May 23, 2019,
Hiding in plain sight can at times describe some of the unintentionally best kept culinary secrets on the planet.
When that is the case, it is in our best interest to adorn ourselves in our symbolic detective’s trench coat and unearth where it is.
Discover who they are.
A food product that has been one of the planet’s best kept secret in Western countries that should be unearthed and shouted about from the roof tops is the nutritious and tasty food product known as hummus.
Please say that you have heard of it. In case you haven’t, here is the inside scoop.
Hummus is a Levantine dip or spread made from cooked, mashed chickpeas or other beans, blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and garlic.
It is popular in the Middle East and Mediterranean, as well as in Middle Eastern cuisine around the globe. It can also be found in most grocery stores in North America and Europe.
As an appetizer and dip, ideally hummus is scooped with flatbread, such as pita.
For Palestinians and Jordanians, hummus has long been a staple food, often served warm, with bread for breakfast, lunch or dinner. All of the ingredients in hummus are easily found in Palestinian gardens, farms and markets, thus adding to the availability and popularity of the dish.
Hummus is a common part of everyday meals in Israel. Jewish immigrants arriving from Europe in the late 19th and early 20th century adopted much of the local Palestinian cuisine.
We are so glad that hummus has made its way to Western shores and one of the oldest and very nutritious best kept secrets has been made available to the Western world.
It’s estimated that 25 percent of American homes now stock hummus in their refrigerators.
Just as little as 20 years ago, hummus sales barely topped $5 million, according to the USA Dry Pea & Lentil Council.
Now that the news about humus is spreading, in terms of the food’s nutritional value, the reviews are pouring in.
At the informative site healthline.com, they educate, “Hummus is a great source of plant-based protein, providing 7.9 grams per serving.
This makes it an excellent option for people on a vegetarian or vegan diet. Consuming enough protein is essential for optimal growth, recovery and immune function. In addition, hummus includes iron, folate, phosphorus and B vitamins, all of which are important for vegetarians and vegans, as they may not get enough from their diet.”
Others in respectable professional places agree. At the health oriented educational site livestrong.com, they share, “Hummus provides a number of essential vitamins and minerals you need for good health, but are an especially good sources of folate and iron. Folate is a B vitamin that aids in the production of DNA and RNA, and is especially important during periods of rapid growth such as infancy and pregnancy.”
Very good. Thanks for the info.
“There is one thing on which most athletes and experts seem to agree. If you want to be an elite athlete, good nutrition at a young age is an important place to start.”… Chuck Norris
We know about the nutritional value of hummus and many like its taste but can that taste be enhanced? Can we find more opportunities to eat hummus beyond being added to the main course?
A female entrepreneur answers yes. She is sweet. So is her product.
Let’s take a dip.
We first saw her on the investment television series Shark Tank.
Her experience there is observed by gazettereview.com which posts, “Makenzie Mazluff has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. The Los Angelos native founded a smoothie bar in Arizona called Osaka Sun Blendery, as well as two businesses in Australia before she got the idea for her desert hummus company, Delighted By. The organization was founded in the spring of 2015 after Makenzie decided to bring chickpea “cookie dough” to a party, to the surprise of the delighted guests. She developed a line of 8 dessert hummus flavors, such as Brownie Batter, orange-ginger, oatmeal raisin, and snickerdoodle, among others.”
Okay, so she had some previous business experience that she has called upon to build her current business Delighted By Hummus.
Let’s go to her site and see what her company is about at delightedbyhummus.com. They smile, “Delighted By’s mission is to inspire people to spread their glitter. In other words, to be the light they are out in the world. When Makenzie Marzluff launched Delighted By, she knew it was so much bigger than just healthy food. From the beginning, Makenzie’s intention was to allow Delighted By to be an example of how delightful life on earth is when you’re in alignment with the gifts (glitter!) you came to give.
Delighted By operates as a conscious enterprise beyond the simple focus on ‘triple bottom line.’ We intend to have positive impact on humanity and the planet by aligning with our core values daily.
We have set out to be a part of the shift in the food industry. From our conscious production methods, to the family-oriented team relationships, we never sacrifice our alignment for distribution growth.”
We love their story and can get inspired by that. What we don’t want to have lost in the translation is that this company is sharing their glitter by creating desserts.
That’s the whole idea.
The healthy food and lifestyle experts at store.veganessentials.com add, “What exactly is “dessert hummus”? Well, for starters, it’s AWESOMELY GOOD, and yes, it’s genuine hummus, but it’s nothing like the usual dips you’ve tried before.
Delighted By Hummus is the original dessert hummus – a dip made from chickpeas, in sweet flavors! Recently featured on ABC’s Shark Tank, Cosmopolitan, Oprah Magazine and more, Delighted By Hummus is the ‘innovative snack of the year.’
100% Vegan, Gluten-Free, all-natural and non-GMO, Delighted By Hummus is the perfect alternative to processed desserts. It comes in 3 delicious flavors: Brownie Batter, Snickerdoodle and Vanilla Bean. Enjoy all flavors with fruit, graham crackers, pretzels, cinnamon pita chips…or by the spoon!”
That sounds like a great recommendation to us. We don’t need a lot of convincing to eat delicious desserts and even more so if they are nutritious and good for us.
No more secrets between us. Okay?
Please get the word out. Hummus is very nutritious, has been around for centuries and now even comes in dessert.
It is so sweet when the new news is healthy and nutritious.
