April 30, 2020,
Comfortable long-term habits can always use some shaking up. Baking up.
Especially in confined spaces.
No matter how large your home is, for most of us, if we stay there long enough, compared to the spacious outdoors, it can seem confined.
But since we are there, we can create colorful varieties in the foods that we eat.
We can electronically travel the country seeking out the dish we never had but would love to try.
Then order it online.
For the first time. In a confined space. With a table cloth.
Hmm, so what can we order online today, even if we want to eat it later in the week?
Had not heard of this tasty chicken dish before but thus far we love the aroma.
We sense that during the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers football rivalry, these restaurants stay really busy.
Chicken Salad Chick is a fast casual restaurant chain and franchise of chicken salad restaurants based in Auburn, Alabama. As of March 2020, the chain consists of 146 franchise restaurants and stores in 16 different U.S. states.
The company started with Mrs. Stacy Brown and her husband Kevin.
At their tasty home chickensaladchick.com they share, “Stacy Brown has always been on a quest to find the perfect chicken salad. One day she had an epiphany: Everyone’s idea of the perfect chicken salad is completely different! The stay-at-home mom set to work perfecting her own recipe, recruiting her family and neighbors to taste-test, before arriving at the one.
Once Stacy had the chicken salad that made her family and friends say “mmm, yes ma’am,” she started dropping off samples of her creation in teachers’ lounges and hair salons, and then began selling door-to-door. Orders poured in; Chicken Salad Chick was born.”
Mrs. Brown was selling her homemade chicken salad door-to-door in Auburn, Alabama.
With the health department prohibiting the sale of foods cooked in one’s home, the Browns devised a plan to open a restaurant.
Great idea.
Time to take a closer look at their story from a slightly different plate.
At the informative site liptonfinancialservices.com they share, “Chicken Salad Chick, based in Auburn, Alabama, was formed in 2008, by Stacy Brown, a stay at home mom and self-proclaimed connoisseur of chicken salad who began the business by selling Chicken Salad made from her home kitchen. When she was shuttered by the local health department for selling food from an un-approved facility, she was joined by partner and future husband, Kevin, who left a career in software sales to help build the foundation for multiple corporate locations and future franchise growth.”
Of note, only about 45% of sales are dine-in, the balance being takeout (25%) and catering.
Yes catering. Go Tide or Tigers?
We’re starting to get hungry. Before we dine, we would like you to read about their important cause.
“The true purpose of our founders, Stacy and Kevin Brown, was to have a positive impact on people, and the duo saw the opportunity for a philanthropic avenue within just a few months of opening the first Chicken Salad Chick location. After Kevin’s diagnosis of stage 4 colon cancer that had spread to his liver, the direction of the Chicken Salad Chick Foundation became clear. Through fundraisers such as its annual Teeing Off On Cancer Golf Classic, the CSC Foundation is able to make sizeable donations to local cancer centers, as well as the American Cancer Society. The CSC Foundation hosted Music & Miracles Superfest in 2016 at Jordan-Hare Stadium featuring headliner Kenny Chesney plus Miranda Lambert, Sam Hunt, and Old Dominion, raising $200,000 for the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.
After a courageous fight, Kevin passed away in November of 2015. He continued to devote his time to his family, the business, and the CSC Foundation right to the end.
In addition to finding a cure for cancer, the CSC Foundation is passionate about ending hunger in America. This cause is a natural fit for our foundation since, as a restaurant concept founded with an appreciation for health and family, feeding families in need closely aligns with who we are as an organization. Food insecurity affects one in six people in America, reaching every community in every state. The CSC Foundation partners with Chicken Salad Chick locations in our various markets to give back to local food banks and food-related charities.
True to our mission of spreading joy, enriching lives, and serving others, we’re honored to have the ability to give back through our Chicken Salad Chick Foundation.”
We can really appreciate their important cause, especially since some in our immediate circle have survived or passed away from cancer.
The reviews about Stacy’s cuisine are fantastic. Here are two found at Trip Advisor:
- “First time at Chicken Salad Chick and pleasantly surprised at the assortment of their salads. By far the Kickin Kay Lynne is the best, the flavors are a delight on your palate. The service is fast and friendly. Loved the colorful table covers. Will be back when looking for a quick healthy meal.”
- We stopped here for lunch when we were on the road. It was a nice change from the usual hamburgers and greasy stuff. The soup and sandwich platter was ample and my husband enjoyed the original chicken salad with a baked potato soup. I had the three-salad platter with the Nana’s nutty salad, the original, and the one with egg and pickle in it.”
Delicious.
During these unprecedented times Chicken Salad Chick, innovative as ever, has come up with a creative way to help with the dining at home experience.
Chicken Salad Chick Expands Curbside Pick-Up And Delivery Options
– Fast casual concept introduces pop-up drive thrus and tests third party delivery alongside online ordering –
AUBURN, Ala., April 13, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Chicken Salad Chick, the nation’s only southern inspired, fast casual chicken salad restaurant concept, has quickly adapted operations to adhere to mandates across the nation suspending restaurant dine-in services by introducing online ordering, curbside pick-up and local Quick Chick delivery options at all locations. As the country continues to practice social distancing, the Quick Chick deliveries allow the brand to provide preordered and prepackaged sizes of their chicken salad flavors to more communities in the cities they serve. Restaurants choose a local meeting place, such as high schools and conveniently located parking lots to distribute the preordered Quick Chicks directly to guests in their vehicles.
For added convenience and to further limit interaction while still providing residents with quality meals, Chicken Salad Chick has introduced pop-up drive-thrus and is currently testing third party delivery, at select locations. Restaurants that do not have a drive-thru have been setting up a tent in the front, side or rear of the restaurant where guests can drive-up, order and have the meal delivered directly to their car. Additionally, Chicken Salad Chick is testing third party delivery options and is partnering with a select number of services including Door Dash and Postmates to make ordering takeout even easier.
“From the start, our mission at Chicken Salad Chick has been to spread joy, enrich lives and serve others, and that continues to be our goal even during a period of social distancing,” said Scott Deviney, CEO of Chicken Salad Chick. “We’re grateful that we’ve been able to build such strong relationships with the residents in the communities we serve and with their health and wellness a priority, we didn’t think twice about implementing these new dining options. We’ll continue to provide high quality meals prepared under our strict food safety protocol as we navigate the obstacles before us and know that our loyal guests will continue to support us and the restaurant industry as a whole. We’re all in this together.”
In an effort to give back to the local communities as well as express gratitude for those working to combat the Coronavirus, various Chicken Salad Chick restaurants across the country have also rolled out charitable promotions. Some restaurants allow guests to donate Quick Chicks to local food banks, while other initiatives such as, ‘Feeding the Front Line’, give them an opportunity to donate a Quick Chick, meal or full catering service to hospitals and medical offices in their area.
