May 1, 2020,
There are all kinds of excuses that we can come up with during quarantine that, at least in our minds, would justify eating store bought, hard cooked (especially around the edges) deep chocolate brownies.
With melted chocolate chips too.
First of all, this whole staying at home, quarantine lifestyle is very stressful. We deserve to treat ourselves and you only live once so “the” don’t deny yourself philosophy sounds pretty good right now.
We need something to make us smile and remind us of the good old days when our grandmother actually did bake them. They were delicious.
If we only eat them once in a blue moon, or during a coronavirus moon, they can’t be all that bad for us. Can they?
Right now we need comfort and they are some of the best comfort foods around.
Those are just some of our reasons (excuses) to chomp down on some tasty brownies while we stream a movie.
We sense that you can come up with a few more.
If you look online there are so many brownie options.
We want to be good and try a healthy brownie, and the vegan approach is good with certain types of foods but we’re not so sure about brownies.
Especially if they are sugarless too.
Whatever that concoction is, while it might taste okay, it doesn’t taste like grandmother’s brownies.
Still, we’re going to give it our best effort to find some healthy brownies.
We searched and searched with our glasses on and vegan dictionary at our side and we came across a company that we feel would receive the blessings of the vegan community.
The company’s name is Base Culture and things appear to be going extremely well for them during the global pandemic. Apparently other brownie lovers around the world were thinking the same sweet chocolate thoughts as ourselves.
At baseculture.com they smile, “We are currently experiencing an unprecedented surge in demand. Our team is working hard to ship orders as quickly as possible, but we may have some slight delays during this time. It is our mission to nourish you and provide simple daily joy with our products, and it is our priority to keep your freezers and pantries stocked. We thank you for your patience and continued loyalty. We are all in this together!”
That alone appears to be the best recommendation of all.
You know, once the pandemic hit, we knew that people made a run on toilet paper, paper towels, rubbing alcohol, bleach, sanitary wipes, Webcams and the like.
We forgot about brownies.
When people stay at home, they love their brownies.
And wine. Those sales are up too.
We want to know more about Base Culture and their founder Ms. Jordann Windschauer.
“A 30-day Paleo Challenge for our founder Jordann Windschauer became a lasting lifestyle when she began feeling more energized, healthy, and simply better. But finding baked goods that were satisfying and completely grain free and gluten free proved to be a challenge. Once Jordann started making her own Paleo baked goods, she realized how many people were missing out on the simple pleasure of a delicious, all-natural snack. With that, Base Culture was born. It’s that same mission that drives Jordann to this day, to make embracing a Paleo lifestyle easier than ever before.”
What is a Paleo diet exactly?
According to mayoclinic.org, “A paleo diet is a dietary plan based on foods similar to what might have been eaten during the Paleolithic era, which dates from approximately 2.5 million to 10,000 years ago.
A paleo diet typically includes lean meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds — foods that in the past could be obtained by hunting and gathering. A paleo diet limits foods that became common when farming emerged about 10,000 years ago. These foods include dairy products, legumes and grains.”
Understood.
Good brownie news travels fast.
With a newly built 44,000 square feet facility, Base Culture expanded its operations.
Base Culture is simple, natural and primal.
Delicious too.
After expanding to grocery chains like Wegman’s and H-E-B, Base Culture went even further, acquiring shelf space in Whole Foods Market, Albertsons, Sprouts and Fresh Market.
We also found them on Amazon.

And Walmart.

That is impressive.
They have more good news for you.
Base Culture to Unveil New Packaging and Reformulated Low-Sugar Brownies
TAMPA, Fla., March 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Base Culture, maker of Paleo and gluten-free baked goods and snacks, is kicking off what is sure to be a successful 2020 with some exciting developments. The brand, wholly committed to producing quality baked goods that keep you feeling your best, is launching all-new, refreshed packaging this spring, but will also reduce the sugar in their popular Almond Butter Brownies and Cashew Butter Blondies by 40% to 15 grams. These wholesome treats will provide the same delicious taste consumers know and love, but with an improved nutritional profile.
Just last summer, Base Culture introduced their Original Keto Bread and 7 Nut & Seed Bread. Due to overwhelming consumer demand for all things Keto, this launch has been incredibly successful thus far. As if the relaunch of new packaging and new formulas wasn’t enough, Base Culture has been named a NEXTY award finalist for their Original Keto bread in the frozen category.
“We’ve always been committed to providing delicious baked goods that satisfy our consumers. Our pure Paleo ingredients have always been beautiful on the inside, but our fresh new packaging will strengthen our branding and have us looking just as beautiful on the outside,” said Jordann Windschauer, founder of Base Culture.
The brand, originally slated to celebrate these milestones at the upcoming Expo West, the world’s largest natural, organic, and healthy products trade show, March 3-7, 2020 in Anaheim, CA., decided to opt out of this year’s show (which is now postponed) due to the overwhelming COVID-19 concerns.
“As an emerging brand with only 2.5 years at retail, Expo West is an incredibly important show for us,” said Windschauer. “Attendance unraveled quickly and once our major retailers pulled out, we felt it was no longer a good way for us to focus our resources. Additionally, the health risk for the team was not worth the limited upside, but not being able to attend the show still hurts, especially for a small brand like ours.”
When Windschauer started her 30-day Paleo challenge in 2012, she couldn’t find any truly Paleo baked goods that were nourishing, clean and delicious. She stepped up to the challenge and began creating her own bread, brownies, and almond butters. Since then, Windschauer’s line of baked goods and snacks has spread like wildfire, and today Base Culture can be found in major retailers such as Albertsons, Whole Foods, Kroger, Walmart, Safeway, Wegmans, and Sprouts.
“We come from humble beginnings, but have stayed persistent,” stated Windschauer. “Base Culture has been on a really steady, fast growing trajectory. We’re so optimistic about all that’s ahead in 2020.”
The brand’s refreshed packaging is set to hit shelves late February through early April 2020.
