Healthy is what we want even if healthy is not always the way we eat.
Fish is healthy, right?
For many regions of the world, patiently catching and eating fish is a wonderful way of life.
In the state of Washington, fish is an important cultural icon in Washington State that defines a recreational as well as a spiritual way of life in the Pacific Northwest. Fish is not only an important source of nutrition, the act of catching, preparing, and eating fish are important cultural and family practices as well.
According to the Washington State Department of Health, fish is a low-fat high quality protein. Fish is filled with omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins such as D and B2 (riboflavin). Fish is rich in calcium and phosphorus and a great source of minerals, such as iron, zinc, iodine, magnesium, and potassium.
These essential nutrients keep our heart and brain healthy.
That sounds very healthy and reassuring.
For those of us who frequent fast food establishments from time to time, we try and find something delicious and healthy on the menu.
Can a fast food fish sandwich actually be healthy for you?
We sure hope so.
Especially if it is a fish slider.
A slider is an American term for a steam-grilled sandwich, typically around 2 inches across, made with a bun. “Slider” is believed to have been first used to describe the onion-steamed small burgers at White Castle restaurants.
The term has since been appropriated by other restaurants, usually to describe a small hamburger, but sometimes used to describe any small sandwich made with a slider roll.
“For dinner parties, I love making an easy cioppino using shrimp, mussels, clams, and a hearty fish that won’t fall apart easily.”… Meghan Markle
Fish sliders now sound even better to us and there is some great news at White castle restaurants regarding them. Their offering even includes shrimp, rarely seen at other fast food establishments.
Let’s lend an ear.
