Hopefully the woman you loved has never spat these words out to you. “You’re such a loser”.
If she has, no matter how long ago uttered, that is something that you will never forget.
The time of day, the place and the emotional setting in which she snarled at you will be burned into your memory forever.
That occurred in a film that will encourage you to place hiking in the Canadian back country on your never to do list.
Expand that.
Any back country. Any country.
There are large bears in the back country. They inhabit the nearby spaces where you may be hiking.
As far as we’re concerned, the only bears that we ever want to meet are named Smokey, Winnie the Pooh, Yogi and Boo Boo.
Even with those guys, we don’t want to see them on TV, only in the TV.
The singing group America is a British-American rock band formed in London in 1970 by Dewey Bunnell, Dan Peek, and Gerry Beckley.
One of their most popular songs is A Horse With No Name.
In the movie you are about to absorb, you will meet one of the meanest bears, with no name.
Backcountry is a 2014 Canadian nature–survival horror film, written and directed by Adam MacDonald. It is loosely based on the true story of a man-eating bear and 30-year-olds Mark Jordan and Jacqueline Perry, in the back country of Missinaibi Lake Provincial Park, North of Chapleau, Ontario in 2005, events for which Mark later received the Star of Courage award from Governor General Michaëlle Jean.
On the loosely based upon the true story part, loosely is the operative word.
In the movie version Mark’s character is arrogant, foolish and employment challenged.
Alex (Jeff Roop) and Jenn (Missy Peregrym) are shown driving from the city towards the country in their SUV. Jenn is seen constantly on her BlackBerry phone, which Alex doesn’t like.
They arrive at the visitor center and are greeted by the park ranger (Nicholas Campbell), who warns them about trail closures and late season remoteness. Alex refuses to take a map and excuses himself, confident that he knows the park well because he has visited multiple times.
His excursions there were a long time ago. Make that a lifetime ago.
Before heading out in a canoe, Alex takes Jenn’s cell phone and puts it in the car without her knowing because he’s sure she’ll be on it the whole time.
As they hike, he spots a bear paw print, but does not tell Jenn.
He plans to lead her to a lake which he claims is deep inside the park.
It seems to take them forever to get there.
They believe they have finally reached it, and climb to the top of the peak. However, when they reach the summit, they see no lake, only miles of forest. At this point it becomes clear that they are lost, with no map and no cell phone.
Drum roll please.
Jenn is infuriated and yells at Alex, calling him a loser among other things and demanding to know why he insisted on leading her so deep into the woods.
They eventually are accosted by one of the largest black bears you have ever seen and it eats Alex alive.
Jenn barely escapes with her life.
Applause all-around for Missy Peregrym.
The realness of the experience was incredible. You truly feel like you were out in the woods, the intensity of the carnivorous bear and the fear and pain of the hikers.
Missy is powerful in how she makes you feel every bit of her emotions and frustration with a boyfriend who places her life in danger and doesn’t demonstrate enough respect towards her to keep her informed.
We shouldn’t be surprised about Missy’s performance.
If you haven’t seen Missy before, after watching Backcountry you’ll never forget her.
What will move you from remembering her to being mesmerized by her is the new dynamic television show that she is starring in and once again, brings her gripping role to life.
From the moment we saw the first episode of this gem, we knew it was an absolute winner.
FBI is an American crime drama television series created by Dick Wolf and Craig Turk that airs on CBS, where it premiered on September 25, 2018. The series is produced by CBS Television Studios and Universal Television, with Wolf, Arthur W. Forney, Peter Jankowski, and Craig Turk serving as executive producers on the series.
FBI received a straight-to-series commission for 13 episodes on September 20, 2017. On October 11, 2018, it was announced that the series had received a full season order from CBS. In January 2019, CBS renewed the series for a second season.
We can completely understand why.
From the full on intense acting, the penetrating music score to the well-written storylines, we knew pronto that this series was and is an absolute winner.
The series features an ensemble cast including our star Missy Peregrym, Zeeko Zaki, Jeremy Sisto, Ebonée Noel and Sela Ward.

Melissa Peregrym is a Canadian actress and former fashion model. She is known for her roles as Haley Graham in the 2006 film Stick It and Officer Andy McNally on the ABC and Global Television Network series Rookie Blue (2010–2015), for which she was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award in 2016.
At age 18, Missy began her professional career with the Lizbell Agency. It was during her early modelling career that she was encouraged by her agency to move over to commercials. Due to this shift from print to screen, she did commercials for Mercedes-Benz, Sprint Canada, and the Olympic Games.
In 2000, Missy made her acting debut in an episode of Dark Angel, which was shot in scenic Vancouver, British Columbia.
Building upon her debut role, she performed in guest star roles on The Chris Isaak Show, Black Sash, Jake 2.0, Smallville, Tru Calling, Life as We Know It, Andromeda, Heroes, and in the television film Call Me: the Rise and Fall of Heidi Fleiss.

Our Canadian beauty is a dedicated soccer player, experienced snow boarder and loves outdoor sports on the local Vancouver Mountains.
Hopefully when no bears are around.
Having said that, if anyone can handle herself in tough situations, it is Missy.
She’s strong, intelligent, resourceful, fresh faced and beautiful.
Our strong suggestion is to keep watching Missy’ career ascend.
In her new starring role in FBI, her mesmerizing performances should continue to be passionately investigated.
