Female aggression has gotten a really bad rap over the years. Sometimes deserved and sometimes not.
The ultimate film about female aggression gone wild was Director Adrian Lyne’s Fatal Attraction.
Fatal Attraction is a 1987 American psychological thriller starring Michael Douglas, Glenn Close, and Anne Archer. The film centers on a married Manhattan man who has a weekend affair with a woman who refuses to allow it to end, resulting in her becoming obsessed with him.
Fatal Attraction was a massive hit, finishing as the second highest-grossing film of 1987 in the United States and the highest-grossing film of the year worldwide. Critics were enthusiastic about the film, and it received six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture.
Here is the invitation to group therapy. That was aggression on steroids.
The sweeping definitions of aggression seem to be the only support the word is designated with.
The respected information source Merriam-Webster Dictionary is very direct in their definitions of aggression.
Definition of aggression
- a forceful action or procedure (as an unprovoked attack) especially when intended to dominate or master
- the practice of making attacks or encroachments; especially : unprovoked violation by one country of the territorial integrity of another
- hostile, injurious, or destructive behavior or outlook especially when caused by frustration
Hmm, please tell us what you really think.
In an article written by Ms. Kendra Cherry, the enjoyable site verywell.com appears to mostly agree with Meriam. “In psychology, the term aggression refers to a range of behaviors that can result in both physical and psychological harm to oneself, other or objects in the environment. This type of social interaction centers on harming another person, either physically or mentally.”
Point taken.
Given the type of publication that they are, they have the ability to expand upon it as well. They continue, “Impulsive aggression, also known as affective aggression, is characterized by strong emotions, usually anger. This form of aggression is not planned and often takes place in the heat of the moment.
Instrumental aggression, also known as predatory aggression, is marked by behaviors that are intended to achieve a larger goal. Instrumental aggression is often carefully planned and usually exists as a means to an end.”
Very good, Very Well.
I think we are getting close to finding out a more balanced definition.
At humankinetics.com they continue to help clear thinks up and relate, “Instrumental aggression is goal-directed aggression in which harm to another is not the primary goal, although it can be a secondary result of the action.
In sport, an example would be the basketball player who slashes to the basket, leaps over a defender, and accidentally catches another defender with an elbow on the way up to scoring two points with a resounding dunk. The goal was to put the ball in the hole, not to harm an opponent. People who participate in sport know that injury is always a possibility. Accidental injuries happen. No blame should be assigned, and nothing in the rules of the game bans these incidents. Instrumental aggression is the hallmark for success in life and in sport and should be encouraged.”
And now for a well taken point. They add, “Some authors have described instrumental aggression as assertiveness.”
Bingo.
Let’s face it. How in the world can you be successful in sports without being aggressive? It’s impossible. The aggression described there is not meant to purposely hurt people.
In sport and sometimes in life, women need to be very aggressive.
In the female tennis world where we previously coached at the elite high school level, in many cases when a player falls behind and her current methods are not working, maybe she needs to become more aggressive and come into the net.
We love the Czech Republic and there is a strong surge taking place in displays of exceptional female sports.
One such beautiful aggressor on the professional tour from this scenic masterpiece of a country is Katerina Siniakova.
Our Euro Princess has won three doubles titles (including one WTA 125K series) on the WTA tour, as well as seven singles and four doubles titles on the ITF circuit in her career. On 24 October 2016, she reached her best singles ranking of world number 49. On 24 October 2016, she peaked at world number 33 in the doubles rankings.
Katerina was ranked the number two junior tennis player in the world in December 2012.
She was born in Hradec Králové to a Czech mother and a Russian father, Dmitry, a former boxer, who is Kateřina’s coach.
Well, having a former boxer as for a tennis coach, we sense would lead to a very aggressive game.
As we stand near a bright traditional Czech roof top in the middle of the square we turn our gaze towards our competitive female grappling industry and open the curtains to the video library of a great video producer in Fight Pulse.
If you love watching gorgeous Czech girls behaving aggressively, then my friend, you have come to the right place.
There are many fantastic matches that stand out but one that recently occurred at the 2016 Fight Pulse Light Weight Championships that painted aggression with a red brush took place between Giselle and Mia for third place.
The producers describe the match in very excited terms.
“This amazing fight for third place in the 2016 Fight Pulse lightweight championship pits two evenly matched and evenly determined opponents, Giselle and Mia, against each other.
This is in our opinion the best fight of the championship so far, featuring two strong young women who are closely matched in an intense aggressive female wrestling match. For both Mia and Giselle this is the third match of the championship. They both won their quarter-final matches and lost their semi-final fights. They now face each other in a battle for third place – the first place of the tournament with monetary prize.
Mia has surprised many with her win over Pink Rose in her first competitive female wrestling match ever. But Giselle is a different kind of fighter. Her ferocity, speed and aggression have earned Giselle the comfortable fourth place in the rankings prior to this championship, behind only Zoe, Akela and Jane. Mia is certainly a talented powerful lady, but can she pull an upset against Giselle?
FW-56 is easily one of our best competitive F/F titles to date. If you enjoy real intense female wrestling with back and forth action, with both opponents displaying great heart and determination, you will love this title.”

Okay. In the future when you hear the term female aggression there is the Yen and the Yang, Good Cop and Bad Cop which equals bad aggression meant to harm someone and exciting female aggression where women compete with the intent to win.
Mia and Giselle?

Instrumental Aggression in the female grappling game is a good thing.
