If you lost your health, how important would these things be?
Money.
Power and control.
Travel.
Delicious food.
Sex.
The list could go on, but if you have ever been in extremely poor health, you know that none of the above would matter much.
We have a friend in our circle who suffered from gastroparesis and barely survived it.
She could barely eat anything.
Gastroparesis is also called delayed gastric emptying, is a medical disorder consisting of weak muscular contractions (peristalsis) of the stomach, resulting in food and liquid remaining in the stomach for a prolonged period of time.
It is awful. She was nauseated all day.
She could not eat and drive because the movement of the car would make her feel sick.
Stomach contents thus exit more slowly into the duodenum of the digestive tract. This can result in irregular absorption of nutrients, inadequate nutrition, and poor glycemic control.
If you are a diabetic, the disease increases your chances of contracting this horrific stomach affliction.
Our suggestion?
Try and stay healthy, before you no longer are.
What surprisingly helped our friend beat the stomach disorder was going to the gym six times a week and eating Japanese radishes.
Enough of that, but hopefully you get the point.
This falls into the category that an ounce of prevention is worth a thousand pounds of cure.
Weight training and strengthening your muscles is vital but getting your cardio in is critical too.
In your ounce of prevention program, think Zumba.
Zumba is a fitness program that involves cardio and Latin-inspired dance.
It was founded by Colombian dancer and choreographer Beto Pérez in 2001, and by 2012, it called itself the largest international branded fitness program in the world.
Zumba is a trademark owned by Zumba Fitness, LLC.
Zumba choreography is composed using all or some of sixteen core steps. There are four basic rhythms: salsa, reggaeton, merengue, and cumbia; each basic rhythm has four core steps.
In one Zumba class, typically around one hour long, a participant can burn up to 600 calories, depending on the intensity.
The thinking is, Zumba is intended as a total-body cardio and aerobic workout, which provides a large calorie consumption. One 2012 study found that a participant burns 300 to 900 kcal with an hour-long Zumba exercise.
There are lots of great Zumba Instructors online. Endorsed by Zumba.
One of the factors that we used to determine who might be the best fit for you is if they invested in their own website. To us, that means they are truly committed and building a brand as opposed to just showing up to instruct people at the local gym.
One such person who impressed us is Loretta Bates.
As shared by the team at topteny.com, “A Zumba Education Specialist, Loretta Bates has been certified by ACE as a certified personal trainer and by AFAA as a group fitness instructor. She has made appearances in many fitness videos that have sold to other fitness trainers as well as to the public and has presented in more than seven nations as an International Fitness Presenter. A Certified Group Fitness Instructor, she is also capable of offering group training sessions. As CPR Certified trainer, she has appeared as a model for the cover the Zumba World Party Video Game as well as for the ZLife Magazine.”
There are so many great Zumba Instructors out there.
All over the world.
We have a visiting writer to help you with you Zumba strides.
Remember, an ounce of fitness enhancement and prevention is worth 100 pounds of cure.
Benefits of the ZUMBA Dance Fitness Program
By Charli Ashby
Zumba is the latest worldwide craze and it is no wonder that Australia has been quick to embrace this fantastic new fitness trend. Zumba is a Latin dance fitness experience suitable for anybody. As an instructor myself, people always have questions and concerns regarding the workout. I say workout, but it is often referred to as a ‘party’ meaning it is such a fun and easy hour, you won’t even know you are working out. Exercise doesn’t have to be boring anymore and with Zumba it isn’t. The music is motivating, the moves are motivating the atmosphere of the class is motivating. In this article you will find essential key points to help with your Zumba experience.
Zumba is a fantastic way to workout. It has often been called the ‘exercise in disguise’ as it is just that. People that attend Zumba classes always say it feels like they are not working out, and that is the idea behind Zumba. It takes all your favorite Latin rhythms, (merengue, bachata, cumbia, salsa, reggaeton, mambo, cha cha and other styles including belly dancing and flamenco) and simplifies these moves making it an easy to follow workout. Zumba classes include everything you need from a workout, lower body, upper body and without even getting on the floor to do sit ups, your abdominal region!
A one hour ZUMBA class allows you to burn up to 1000 calories per session on average which is fantastic in you think about the other exercise regimes you would have to partake in order to burn the equivalent amount of calories. Zumba is great for weight loss in both women and men.
Zumba improves coordination. And the proof is right in front of you after you attend 2 or 3 classes. For those of you that are regular Zumba people, remember that first class you did? And how it was a little difficult? And now, if you think about how easy the moves have become and how you can pick them up more quickly. The proof is right there, the more Zumba you do the better you become, therefore the better coordinated you will feel.
Zumba is great for your general health and fitness level. In an average Zumba class you will get a sweat on but you should not be out of breath the whole time. There will be moments during some of the routines where you heart rate is elevated and the workout harder but then there are the songs with the routines which allow you to return to normal and therefore make the workout seem easy. A lady on the radio the other day from here in Adelaide was 120kgs, and from doing Zumba 2 – 3 times per week she was down to 80kgs! Zumba is a workout that works.
Zumba is a go at your own pace workout, which everyone should be aware of. This means you do what part of the workout you can do and for those parts that are too challenging you can take it at your own level or simply march on the spot. As long as you keep moving during the class, you are doing something good for your body.
The easiest way to find out about Zumba is by taking a class. Classes are casual and there is no pressure to get the moves straight away. As an instructor I tell people that the first class is the most difficult, it’s new and it’s probably like nothing you’ve ever done before so you have the right to make mistakes. People often come to me and tell me they are uncoordinated. I watch these people during the class and it appears they are not uncoordinated at all!
The moves are repetitive so it gives everyone time to pick up the moves, then later in the routine the moves are repeated again so you have a chance to refine them. After the first class, you will find the moves become easier, your fitness levels are better and your coordination will be improve. What better way to spend an hour out of your day?
