you should learn about it and know it well.
Then you can make an informed decision as to whether you want to participate.
You may be afraid of it and want to play it safe. Keep in mind, the entire electronic financial world is connected to it.
The Stock Market.
The percentage of women who invest in the stock market is around 60% as of 2023.
Successfully investing in the Stock Market has massively changed a lot of lives.
The team at Business Insider shares the feel good story of Tiffany James, reporting, “Since 2019, James has invested a total of $10,000 in the stock market, finessing trades, long-term LEAPs, securities, options, and futures into a million-dollar portfolio in just two years.”
Even for ordinary people, getting rich in the Stock Market, can happen.
A stock market is the aggregation of buyers and sellers of stocks, also called shares, which represent ownership claims on businesses.
These may include securities listed on a public stock exchange as well as stock that is only traded privately, such as shares of private companies that are sold to investors through equity crowdfunding platforms. Investments are usually made with an investment strategy in mind.
That is a mouthful of green.
Affecting the world?
The total market capitalization of all publicly traded stocks worldwide rose from US$2.5 trillion in 1980 to US$93.7 trillion at the end of 2020.
As of 2016, there are 60 stock exchanges in the world. Of these, there are 16 exchanges with a market capitalization of $1 trillion or more, and they account for 87% of global market capitalization. Apart from the Australian Securities Exchange, these 16 exchanges are all in North America, Europe, or Asia.
By country, the largest stock markets as of January 2022 are in the United States of America (about 59.9%), followed by Japan (about 6.2%) and United Kingdom (about 3.9%).
The Stock Market can have its share of nightmares as well.
Probably the easiest way to understand that complex beast is to go to the movies.
Here, we are not talking about overly scripted films with villains and heroes. If you have any chance of understanding the beginnings of how the Stock Market works, here is a film, based upon real life.
Let’s start with an early gem that we loved back in the day.
Rogue Trader is a 1999 British biographical drama film written and directed by James Dearden and starring Ewan McGregor and Anna Friel.
The film centers on the life of former derivatives broker Nick Leeson and the 1995 collapse of Barings Bank.
Following an interview with Nick Leeson in prison, Sir David Frost realized the potential for a movie and optioned the rights to Nick’s story.
Here is the storyline.
Rogue Trader tells the true story of Nick Leeson, a young employee of Barings Bank who after a successful spell working for the firm’s office in Indonesia is sent to Singapore as General Manager of the Trading Floor on the SIMEX exchange.
The movie follows Leeson’s rise as he soon becomes one of Barings’ key traders.
However, everything isn’t as it appears.
Through the 88888 error account, Nick is hiding huge losses as he gambles away Barings’ money with little more than the bat of an eyelid from the high leadership back in London.
Eventually the losses mount up to well over £800 million and Nick, along with his wife Lisa, decide to leave Singapore and escape to Malaysia.
Nick doesn’t realize the severity of his losses until he reads in the newspaper that Barings has gone bankrupt.
Shocking.
We only threw that in, because, as we sense you know, the Stock Market can make you money or lose it.
Let’s walk over to the book store.
In terms of learning the basics of how the Stock Market works, this appears to be a good read.

Well stated.
We can’t say enough that you should not listen to one source, even if on television, radio, movies or the bookstore, they are promoted as a wizard.
We suggest, read a number of books, watch a number of “based upon a true story” films, look up basic Stock Market themes on YouTube and go to the library and seek out a variety of books.
Before you jump in, don’t limit yourself.
Having said all of that, though often risky, we think you should still give the Stock Market a look.
