February 20, 2021,
She does look familiar. Where have we seen her before? We’re getting vexed.
Hopefully in real life because we would like to re-introduce ourselves.
This starlit is gorgeous.
Okay, now we know where we’ve seen her before.
She’s the sister of the stunning girl next door actress Dakota Fanning.
Mary Elle Fanning (born April 9, 1998) is a beautiful young American actress.
She is best known for her recent works in a number of independent films and her portrayal as Aurora in the Maleficent film series.
As the younger sister of actress Dakota Fanning, she made her film debut as the younger version of her sister’s character in the drama film I Am Sam (2001). As a child actress, she appeared in a string of films including Because of Winn-Dixie (2005), Babel (2006), Phoebe in Wonderland (2008), and Somewhere (2010).
Our gorgeous star’s breakthrough came in 2011 with her starring role in J. J. Abrams‘ science-fiction film Super 8, for which her performance was praised by critics and earned her a Spotlight Award at the Hollywood Film Festival.
In the wake of this success, she had leading roles in the films We Bought a Zoo (2011) and Ginger & Rosa (2012). She portrayed Princess Aurora in Maleficent (2014) and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019).
In recent years, she has made a transition into independent cinema with lead and supporting roles in films such as 3 Generations (2015), The Neon Demon (2016), 20th Century Women (2016), Mary Shelley (2017), The Beguiled (2017), I Think We’re Alone Now (2018), Galveston (2018), Teen Spirit (2018) and All the Bright Places (2020).
Yes, All the Bright Places.
Saw that one on Netflix. Had our criticisms about the ending, which we won’t give away here, but overall found the movie to be very teen engaging. Not a boring moment.
We love reliving our teen years.
All the Bright Places is a 2020 American teen romantic drama film, directed by Brett Haley, from a screenplay by Jennifer Niven and Liz Hannah, based upon the novel of the same name by Niven.
It stars the talented Elle, Justice Smith, Alexandra Shipp, Kelli O’Hara, Lamar Johnson, Virginia Gardner, Felix Mallard, Sofia Hasmik, Keegan-Michael Key and Luke Wilson.
It was released on February 28, 2020, by Netflix.
Based on the internationally bestselling novel by Jennifer Niven, All The Bright Places tells the story of Violet Markey and Theodore Finch, who meet and change each other’s lives forever.
Literally life altering.
Netflix summarizes, “Two teens facing personal struggles form a powerful bond as they embark on a cathartic journey chronicling the wonders of Indiana.”
They attend the same high school in the fictional town of Bartlett, Indiana, and they meet in an unconventional way.
Very unconventional.
The way he met her, they both will never forget it.
As they struggle with the emotional and physical scars of their past, they come together through a school project, discovering that even the smallest places and moments can mean something.
This compelling drama provides a refreshing and human take on the experience of mental illness, its impact on relationships, as well as the beauty and lasting impact of young love.
Talk about a gray area, what is mental illness exactly?
Before we can answer that, we need to define what mental health is.
Mental health is the level of psychological well-being or an absence of mental illness.
It is the state of someone who is “functioning at a satisfactory level of emotional and behavioral adjustment”.
The operative word here is satisfactory and who by the way defines what satisfactory means?
This could go on.
From the perspectives of positive psychology or of holism, mental health may include an individual’s ability to enjoy life and to create a balance between life activities and efforts to achieve psychological resilience.
The operative word here is balance.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health includes “subjective well-being, perceived self-efficacy, autonomy, competence, inter-generational dependence, and self-actualization of one’s intellectual and emotional potential, among others”.
The WHO further states that the well-being of an individual is encompassed in the realization of their abilities, coping with normal stresses of life, productive work, and contribution to their community.
Now it’s time to contrast that with someone who appears to be mentally ill.
The American Psychiatric Association psychiatry.org explains, “Mental illnesses are health conditions involving changes in emotion, thinking or behavior (or a combination of these). Mental illnesses are associated with distress and/or problems functioning in social, work or family activities.”
Mental illness is common. In a given year nearly one in five (19 percent) U.S. adults experience some form of mental illness and one in 24 (4.1 percent) have a serious mental illness.
The United States Human Health Services adds it is characterized by feelings of excessive uneasiness, worry, and fear.
Elle’s film helped shed light on this increasingly important subject. Given the state of this extremely crowded world, a line of reasoning could be made that there is solid reasons for having feelings of excessive uneasiness, worry, and fear.
Wouldn’t you agree?
Here is what the master reviewers at rogerebert.com surmised about All the Bright Places, “All the Bright Places,” based on the best-selling novel of the same name, is chock full of the kinds of Young Adult tropes that aim to make viewers swoon and soak their hankies with tears. These are the kinds of characters who rely on snappy, quirky dialogue to work through deep sorrow, who quote Virginia Woolf to each other in late-night message exchanges to express how they feel in their burgeoning relationship.”
Well said.
A movie well thought out.
A movie that is truly thought provoking.
Indiana never looked so magical and mystical in a lost in the forest sort of way.
Elle can bring that kind of weight, power and gravity to a film.
In May 2019, Elle was appointed as a jury member of the international competition in the 72nd annual Cannes Film Festival, becoming the youngest Cannes juror in history.
That is heady stuff for a 23 year old. What were you doing at 23?
We were not even on the same planet.
So keep an eye on Elle. Make that two eyes.
You know you’ve heard about this beauty and seen her before. Stay with that thought. Have fun binging on her movies. Embrace her talents.
It will make for a wonderful mental health and wellness day.
